Not Smith???

Tbh i thought t was going to be for bear, reschny or cootes. They went after a center with size like their first pick had size. I like Porter at 6 but i preferred Hagens. That said nhl draft is the biggest crapshoot of all the drafts. It’s mostly 18-19 year olds. I try to read up on the draft days leading up to the draft.

Stuff I'm reading says he was rising. We'll see.

My issue with that is the guys that have had issues skating, the flyers couldn't fix (i think Ratcliffe was one of them)

That would be the issue I have. In the new NHL if you’re gonna be big, you better know how to skate well. from the sounds of it it he’s a below average skater. I think years ago it Was easier to get away with it. Now not as much

Tyson Foerster had the skating issue when he was drafted and he seems to have worked out pretty good. Will he be an elite skater? No, but it's definitely possible a player can improve. To be fair, he's the only one that comes to mind in regards to improving.

I hope they can get him to be a respectable skater because this draft really needs to hit if they want to even think about playoffs in the next few years.

It’s too bad — the Flyers did what I was afraid they would do, only in even dumber fashion. Hagens was the pick at #6 — I don’t have a problem with Martone as a prospect, but if you take him it forces your hand to trade up for a centre because they couldn’t leave the first round without one.

Nesbitt would have been a reach at #22. He’s big but slow and his likely ceiling is a third line centre; you simply can’t force the board and panic the way Brière did. Absolutely nobody had Nesbitt as a better prospect than Reschny or Cootes. Neither had come off the board yet, so there was no reason at all to trade up that high.

Two first round picks spent on Jack Nesbitt. I really hope he becomes a star, because that pick is gonna sting 10 years from now if he doesn’t.

I don't think it was panic. The Eagles do this all the time, move up for guys they want. Difference being, lately it has worked out for them and they've won 2 championships while the flyers haven't won anything.

Porter is slowwwwww! This team already lacks speed. The only fast guys are Luchenko and Tippett.

Speed is the only thing stopping this guy from being a top line player. As of now, for today’s nhl standards, he isn’t even average speed, he is below average. So he will need to really improve his skating. At this point, he would be a major liability in 3 on 3 OT.

4 of their first 5 picks are 6’2 or taller.

Comical to see these beat writers trying to defend the Nesbitt pick by saying "Bob McKenzie had him at 17”.

He was rated 28-33 as a consensus, and McKenzie had him #23 overall in his previous rankings. There was just no reason at all to trade up if he’s the target.

Don’t even get me started on taking Carter Amico over Blake Fiddler.

For 50 years the Flyers have been trying to replicate the Broad Street Bullies in one way, shape or form. And have failed because the league is not that any more. It is open, fast and the flyers have been, and I guess will be....slow. The best, and worst, thing to ever happen to the Flyers was the Broad Street Bullies.

Outside of Martone, the draft was an abject failure. How many bottom pairing centers does a team need? To come out of this draft without a legitimate 1C or 1D prospect is mind boggling. This franchise is doomed for the next decade. Mark my words.

This is cool and all, but the flyers 10 years ago had a lot of "great drafts" and at one point had a "top 5" prospect pool. We all know how that turned out.

Hopefully Zegras can stay healthy, I love that trade. This draft was solid, IMO. If they can get one of these goalies to develop they might be a playoff team in 2 years

Tbh can’t really judge what the class is for 3-4 years. NHL and mob draft are the biggest crapshoots. Frankly think NHL is the biggest as most of the guys drafted are like 17-19 at least mlb getting more college guys now.

Mob draft? I'll take Lucky Luciano 😆

The Flyers draft was a mixed bag, at best. Like Martone as a prospect but didn’t like the pick. Hagens is what they needed for roster construction and I think he was the second best prospect in the draft, behind Misa. That trade for Nesbitt was comically bad — it’s almost the equivalent of the Giants taking Daniel Jones or the Falcons taking Penix — poor draft process, poor talent evaluation, and Brière got his lunch eaten.

I don’t care if he thought someone else was trading up for Nesbitt; It’s like going to an auction, bidding on something appraised at $300 and paying $580 because you learned someone else might pay $575 for it. It’s still a gross overpayment — Let It Go. Congratulations Brière for paying double what someone was worth.

I did like the Murtagh and Vansaghi picks. Vansaghi plays like a bull in a china shop, and Murtagh flashed in some of the Hagens film I watched.

Don’t like the Amico pick at all, either. Fiddler is the better prospect and doesn’t come with a broken kneecap, tibia, or whatever it was. Amico is big, he hits, and moves the puck decently well ….. but he’s got little offensive upside and looks very slow to read and diagnose what’s about to happen, especially when the puck gets turned over.
