Texas squandered this first half.   Only up 3 with UGA getting the kick to start the second half... they can't be happy.

I grant you Baun, but Becton is a clear #2. He’s a monster and he’s only played guard for 10 games. Haven’t you been watching what he’s doing?

I know you love OL, but if he is limited to guard, well those are easier to find and we have you other young guys that can play on the cheap

for me It comes down to whether Stout thinks he can play right tackle after Lane

I wouldn’t say Steen has looked appreciably worse; rather, Becton has looked significantly better. As in way better. Steen has physical limitations that Becton does not. Right now, the Eagles have the best set of guards in the league. It boggles my mind that some folks don’t see this. Becton’s floor is above Steen’s ceiling. He’s bigger, stronger, faster, and quicker. And meaner. It’s really not close, and Steen is a very capable player.

The danger of paying Becton is that he fails to keep his weight/conditioning in check. He is playing great right now, but I worry that he doesn't have the self control to keep avoiding donuts and doing situps when he has $50 million in his bank account.

You can count the number of guys with his size who can actually move on one hand. We have the two best of them. Why give one of them up?

If you have to replace one, I'm choosing to replace the one that is less positional value. You can replace Becton. Not with anybody, but it's not like the Eagles haven't had success finding quality OL.

If Jeanty wasn't putting up video game numbers playing basically just the 1st half in the majority of his games with an insane yards after contact, Skattebo would be the talk of the town.

Imagine if the Eagles draft him.

Skattebo and Shipley in the backfield when Barkley is done and DeJean and Blankenship in the D-backfield.

I like the Iowa kid as better value

Says we have to keep Becton whatever the cost, then immediately says we should trade the starting QB and replace them with someone who's never played a snap at NFL level to pay for it. Successful franchises don't trade their 3 year starter QB in order to pay a Right Guard.

I said we should consider it.

And we should.

If you can get, say, Jalen Milroe in the first round of the draft this year, coach him up for a year or two, then trade Hurts for a bunch of draft picks AND get cap space, yeah — that’s something we should absolutely consider and you’d be stupid not to.

Having a QB on a rookie deal is a MASSIVE advantage. We can see this year that the variance between top 20 starting QBs isn’t that great. So it’s just an opportunity cost. It’s not like Hurts is Brady, Mahomes or Montana.  We are talking about a quality starter but not a super star, not an all timer, not a top 5 guy.

With this great TE class, we need a top 100 player in this next draft, barring some trade

Did we not replace him when he was out? Guards are replacable easier than most positions. His measurables dont change that

Found an episode of Animaniacs featuring Carson Beck.

Jalen Milroe is almost as bad of a QB as Hurts and most definitely not 1st round worthy, even if we pick 32

If this were a traditional passing offense, I would say that letting Bechton walk and starting Steen at RG would be a ok.

But this isn’t a traditional offense.  The success of this team is predicated on this kind of play from our OL.  Not sure if they can afford to go from an elite road grader to a merely good starter at RG, which is in some ways the engine position for the running game.

He is a unicorn. You don't let him get away.

Which are irreplaceable for our team?  Becton and Baun, IMO.

The other two are replaceable but really nice to have.

I want to keep all 4.  I think Sweat may be the most fungible based on how Coach Vic is bringing along his edge rushers. Carter may be so disruptive that you could replace Milt but damn, I don't like that.

Milton Williams is currently a top 10 DT. Is Moro Ojomo going to give you the same? I like Ojomo but he's a lower tier DT. Milton Williams was drafted to play the role he is now. They always knew he could be disruptive. Now that he is, you don't say OK, thanks for the 4 years. You lock him up and have a DT pair that scares teams.

Mykel Williams is so f'in good.

Sark fd up by not playing Manning. Ewers has looked like sheet since he came back from his injury

I think Baun and Williams will be back. Unless Becton takes a team friendly deal, I'm not sure he's back. Then again teams might judge him by his Jets days and he doesn't get the contract everyone thinks he might get. I think Sweat is gone. Can't pay everyone

No, the level of play went down.

I was just using him as an example since most mock drafts have him being selected around our pick.

But let’s say he’s a like for like with Hurts. If you give me that as the starting point then we should absolutely draft Milroe, trade Hurts (we’ll probably get more than the 28th pick in the draft for him) and then take all that cap space and keep the rest of the team together.

The way Hurts’ contract is structured I don’t think there’s any real discussion about moving on from him until after the 2026 season.

Please Howie, go get Mykel Williams or Jalon Walker.

Need more PhillyDawgs.

Exactly.

As long as we are talking about replacement, do we think Hurts is THAT irreplaceable?

I tend to think I have a higher opinion of Hurts than most. He’s a winner, a team player, certainly has a unique dynamism with his strength and athleticism. I think his accuracy is very underrated both on short passes and long balls.

But that all said, I don’t think it would be terribly difficult to replicate his production given a year or two of planning. The difference between QBs has never been so narrow, and as you said, the team is totally built around the OL. If ever there were a situation that a QB could thrive, this is it.

Yea this version of Hurts is much more easily replaceable than the 2022 version, and it's pretty clear the 2022 version was an anomaly. Find a QB who can just be a game manager and stack the rest of the roster. I definitely agree with the premise as long as it isn't actually Jalen Monroe
