EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Well, the Eagles have a date with destiny.

They have a bad passing offense, the most dominant running game in the nfl, and a defense that might actually be elite.  The pass attack is asked to just keep it clean and ride the coat tails of Barkley.

Historically, such teams wash out early and badly in the playoffs.

We can talk about the long term implications of that (I’d argue they aren’t good)…But this is the horse we rode in on for 2024 and this team CAN beat anyone on the right day.  They also can lose to anyone if they are backed into a situation where their pass attack has to define the game.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Sort of reminds me of the Kaepernick 49ers with Gore and their defense.

We've got the idiot, overrated QB to match.

That slide sack was wild.

Reminds me of the Giants game…

the defense may have been a blip but hurts missing open receivers is not

And that’s the thing… The Hurts issue is a far greater concern than the defense. The defense struggled but still ultimately only allowed 16 points. It was ugly ugly ugly on defense but they did get the job done. But Hurts is limiting this offense every week.

And the board is slow as shut today for some reason

Was such a dumb sack to take

Long term…you can’t have $430m invested in QB1\WR1\WR2 just to have an offense that throws for less than 200 yards per game.

If you want to be a run the ball dominantly and elite D team that actually competes for a SB, then you can’t ever afford to let the Williams or Bechtons of the world walk when you hit it big with them.  That money needs to get shaved off the pass attack you aren’t even using.  And if all QBs need that $250m deal, then you don’t need a pair of elite WRs for you qb to not use.

Gotta love the double standard when it's the Eagles being talked about by the fans of other teams.  Lions barely squeak by a bad Bears team and they are the best in the NFL according to everyone, Eagles do the same against the Panthers and everyone already calling them 1 and done frauds

Meh…it must be a Philly thing.  Looks like we played Carolina better than the last five teams they played from a point differential perspective.

We want the Giants to win, correct?

Giants might win this, at very least should sent it to OT barring turnover or missed FG

Their tackling was. Also the run defense was poor, and there were too many WRs wide open for big plays. They got extremely lucky that the game winning TD was dropped.

Hurts was extremely gun shy, but aside from that he had an ok game.

Hurts was beyond terrible and if you can't admit that I've got nothing for you.

LOL Giants

I’m just gonna keep betting hurts under 200 yards passing until he does it. That way i make money off of it. The odds have been + each of the last 3 weeks and it’s hit

There was still almost a min left at that point and we had all 3 of our timeouts, I think. Not a forgone conclusion that we still would've lost even if he came down with it for a TD there. Plenty of time to get in range and kick a FG for a chance to win it.

Was 44-45 seconds

lol...Giants

Yep.  Carolina has actually been playing teams really tough over their last several games.  I was going to post that in the beginning of the game but never got to it

Meh. Draft sucks and losing in embarrassing fashion is funner.

A few observations...

 - Hurts' decision making is really scary at times.  Too many to list here.  Still not confident we win a game in the 30s.

 - A lot of random went Carolina's way.  Our defense is designed to make the opponent move slowly down the field.  Carolina seemed to make every play they needed out of structure.

 - We are missing an edge rusher like we had with Reddick that can take over in the fourth quarter.

Reddick wouldn’t have made a difference today

The dumbest part was pulling the ball from Barkley.  Taking the sack, versus throwing it away at least kept the clock moving.   But, if it hands it off to Barkley, they might lose a yard, or might gain 2... and the clock rolls on and they are in a decent position for 2nd down.

So stupid.  Why not just throw it away?

A high school QB would know that.

I think he had the pass to AJ the next play to bail out that set of downs - but the inconsistency of this passing attack is hard to watch.

What’s happened to our 40 yard go routes to AJ, that made this palatable?
