Here's another example of a game we would have a weird rooting interest in. *IF* we beat Washington this week and Dallas the following Sunday, we would definitely be rooting for Washington to beat Atlanta in that Sunday Night game. That would be a three game swing (two for us for beat Washington twice vs one for the Vikings for beating Atlanta) in the strength of victory battle.

But of course if we lose this coming Sunday, all that talk of 15-2 tiebreaks are irrelevant. Our only real focus at that point would be securing the division and the number two seed.

So what do the sheet tinklers of TATE have to complain about this week?

Didn't win by enough?

The offense is hogging the ball and not letting the defense get any stats.  Jalen is basically a touchdown and a sack vulture for the team.  It's a bad lockerroom.

I wouldn't move Shanahan, so I agree there. But there is no way I'd give Purdy $60mm/year. To me, it would be a worse decision than giving Prescott that contract. Dak had a team with NINE (8 other than him) all-pros in 2023 and got bounced in round 1. He had 3 all-pro OL (Tyron Smith, Tyler Smith and Martin), and all-pro WR, an all-pro edge rusher, an all-pro CB and all-pro K and P. If he can't get it done with that roster, no way he can do it with lesser talent.

Purdy couldn't get it done with a team that had a 1st team all-pro LT, RB, FB, TE and LB and a 2nd team all-pro WR, and CB. So 5 1st team all-pros, 2 2nd team, and we still aren't talking about Bosa, Hargrave, Deebo, etc. All that, and he got you just as far as...Jimmy G.

People in the media like to say Jalen was carried to the SB in 2022 - he had 2 first team all-pros (Kelce and Lane) and 3 second team all-pros other than himself (AJ, Reddick and Bradberry).

If this season has taught me anything, it’s that QBs are EXTREMELY overpaid.

There is exactly one player in the NFL right now who can justify $60M per year, and that’s Josh Allen. He can actually put an entire team on his back and with minimal help make you a Super Bowl contender.

There are maybe two other guys who can justify $50+ million, Mahomes and Jackson… and I’m not sold on Jackson despite the numbers, while in Mahomes’ case it’s more based on previous performance than this year.

Some GM is eventually going to take the leap on saying no to the huge QB payday the way teams have moved away from RBs.

The first adopters of this policy will simply trade the QB for a bunch of draft picks, which some other team will happily accept. You then build a monster roster like the Lions or Eagles, and throw together mid tier starters, reclamation projects and draft picks at the QB and cycle through them.

The average level of QB play has never been higher. Guys are coming off the scrap heap and looking like solid starters. Rookies come in and impress. And at the same time, there are very few "star” QBs who can carry a team.

Unless I have Josh Allen or Pat Mahomes, give me a QB by committee system with a juggernaut roster everywhere else. The NFL moves in cycles and it sure seems like ball control and defense is a competitive advantage.

Yup.  #4 is going to approach $30M / year average.  Fitting that in along with Hurts, Brown, Smith, the OL, etc. will be interesting to see.

He's not even eligible until the 2026 offseason. Eagles will exercise his 5th year option and then extend him off that, similar to what they did with Devonta Smith. His cap hits won't be that bad until like 2029. Carter will be more than Smith, but just as a comparison Smiths extension at $25M per has cap hits less than $13M until 2028.

That's a long time away. 2029 Lane will be gone. AJ Brown could be gone. Smith should be here but he's a free agent in 2028.

I really want to see what Wentz can do in an Andy Reid offense so hope they let Mahomes rest that ankle on Saturday. They have a couple game buffer on that top seed so it would be smart.

If Wentz beats Hurts in the Super Bowl this board will throttle global internet bandwidth for a month.

I said it in another thread, but I can’t believe that the offense had the ball for over 10 minutes late in the 4th quarter and they didn’t come away with any points!  Just pathetic! 🤣

Isn't he eligible after his third season (2025)?

#4 would be 3 years from now, though, wouldn’t it?

2 years left on his base rookie deal + the option year.

Yes which would be the 2026 offseason. It's after he completes three years.

Edit: for clarity when I say 2026 offseason I mean the months before the 2026 season. Not the offseason after 2026 season.

I think he eclipses 30m$. Aaron Donald got 31m$ AAV 3 years ago

I'd expect they will want to get ahead on this one. Waiting likely just makes the price tag go up every year. Plus when they extend him off his rookie deal and 5th year it lets them absorb a larger signing bonus than if they waited.

Thank Fing christ this dude is gone for good now. Didn't want Howie to be tempted to waste a roster spot on him in the future.

We will have to trade for him again this offseason.

It's pretty crazy when you think about how this down year for Mahomes actually makes him look better overall

Down year and he's 9th in passing TDs

10th in passing yds

Still above 90 rating

I'd disagree with the highlighted though. Too many teams want the first round QB to perform right away and throw him to the wolves. Very few actually make it

This right here is why football is the only sport I enjoy watching more than playing. It would drive me nuts to only play approximately half of the game every game.

The idea that Head Coach Andy Reid has full confidence in his quarterback Carson Wentz is so surreal it’s making me dizzy. What bizarro world is this

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43026174/chiefs-reid-full-confidence-wentz-mahomes-play

1.  What else is he gonna say?  "our backup is a scrub so we're praying Patrick can play."

2.  Reid schemes guys open better than any other offensive mind in the NFL; probably only McVay, Shanahan and O'Connell are close.  Wentz did a good job in Indy reuniting with Frank; Andy Reid is like Frank on steroids (or donuts)

Pretty much every extension Howie does is structured with minimum salaries and annual option bonuses that can be amortized. We very rarely have anyone we can restructure to create space.

Except for the annual Lane Johnson shuffle.
