Then again Nick didn’t hire Patullo as OC when he came in originally and didn’t hire him instead of Brian Johnson and didn’t hire him this year. Now circumstance definitely made BJ the natural choice when Steichen and then made an internal choice unlikely when he got fired. But still never seemed like a consideration before

That’s part of my questioning. Nick wasn’t an exactly slam dunk HC hire. He likely had to build a staff that had some OC experience which Steichen did while Patullo bounced around with some assistant jobs at the time. I agree with Johnson, everything made him the likely successor. Moore I don’t see being a Sirianni suggestion or hiring at all. That’s why I think now that he has some weight he’s going to make a pull for his guy all along.

It makes so much sense for them to bring back Slay, especially if he's willing to take a team friendly deal.  This past season,  he's played at among the highest level I've seen him play since he's come here.  Q gets most of the attention but people seem to forget, Slay was shutting everyone down on the other side as well.  I think he led the league in pass break up % (or a similar stat).

If you have a guy like that who wants to come back for one more year (doesn't want to move his family out of town, etc) then you need to figure out a way to bring him back.

This also would give the Eagles a huge luxury in seeing what they have in RIngo and Ricks (possibly Rodgers).  If one of them develops, shows enough this season - it could save them a future draft pick.  Having Slay here allows them that luxury.

And Slay has been mentoring the younger players.  You can see it in the video clips.

Definitely true about SB

As spectacular as the roster was up and down on both offense and defense, Saquon was the biggest game changer, franchise impacting factor this year. The success he had opened things up for others. The attitude and confidence he played with spawned that expectation in every other player. I think it even motivated and helped the defense early in the year and once they got going BEHIND the tone he set for the team, they just went off and became something of their own.

Good football, the attitude, the expectation to win and succeed is infectious, he infected the whole team. I honestly believe that. Like I said to start this post, great roster, but he was the X factor.

Edit: Saquon should have been the league MVP this year imo. Best rb performance in a very very long time.

I agree. I think Josh McCown is a dark horse because he’s well thought of and he’s a climber and even though he said he wouldn’t leave Min except for a HC gig the Eagles OC job is a clear stepping stone to a HC gig when Minn could go backwards.

My prediction would be Patullo gets OC job and a minority candidate gets QB coach with a Sr Assistant brought in as well.  I’m not insinuating minority candidate is not qualified just saying I think Eagles FO will want that to happen if Sirriani gets his guy at OC

I would like the blog's best nerd historians to come up with a draft class for any team in NFL history, ignoring the rest of their careers, that did more in their rookie season.

1981 Niners

For the 49ers in 1981 Bill Walsh had an offense was ready to go with Joe Montana, Dwight Clark and Freddie Solomon in place, but the defensive secondary was a disaster.

The solution?  Use three of his first four picks on Ronnie Lott, Eric Wright and Carlton Williamson.  Problem solved.

@Iggles_Phan several months ago you asked what NIL opportunities Eagles players might garner.  The graphic above shows one.

But outside of the Super Bowl and NFCCG, which I know are two huge games to exclude, I don’t think the passing game in the regular season was THAT much better than what we saw last year. The main difference being that Hurts was smarter with the ball and limited the dumb turnovers. They have a true identity now with Saquon, the offensive line, and Hurts playing smart football. That’s really the system and whoever is the next OC will run something similar to what we saw this year.

A lot of complaints about Hurts this year comes down to watching him climb a learning curve, with a running game and defense, it was less important for him to make big plays with his arm and more important to avoid turnovers. So he had to learn not to try to force things, which is a habit from college where in big games he had to carry his team, and even last year when the defense imploded. Part of this was also Moore learning to give him quick throws and outlet targets instead of going for the big play and leaving Hurts on an island.

Still, if you go back and watch those games, Hurts made the big throw or scramble on a consistent basis, when he had to hit Brown down the sideline or on a slant or an in route, or Goddert or if they were covered pull the ball down and get 8 yards when they needed 7. And in some ways, that's harder than throwing for 300+ yards when you're behind and you can take chances with limited consequences (you're losing anyway). Because there was a smaller margin for error, especially in the second half of games. With a lead and that defense, ball control (extending drives) and avoiding turnovers was more important than "big plays."

There are better "big number" QBs out there, but how many could be trusted not to screw up week after week?

I have to re-upload to rumble.  YouTube permanently banned my channel because they said the videos broke their harrassment and cyberbullying policy.

There is a message there.

Having rewatched LII and LIX so close together and it can’t be understated how massive the upgrade was from Al Michaels to Kevin Burkhardt. The sound mixing of the crowd from both games is a stark contrast too.

I’m with you on Sweat and Williams, but my concern with letting Becton go is that it leaves us with no succession plan at RT.

That may very well be true regarding RT, but my question would be whether that is critical in the "right now". If you truly believe Johnson will play through, say, the '26 season, why wouldn't that be something that could be worried about next offseason rather than this one?

I agree with your post but I think Barkley's workload next year won't be like this year.  I can see him, assuming he stays relatively healthy, getting 1,300 to 1,500 yards and less carries.  Wouldn't surprise me if they pass a little bit more but the emphasis will be on not turning it over like this year which Hurts did a great job of that after the bye.

He should get a TON of throws.  That is a little easier on him and still gives excellent production.

I just wanted to shout out Devonta.  He has made so many unbelievable, wild, circus type toe tapping catches for us.  That Super Bowl catch was something we've seen him do for years.   He never complains, he always does his job when called on.   He only really made one mistake this year and that was the missed catch from Washington.  He lead in reception yards in both Super Bowls and got a great TD in this one.  That video of Jalen telling him how much he appreciated him was exactly how I felt about what he brings to the team.

Best plays of the year

1) Carter's sack of Stafford on 3rd down
2) Saquon 2nd TD run vs. Rams in the snow
3) Cooper DeJean pick 6
4) Goedert TD vs. Packers
5) Cooper DeJean's hit on Derrick Henry
6) Nakobe Dean INT vs. Jacksonville
7) Goedert long run vs. Saints
8 ) Hurts to AJ bomb on 4th and 5
9) Grant Calcaterra bomb vs. Dallas
10) CJGJ's 4th down tackle vs. Atlanta

Honorable mention: Kelee Ringo's blocked FG for a 2pt conversion. Will not be remembered, but an incredible play.

The bomb to Devonta to put the dagger in the Chefs heart needs to be on there.

Loved him. But it still rubbed me the wrong way that he bolted the Flyers to coach the Rangers instead.

If you don't sign them.... or can't.. they are a need.  DT is a minor need.  Ojomo steps in, but the depth is now much weaker with Williams walking.  It's a need.

I agree with your "if” but so far that "if” is only a possibility not a completed event.  Finished this sentence by filling in the blank, "If you do sign them they ______ a need.”

6 hours ago, Iggles_Phan said:

You could almost call it a "need".

I would indeed call it a need IF Becton is allowed to walk.
