Overall I think the philosophy of letting young players play is a welcome change.  Was born of necessity a bit but I think they learned it can work.  Of course it won't always work

this CJGJ trade just doesn't make sense on the surface.  why are we trading our defense for an offensive guard when we have steen and Keegan.  I'd have preferred a higher pick in this draft or another area of the defense.  I guess we'll find out what there plan is.

My opinion is they got a 5th for CJGJ and gave a 6th for Green.  I'm sure some would have preferred to keep the 6th but in any case I don't believe a 4th for CJGJ was ever on the table as a solo deal

I get the CJ thing but I’m still not over it, Guy gave us his heart and soul.

Who was the best Eagles defensive player on that field 2 years ago? CJ to anyone who is honest.

Howie traded him so the collective has put it in their minds that he was never any good and he was a lock room problem

Not crazy about the CJGJ trade but I know little of the guard we got in return and maybe this means DeJean moves to S permanently, which is where I think he'll be at his best. We saw a big drop off with him gone two years ago, but we should be better positioned to rebound this time around. Hopefully.

If nothing else, the last couple days should be a sobering reminder for the "salary cap isn't real" crowd.

Where he ranked in importance on our defense doesn't make what I said any less true

It kind of does…in Big Dom we trust.  Replacing the culture fit is easier than talent, for sure though.  At the end of the day he’s immature and volatile. ‘Fiery’ ‘plays with emotion’ etc…all of that is ridiculous.  Look at BG, he’s one of the biggest ish talkers in the league and plays every snap like it’s his last but he’s able to control his emotions through the whistle.  I just don’t think it’s that big of a loss in the grand scheme of things.  It’s a hole, but keeping the cast together after a SB has proven very tough over the history of the NFL since the salary cap was instituted.

I wouldn’t look at it that way.  He was very good for the Eagles.  I was not expecting him to be traded away, and I’m still struggling with it.  But I do think that Howie has at least earned some benefit of the doubt.  I’ll just wait and judge the offseason as a whole…there’s a long way to go

That’s my biggest concern.  I don’t think he’s actually a great player, but he’s insane on and off the field.  I think people are underestimating his heart  and intensity as a football player and what it brought to our defense this season.  It would be one thing if this yielded any return, but this trade looks like crap on the surface.

This x1000.  And if it’s proven wrong there will be no discussing it any further!!

He was the 11th or 12th best player on D for most of the year.  If a bad play happened most of the time it was a blown coverage by him or Dean missing a tackle.  Let’s not pretend he’s an all pro…he was streaky.  When he was good, he was good.  When he was bad, he was very bad.  Once Dean figured out how to tackle, he was clearly the weakest link (relative given how good overall they were as a total unit)

CJGJ was the 12th best player on defense? lolwut

I think Baun is the leader now. Maybe Reed if they sign him to an extension. Nolan Smith seems like the leader on the DL.

the problem last time is we didn’t replace CJGJ with anyone even decent and of course the DC stunk that year too

That's what Howie wants you to believe... this keeps his cover secure.

I guess I just don’t know who this ‘collective’ is.  I’ve seen various opinions on the trade here, and most of them just seem curious about it more than anything.  I’m sure some have already justified it. I’m not there yet, but I don’t see that opinion being a consensus.
