Hopkins 1 year $6m I like that - would’ve been nice in Philly with Smitty going to slot  here and there.

Time for Sydney Brown to step up into stardom in his 3rd year just like Nakobe Dean did.  Farewell to CJ, two years, two Super Bowls.  A great Eagle and I'll root for him.

Meanwhile we got our Mekhi Becton replacement in Kenyon Green.  Another talented underachiever for Stoutland to mold.  I assume he will compete with Steen for the starting job.

CJGJ was the 12th best player on defense? lolwut

We can argue against where he sits with Sweat most of the year, Dean at times when he wasn’t able to tackle, Blankenship being consistently solid but not flashy.  I guess Davis if you want to consider him a starter.

We had 2 DROTY candidates, a DPOTY candidate, Smith as a break out performance, Carter was just Carter, Slay was 29 yo slay again, Milton was a force all year, etc with the rest of the starters.  He was a net ‘good’ player.  Had some iconic plays (big 4th down stops)…but blew some coverages, robbed Q of how many INT’s?  The Defense as a whole was amazing and you can’t keep everyone.

I do not think the replacement is on the roster though right now unless there is something we don’t know.  The S position is no longer SS and FS, but I think moving Coop to ‘FS’ is a misuse of his abilities.

The question I have is if we’re only saving $250k in cap money this season - why not trade him next season if the reason we’re trading him is to have $$ to sign the "younger guys” starting next season?

We also save $6.2 million in cash this season.  That's the important part of the trade for this season. Though I'm not a fan of the trade.  I like CJGJ, but his future cap hit in 2026 is going to be put to good use.

Cam will get an extension soon

I think Cam and Reed but I do think they’ll try to get Reed at a reasonable starter number and Cam below the very top tier

Likely.  Or Blankenship.

As an aside, can the Eagles chill with the propaganda and rhetoric a bit?

"I'm told this move was made to keep the core in tact."

You just traded a member of your core away. Just say we couldn't afford to give him a new deal, it's cool to be 100 about it.

I don’t believe CJGJ has ever been part of the core.

It's now Lurie has cash flow issues

Not sure how.  The franchise is worth in excess of $8.3 Billion.  He purchased it for $185 million.  That’s over a $8.1 Billion profit.

And that’s just what it’s currently worth - nothing to do with how much the Eagles take in from ticket sales, television revenue and merchandising.  (Reportedly around $290 million annually)

He also just cashed out roughly $700 million when selling an 8% minority in the franchise.

And with a guy like Howie Roseman handling most of the player contracts, $$ etc I highly doubt "cash flow” has anything to do with anything.

I seem to remember a game against Washington where things changed dramatically after he was ejected.  Lost us the game.

You think it's coincidence CJ helped them get to the SB, Lions have a good D and almost make a SB, then helps the Eagles win one? He is the leader and guy with fire every good defense  needs. Howie didn't learn the first time and now Slay looks to be gone and BG is as well. Lot of leadership and experience you can't replace with youth.

CJGJ isn’t a leader.  He is a maverick that constantly has to be reined in. The leaders in the secondary were Reed and Slay.  Reed was leading the communication.  You could see it watching the All22.  Reed will be in his fourth year. Baun is probably the leading vet on the D this year in his sixth year. The whole vet presence is kind of lost on me. Through most of the amateur playing days, the oldest players are rarely more than a few years older than the youngest.  I would argue that last year one of the leaders on the OL was Dickerson, in year four.

So then why do they care about savings cash on CJGJ? Is it that he’s truly a locker room issue?

It’s not flow, it’s just cash spending

Again the cash stuff is dumb. The ‘cash’ saving is really cap saving next year.

Lucky cousin though!

for the 25 mil I mean. 👀

On the bright side...

Next offseason, you've got Cam, Blankenship, and Jordan Davis.  Davis is easy to keep on an option if they want (or re-sign).  And if that's a thing they want to pursue, it means Davis made them not miss Williams.  Cam is 100% getting extended.  And Blanksenship will not be expensive.

So next year, we've got slightly below average cap space and very little to worry about on the retention front.  Whatever doesn't work out from the changing of the guard to Ringo, Brown, Davis, Steen/Green, Hunt...they can add an impact veteran next year.

It was the most ridiculous ejection I’ve ever seen in the NFL. The guy chirps. A lot.  He was targeted before that game even started.
