Next offseason, you've got Cam, Blankenship, and Jordan Davis.  Davis is easy to keep on an option if they want (or re-sign).  And if that's a thing they want to pursue, it means Davis made then not miss Williams.  Cam is 100% getting extended.  And Blanksenship will not be expensive.

So next year, we've got slightly below average cap space and very little to worry about on the retention front.  Whatever doesn't work out from the changing of the guard to Ringo, Brown, Davis, Steen/Green, Hunt...they can add an impact veteran next year.

You're a year off man.  Players are eligible after 3 years and the good ones push for deals then.  So Cam & Reed are looking for deals now most likely and Carter & Nolan Smith could be looking for deals next year.  That's why there is so much urgency with the cap right now

Cam will get an extension soon

Suspect they will wait a bit to see how the back surgery went. Back surgery is a bit hit or miss for anyone but especially tricky for OL.

Given that Green is on the final year of his deal in 2026, if Stout works his magic and turns Green into the player scouts hoped he'd be going into the draft, then he'll most certainly be traded a year from now(or just be a free agent if his player option is declined), because just like with Becton, the Eagles won't be able to afford paying 5 linemen that kinda coin.

Unfortunately, we may have a revolving door at that position for a while. Unless they draft someone there, which would certainly help. Which makes me think OG at 32 while not most likely, is more likely than Safety IMO. It would be nice to get a rookie contract stud in that OL to balance out the cost.

And our depth will basically be this year’s draft class/undrafted free agent signings.

We basically need to luck out (in terms of injuries) like we did this year; in order to make a serious run.  And/Or luck out that we hit on most picks and find some diamonds in the rough in UDFA.

That’s a lot of "ifs”.

I get that Howie wasn’t planning on "running it back” like he did after the 2017 season but going the complete opposite direction seems almost too extreme, imo - especially when we truly do have (from top to bottom) a "win now” roster.  (Or did up until a week ago).

So that at least tells us they were making an attempt to sign someone else and have some type of plan (concepts of a plan?)

Eagles are "interested” in just about every player transaction (and I suspect that sometimes Howie allows agents to use that to up the bidding for their client).

Why not just keep CJ if we’re going to replace him with another similar cost FA? This all makes little sense unless there’s more to come about a souring relationship, holdout, etc

Which doesn’t sound like a cap issue with CJGJ rather a player. Or maybe they thought Reid was better than Reed for a contract

Pursuing Reid at that price doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me for the Eagles.

Good bye Kenny G. Solid complimentary back.

Thanks for everything, Kenny G!

This offseason purge seems to be the direct casualty of drafting incredibly for the last 4 years. Sweat and Williams were to be expected.  I still can’t believe Williams got that much.

Not re-signing one of Slay or Rodgers, and the CJGJ trade are both driving me nuts.  However, I didn’t see the cap benefit of trading CJGJ until someone pointed it out earlier.  I still don’t like it.  I think he provided an intangible to this defense that can’t be replaced.

We can all pretend to be excited about the potential of their replacements, but we just lost 6 solid contributors on the best and youngest defense in the league.  I’d expect big setbacks to start the season, but I do have faith in Fangio to figure it out.

Reality is Eagles probably didn’t offer that price

Gainwell the starter? Najee signed with the Chargers. Is there going to be a bidding war with DK to get 14?

Its funny, we hear that the eagles were in on safeties a lot, for a bunch of years recently, but never land one.

I dont think its true. Generally the eagles get their guys. Of course they miss out once in a great while. But its too coincidental that its always safety that they are batting .000 at for pretty much 3 or 4 years in a row always being in, and losing out on the top ones.

Thank god. Appreciate the occasional good play but really hate sticking with very mediocre backup backs. Should be easy to upgrade.

I seem to remember a game against Washington where things changed dramatically after he was ejected.  Lost us the game.

We have Brown. Of course Brown can't tackle and can't stay healthy, but we have him!

He wasnt very good.

I really think Marcus Epps could be an inexpensive complimentary safety to Blankenship.

It’s not that I don’t like him.  I could be wrong, but I just don’t see him as a load type of back that can handle the amount of touches needed when Barkley gets dinged for some games (yes, I said ‘when’…Eagles were lucky last year).  There’s nothing wrong with keeping Barkley fresher for playoff time.

Yep.  Creates a win-win.  The player gets life changing/generational guaranteed wealth in exchange for signing early - prior to hitting free agency (costing the team more) a few years later.  Win - win.
