Because Green was the worst rated NFL guard before being put on IR last season.

He has physical talent but no technique. If he has a chance anywhere it’s here.

The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

Good to know.  Hopefully Stout works  his magic once again.

So two days into legal tampering and the Eagles now have to replace four starters on defense.

Edge - Sweat (Hunt)

DT - Williams (Ojomo)

CB - Slay (Ringo, Ricks)

S - CJGJ (Brown, McCollum

The funny thing for me is, I think Williams and Sweat are the two best players they lost, but the two I'm most confident in them replacing. I like both Hunt and Ojomo, this just happens to be the best draft for Edge and DT in years, and I think they are enough veteran options that they can add a guy or two to cheap one year deals.

The secondary on the other hand has me majorly concerned. I already didn't like the depth at S and now they have to replace CJGJ. I love watching Brown on special teams but defensively he has been a nightmare so far. Dude plays fast to the point of being reckless and constantly out of position. McCollum just isn't very good. Safety is easily my biggest concern moving forward. As far as CB, I like Ringo but it's a big leap to expect him to step in and be a high level starter and even IF that works out the depth at outside corner is currently a big concern.

I was with Howie until this afternoon, but the CJGJ trade is just stupid and pointless unless they are able to sign a similar players and it somehow positively impacts the cap. Unfortunately after Simmons and Blackmon the free agent market at S is awfully thin. Epps is really the only other guy who I would have some interest in and he is coming off of a torn ACL.

Gainwell just left for the Steelers

It would've been funny though if the Eagles signed Reid.

CJGJ: "I talked with Howie it was a great convo, we're cool. Their money has to go to the young guys, they couldn't afford to keep me."

5 hour later

"Eagles sign Justin Reid to 3 years 30 million"

CJGJ: Wtf

I think it’s at least promising that the Eagles made an effort on Reid. It shows they aren’t destitute with cash spending at the moment.

Have to assume he wanted to play back home, otherwise why pick that crap team

Been thinking about next year's opponents outside our division.

As of now, I see Detroit and LAR as the closest competition.  We fortunately get them at home, an advantage for playoff seeding and tie-breakers.

The game at the Chargers will be like a home game.  Our toughest games, at KC and Buffalo, are fortunately AFC opponents.  Further, Buffalo is non-common with Det and LAR.

The tricky ones are road games against, Tampa Bay, Green Bay, and Minnesota.

I really don’t get the griping over cash spending/cap or whatever you want to call it. The Eagles are the Yankees/Dodgers of the NFL and spend more cash than any franchise. They still have limits just like any other team/franchise/business. Enjoy it for what it is unless you want to go back to letting Reggie White walk over money days.

And besides any cash spent / saved has to hit the cap eventually, even if there is a mistmatch between which year that happens.

Re. CGJ trae, even though the move is cap neutral for this year, it does save future cap dollars which will be the view they have taken.

Damn Howie, spend some money brah.

Dude is out here going full Mike Brown.

It’s clear as day what they’re doing and the reason Howie warned fans to be "patient”.

They need to clear as much future cap space as possible in order to extend:

Jalen Carter (Likely 40+ mil per year)

Nolan Smith (Likely 20+ mil per year)

(Davis/Dean soon as well)

And then in 2 years:

DeJean

And expect Blankenship to be extended before the end of this season.

So just like Howie said - they will need younger guys to step up this year and next year.   Clear as day.

Fwiw trades also don't factor into comp picks. Not that someone like Green would have cost much but with those high picks from Williams/Sweat we may see more trades in lieu of signings than we're used to.

That is the short term perspective on Green.  A bit longer perspective is that if Stoutland is able to achieve a Becton-like turnaround with Green then he becomes an asset that may (1) result in a comp pick in a future year, (2) be functional depth on the O-Line while here, (3) be a tradeable asset in Howie’s arsenal, and/or (4) make Steen a tradeable asset in Howie’s arsenal.  That is definitely an if though.  Time will tell.

Like Fred Johnson did, I expect if the experiment reaches the end of preseason with the needle pointing up, green will sign a short term extension at a very reasonable backup cost.

There’s this thing called a salary cap. We can’t pay everyone. This ain’t the nba or MLB

Meh. They have a lot of young guys they want to evaluate and will probably also address this in the draft. Plenty of depth veterans left out there too.

He spent on Barkley & Baun.

Saving for Carter, Jurgens, etc

Simmons may be a possibility. Chase Young? I think Fred resigns too.

DT - Dremont Jones, Javon Hargrave, Calais Campbell

S - Justin Simmons, Julian Blackmon
