The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

When you think about an older player objectively, he could end up with an Eagles career similar to Milton Williams. Would that be bad?

2 things.

1 - are they playing well at the college level because they have the natural advantage of being older/stronger?

2 - what round are we drafting that player? Day 3, absolutely not. That would be good return. Day 2, probably is bad. 4 cheap years is great, but you need to keep some of these guys around as part of a nucleus. Day 1, absolutely bad. First rounders are where you build for the long term.

They had to let Williams walk for a variety of reasons, but losing talent is never a good thing. Williams was grossly overpaid, so they had to do it even though he's young, but ideally, you keep the draft picks you hit on. Losing talent usually hurts teams a great deal, because you now have a hole you need to fill that didn't exist previously. And drafting, contrary to recent Eagles history, is really hard.

It's a countdown of the number of hours to the start of the draft, using Eagles' players jersey numbers to mark the number. lol. So, it is a draft update... and he's been doing it for years. Similarly, we had other countdowns like that where we mark the days to the start of the season with pictures of players from the past.

Must of been hanging in the WU on the Boobs thread during that...my bad!

RG is a pretty big need and considering they brought in a bunch of guards and/or tackles who supposedly could play inside I think it's a decent possibility at 32, and almost definitely going to be addressed no later than round 3. Donovan Jackson, Josh Conerly Jr., Marcus Mbow, Anthony Belton, and Charles Grant all fit that mold and were in for top 30 visits.

Part of my thinking is BPA in the draft and the teams BPA rankings. As has been discussed, it allows contract staggering, etc to take place. Will it happen? Maybe a 20% chance at the very best, but it could happen, so don't be surprised if the team pivots from our assumptions of OG, DT and DE.

I do think OG makes a lot of sense for the highest pick, with the work the team have done on them and the philosophy of going high on OL picks. But with the amount of visits, you can say they are spreading the risk and perhaps aren't locked on 1 or 2 candidates.

Works for me, haven’t seen this before…

Brian Westbrook.

If anyone has been around the blog for a while it was blatantly obvious what Franklin was doing. He always counts down to the draft.

Luckily it did not negatively affect my days.

I actually like the mid and late round value at CB more than the top of the draft. Guys like Nohl Williams, Jordan Hancock, Korie Black, Zach Frazier, Caleb Ransaw and Jason Marshall all have starter level physical gifts and skills. They’re not finished products, but give them a year or two to develop while playing special teams and I like their upside. Nice selection of nickel/versatility and pure boundary profiles too.

Add Cobee Bryant to your list. Given the number of picks we have, Howie selecting two from that list would be a pleasant development

Yeah, I think Howie is going to be even more busy than normal with the trades this year.

I agree. Those 5th Round picks are good ammunition to both trade up and also split into two in a trade down like 2024’s No. 171 to Jets for No. 185 and No. 190

@FranklinFldEBUpper please continue with your countdown to the Draft with player numbers. @NYEagle’s compliant is flat out annoying.

There is no question that those two have changed the competitive landscape of NCAA football, but how have they changed the Draft?

Schrager has Nolen at 11. He thinks he goes before Mason Graham. Has the Eagles taking Hairston which isn't going to happen.

My guess... 1) The NIL keeps some players in college longer, which is an issue because 2) they aren't being trained very well for the pro game as the college schemes have become less complex and tailored for a fluid labor market.

If he had framed it as a trade up in the 2nd using a 2026 pick - I would have been cool with that too.

Draft update:

The draft is in one day.

Carry on
