Will fess up. I liked Watts slightly over Mukuba pre-draft. Had Watts S3 and Mukuba S4. It was close.

Gladly look forward to being proven wrong on that. The analysis being posted here on Mukuba has me stoked for his potential. A younger, quicker, and more disciplined version of CJGJ on this defense or even a Brian Branch type player will make that secondary downright filthy.

Was apparent from their reactions that he was the guy after Campbell that they were surprised to see available at the draft slot.

Speaking of getting out of the way, I apparently can’t help but be a contrarian. I watched two in-flight movies on the way home over the weekend — both were Marvel films (which I’m not a big fan of) — Logan and Kraven the Hunter.

I watched Kraven first and Logan some time later. Even though Logan had Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, I thought the movie itself was lousy. The "nefarious government program” plot line is so tired and worn out, and I didn’t get into the children angle one bit. They also should have given both main characters a much better send off than they got. Even Patrick Stewart couldn’t do anything with the terrible script he was handed. The story arc where that family got completely wiped out was comedically terrible writing.

Kraven was also very badly written, but the characters were at least a bit entertaining. I liked the Rhino character and, even though Russell Crowe wasn’t very believable as a Russian, he’s still Russell Crowe and brought something to the part. Never heard of the guy who played The Hunter but thought he was pretty decent. The special effects were bad enough to be comical, which should be the point of a comic book-inspired movie.

When I checked out the critical reception later on, of course most viewers hated Kraven and loved Logan. I guess I’m far away from the typical movie goer.

I haven’t seen Logan in a while but at the time I liked it because it wasn’t just your typical superhero/X-men movie and tried to make it something different compared to the rest.

I haven’t watched Kraven yet but I like the lead (Aaron Taylor Johnson). He’s been in quite a few movies like kick ass, Godzilla, Nosferatu, Savages, Nocturnal Animals and will be in 28 years later. He has some decent range for his roles.

If he's even close to the caliber of player Branch is, we might be even better on defense than last season.

The Rover was a strong safety/LB hybrid. Dejean is a slot CB... that's why he was manned up on the likes of Chase this past year... and won that matchup. Teams scheme up using a guy like Chase in the role we saw on that 4th down stop against the Bengals because if he's lined up against a LB or SS, they generally can't keep up with the pre-snap motion and get caught in the wash. DeJean mirrored his motion perfectly and was clear of the traffic in order to make the play. He's not a 'Rover' by any means. He a CB who tackles like a safety. But in terms of his ability... he's all CB.

Or, as the song would go, "Cooper DeJean is not a safety. He's a CB that will lock up your number 1... DeJean is CB1." Here he doesn't have to be CB1, and so he can be used in a more unique role in the slot as the NCB, but has the ability to tackle like a LB. But he's 100% CB. Ultimately, he's a unicorn, and putting him on the field was really the special sauce that made the Eagles' D work the way it did.

Fair enough.

For me, Rover wasn’t anywhere as specific as your description … it was a description of how the player operated … a hybrid defensive role used in various defensive schemes. The rover player is expected to be versatile, able to cover receivers, rush the passer, and also stop the run. He roved all over the field not covered by the Front Four, the Boundary CBs, and the Deep Safety. That is how DeJean operates. However, your argument that he is CB3 rather than Safety3 or LB3, or some blended and ever changeable combination of all three is compelling.

Did Sanders play the NFL by not hiring an agent. I wonder if that left an option to reject where he was picked and go back to college for a year?

Given the NIL money, he'd make a few million going back to college, and then trying for the draft again.

It took me about two days of wondering before I figured it out this morning that Smael had to have been some sort of contraction/nickname of Ismael.

Looking ahead to 2025, Sirianni’s career winning percentage of .706 means he has to achieve at least a record of 12-5 to not see that percentage dip.

If 12-5 is the over/under season record prop, do you take the over or the under?

I think that's about right, but over by a game.

@LeanMeanGM might get nervous I'm optimistic, though. Maybe I should say under by a lot

Mukuba is 13 months younger than Watts for all those who had this a close battle

Also, lets not forget the Jets are not going to be very good next year so our 3rd round pick from them should be in the 65-71 range

It would be great to have @paco put together a chart of the 2026 picks. We can then use the recent trade history to see how those picks might support moving up in that draft … assuming of course that we are starting with pick # 32 in each round.

Given the wealth of picks we have in the 3rd and 4th Rounds, 2026 may be the year to trade out of the 1st Round in exchange for a 2027 1st and a lower round 2026 pick. kind of like the Atlanta trade on Thursday.

Well explained.

The Barkley example is an outlier for two reasons. (1) he is way beyond starter level. He is HOF level. (2) even with that he only played 69% of the snaps (approximately 73% of 16 game snaps)

Compare (2) to other Offensive player percentages 81, 92, 86, 81. Heck even Grant Calcaterra had 66%.

Yup.

And Calcaterra had to play that many snaps due to the way we ise TEs and that Goedert missed about a quarter or so of the season due to injury... again. Which calls into question paying Goedert top dollar, which explains why they are looking to move on from him right now.

Makes bringing Goedert back more difficult.

If Campbell plays LB in run/neutral situations and drops in as DPR, Mondon might have role down the line in that subpackage as he’s decent in coverage (but a bit more of a project vs the run).

So, ultimately it boils down to the value of the role.

Mukabu is the safety Fangio preferred. That’s enough for me.
