We are having a discussion on another thread and one of the posters there claims he is the only person who believed in Hurts. So here is a question to the Blog, "Who in addition to @RememberTheKoy and @SkippyX were Hurts believers from the git-go … and regular critics of the "Hurts haters”?

Thank you for a history lesson. I clearly wasn’t paying attention.

I didn’t necessarily verbalize it, but I was pro Hurts the entire time. Once he got the starting job, I mean. And I chose to suffer in silence when reading all the negative comments directed at him. Arguing every little point seemed fruitless.

In all seriousness I was probably 1 of maybe 2 people defending the Hurts draft pick. But, I can't honestly say I've always loved him as a starting QB. Never did. Still don't.

Not that she is a poster, but my oldest daughter proudly wears her Hurts #2 jersey....she went to school at Alabama when he was there

It is really bad when CBS Sports is fishing for clickbait.

I sometimes think it’s not even intentional clickbait in situations like this. They take a look at our roster and see a third year 4th round pick with limited playing time competing with Jackson, see that we are a contender with cap space, and just make a prediction off of that.

They don’t take the time to understand that the 4th round pick in question has the measurables of a top 20 pick, that he’s still younger than many rookies, that the eagles targeted him with a trade up, and that coaches have been very public about how high they are on his progress.

I dont think they will. But the eagles can easily pay someone a reported number like that and only be on the hook for a small portion of it. I can see them doing a contract like that but a lot of it is incentive bonuses, "up to" 16 million. First one would be playing time to protect from injury. Then a bunch of other performance bonuses. INT numbers. Playoff bonuses for each round. Pro bowl and all pro bonuses. And of course, a couple void years.

IF they wanted him, I could see a 16 million dollar contract with an actual ~ 4 million cap number.

I dont think itll be necessary.

I’ve got one for you

In the Jalen Hurts dedicated thread a few years ago, @Diehardfan said he doesn’t even care if Hurts is a good QB or not, he just hates him as a person

And? You want to quote the stuff two seasons ago when I also stuck up for him in that thread when it started?

But yeah, I don't like his personality. In fact I've said multiple times nobody on here dislikes him more than me and even last year some took it too far.

You ask "and?”

"And” you’re the epitome of what’s he’s asking for: someone who’s dislike for Hurts transcends his play on the field

I think he has grown since that comment and I like the Jordan and Jeter advice. I'll probably never like him but it started with his play and carried to off field.

I do appreciate how openly you say that. Not beating around the bush

Thanks for that. However, I’m not looking for Hurts Haters, but rather Hurts Lovers.

Do you have any of those to share?

The NFL isn't assigned labor; the players sign up for the risks because of the rewards. JMO.

CTE can't be diagnosed until a postmortem examination at autopsy, so he's painted into a corner on that one.

CTE falls under the TBI umbrella…proving CTE itself is impossible, but post concussive syndrome (for example) is 100% diagnosable via imaging. Honestly all the ‘branches’ of TBI are linked with overlapping symptoms with varying severities. Not hard to play that card, now it appears that he has not truly sought treatment or help (or taken any of it seriously). That’s a leg that he’s going to have a hard time standing on.

Actually, that is the opposite of what I’m looking for, which is for people who have liked him consistently from Day One.

That’s the exact opposite of what he asked for. He asked who were Hurts believers from the very beginning.

I think there was a big difference between being highly critical, and that being exasperated by the over the top glazing by some at the time that drove some of those conversations to the brink of ‘Hurts hating’. I could easily be painted as a "hater” but at the end of the day i was highly critical for my sanity as an Eagles fan, but i think all but maybe one mentioned above truly want him to succeed.

Reminds me of the Kolb days…it was painfully apparent Kolb wasn’t it, yet he was glazed because of a few ‘great’ performances and we had a whole off season similar to the Hurts discussions. We all wanted him to succeed, but were being realists. Hurts just happened to prove some wrong and overcome his shortfalls.

Now we have the luxury of actually being able to critique him with little fear of reprisal since there’s a new Lombardi in the case. That should lead to more rational convos.

i’d like a cookie for calling Foles would win us our first SB the second he was drafted!!!

There was a few that i can’t remember exactly who, actually had rational thought processes behind liking the pick when very few of us did with Hurts.

I think it was me and afan and that is it.

I defended the Hurts pick. Liked that he could run but progressed as a passer in college. Thought worst case scenario he could be a good backup/gadget guy ala Tyson Hill, which isn't the worst use of a 2nd rounder. Upside of a good starter to either play or trade for good return.

Definitely can't say I was 100% confident in him as QB1 since then though (both TB playoff losses come to mind).

So partial credit?

I was absolutely baffled by the Hurts pick, thought it was an absolute joke that they tried trotting him out for like 2 plays per game that season, and then totally wrote him off after 2021 and that horrible TB playoff game.

Never been happier to be totally wrong about Wentz and Hurts. The biggest thing I learned is that, at QB, the intangibles absolutely matter more than probably any other position in sports.

There's a minimum level of physical ability required, and beyond that it's all mentality, leadership, and work ethic.

Hurts did it the old fashioned way and earned everything he's got, and he's perfect for what the Eagles ask of him
