Monday Morning Week Eight Eagles - Giants Second Meeting Game Score Predictions Update

Well six days from Hell did not become sixteen. Now it is time to see if the Eagles can get some revenge on the Giants.

As we do each week, we are gathering Game Score predictions. As always, please tag your prediction post with @mattwill that way I will be sure to see/record it.  Score predictions can also have an optional "Bonus Pick" tiebreaker prediction.  I will be taking predictions right up until Kickoff. If someone posts a prediction without a tag, please reply to it including the @mattwill tag.

I will post the Week Seven results on Wednesday when I get back to home in California.

Bryce Huff is like the Niners best player, he gets pressure on every play and the Eagles had the best defense in the NFL since the legion of boom last season and he barely played. Pretty crazy if you think about it.

Baffling how they couldn't find a way to use him.

So far on the season the Eagles have lost 12.5 sacks worth of players to other teams.

He looked good tonight and he's been decent for them but he has 4 sacks in 7 games. The Hyperbole is strong with this one.

Even on passing downs he didn't produce here. Looks like a different player with the Niners. Why, who knows.

Tonight Huff was making most of his splash plays against Elijah Wilkinson who was on the PS until late September and whose NFL experience is mostly at guard. ATL started chipping him with Bijan or running screens to his side. I feel like this was a Matt Pryor situation but on Penix’s blindside.

His DC had no confidence in him and didn't want to use him. It had an impact on his attitude which probably didn't help Vic's opinion of him and willingness to use him. Hence it results in him not even dressing for the SB. He is now playing for Saleh who he had success with in New York. He probably feels confident and has a better attitude and performs better. These might be pro athletes but they are still human beings and I am sure you have had jobs/bosses etc that valued you and it gave you confidence and helped you to perform better and also the opposite at some point where they didn't get your best. Scheme fit as like well like I said. None of it is that complicated or mysterious.

Huff is a good pass rushing DE in a 4-3 base and not a great fit as an OLB in a 3-4.

That would also make a big difference. I agree with homie though, Huff looks likes a different player with the 49'ers. The reasons are pretty obvious though and I think he is making it way too complicated. Occam's razor here.

Yep and that is where scheme fit comes in. Vic asks more of his pass rushers in this system than to simply rush the passer. Prime example of it today was Hunt dropping into a zone which resulted in a pick 6. Huff can't play the run or drop into coverage at all. He is a pass rushing specialist and nothing more.

I don’t think Huff can play outside of a 4pt stance, he’s mostly about get off and timing. Just asking him to play in a 2pt stance as an OLB, robs him of his technique.

Good point. I remember that was talked about last year as to part of the reason for his struggles.

He's back with his old coach who knows how to use him I guess?

Way cool

Should be. They have a good pass rush and they are playing with confidence. Not a game you can just play bad and still win have to actually be competent.

And they have a rookie QB who, whilst I think is being overrated and plays like an idiot, is playing well and is giving his team fight and attitude. That is a dangerous team to play.

After yesterday I don’t see how anyone can miss the fact that the problem with the O this year is and has been the OL. No doubt a few in here will stubbornly stick with their dug in positions.

I’m thinking Howie’s prio should shift to iOL rather than Edge or CB. If they can’t get at least a mediocre push up front then they will be bounced early. Steen now looks very average and the other two are just plain old banged up. They need some help.

Why does SF always seem to manage to have a good record even when theyre not that good?

Their schedule is ridiculously easy this year....I thought they would win 12 without blinking and it had nothing to do with how GOOD the Niners actually are/were......

This is textbook not a catch. Its the video that should be included for teaching refs.

The 2 refs that thought it was a catch after a review should be fired tomorrow. They are too stupid to be refs.

The ball hit the ground and it came lose in his hands.

Don't let it hit the ground.

If you do let it hit the ground, it can't move. Not at all.

It can't move when it is on the ground and it can't move while you are finishing the catch.

Its very simple. TJ should suck less next time.

It was so clear Mike Pereira didn't even hesitate, just straight up said it's not a TD and then explained why, even from the angle Greg Olsen was saying it looks like his hands are under the ball it was pretty clear it had hit the ground and moved substantially, from the other angles it was clear it came fully out of his hands, and Hockenson will know it too, he's blowing smoke.

Wasn’t it in the final 2 minutes of the half?

It was a scoring play...all TDs are reviewed

lol

I'm guessing none of them watched the replay. It looked like a catch, except for the one angle which clearly showed the ball was not under control after it hit the ground. Sorry TJ. Do better.

Side note for TJ. Even if they called that a TD, you still lose. Catch it clean next time and they won't overturn the call.

Thoughts on the game…

  • Biggest takeaway from me? Hurts delivered on the deep ball. It’s his "fastball” as a passer. When he hits on those in high leverage moments, he’s the best can be. Was nice to see after a frustrating month.

  • Patullo is still bad. Hoping we can land McDaniel as a "senior offensive assistant” after he gets fired.

  • I want to see less Saquon for a bit. The iOL is a mess right now, the run calls are predictable. His huge workloads aren’t getting the team anywhere and wearing him down for no reason. Shipley and Bigsby are intriguing backs - use them to their strengths.

  • Speaking of the iOL… I never want to see Toth play football again.

  • Kickoff return is still terrible. Seems like we either have a bad return or a decent return called back from a penalty on every single one.

  • Was great to see Dean playing again. Good run defender, great timing on his rushes, lots of fire on the field. Looked really good to me.

  • Mukuba is a limited, massively high variance player. I don’t trust him at all in coverage before the receiver breaks. The lateral quickness isn’t there, and he’s gonna get Moss’d several times per season. People wrongly assume that because he played nickel in college that he was good at it. He really wasn’t. He and CB2 have been the biggest liabilities so far on defense, more than the pass rush.

  • My biggest fear? Howie Golden Tates us again, this time for an edge.

Definitely agree on Muluba. I thought I was the only person here not impressed with him. He is a poor tackler probably due to his slight frame but his coverage is generally bad. They are rolling with him no matter what as he just played 100% of the snaps but he worries me in coverage.

They have CB options on the street. You are right.

I think 11 wins will probably win the NFC BEAST this year. I do not believe the GMen will get to double digits. The Boys will have to go 7-3 over the next 10 games to get to 10. Washington also would have to go 7-3 to get to 10. The Eagles just have to go 6-4 over the next 10 and they would finish with 11 wins. The Eagles also play the Cowboys again and Washington twice.

He's a rookie and he'll have lapses. He's still better than Brown. So, what other choice do they really have? Let him learn on the job. At least this way they will know what they have in him, unlike Ringo, whom they believed was better than he really is. But they never knew because he didn't get on the field to prove it.
