Meh. I think it had much more to do with Hurts hesitating (on non designed runs) when there was an opening to run for the first down.

If you take away Saquon’s big game against the Giants (14-150) then he averaged 3.7 yards per carry this season. We were constantly in second and long and for some reason were locked into running on those downs. It’s hard for any QB to thrive in those situations. It was just a perfect storm of slop.

Somehow that doesnt add up because if that were his average on 1st and 2nd down, then Hurts would be faced with the daunting task of having to throw on 3rd downs with an average of about 2.6 yards to gain for a 1st down.

In reality, we almost never faced 3rd and short it seemed.

But, when Hurts had to pass on 3rd and 7, 3rd and 8, 3rd and 10, he threw 2 yard routes way short of the sticks. Its not asking a lot for him to throw some different routes, or target some different players in the offense once in a while.

Its not like they asked him to throw on 3rd and 14 a lot. Those situations were usually a draw. A solid QB should be able to manage many of those 3rd and 7s with the talent we have on this offense. And when covered, we really needed Hurts to scramble to extend drives which he hardly ever did this year. Thats a huge thing that he himself has direct control over and he decided to take it away from us.

Yep. The defense wilted.

I didn’t watch the other game last night…but I just watched a video complaining about the Chargers OL. In this video i watched Herbert stand in a clean pocket for 5 seconds and fall over.

I think Herbert had a really bad year to the point where he may be permanently ruined.

If I was some QB needy team I might still roll the dice that with an OL and some weapons he can recover. But he may be Carr'd.

They only scored 23 points. We only got 3 points off of their 2 TOs. This loss is 0% on the defense.

Yea, they twice gave up fourth-quarter TD drives with the lead but somehow are absolved of any blame. Get out of here with that.

He reported to the Eagles and passed his physical.

Still bad faith but that's just me

They might get the pick back if enough information emerges showing that Alexander never intended to play unless he started, etc.

Or the Ravens could give the "pick back" in good faith - etc etc

Toth is good, cheap depth.

Reed can go after yesterday’s performance. He’s oft injured and will only get worse with age once his limited athleticism escapes him.

I don't know about being injured, but he struggles in coverage. Good tackler, good run support, but needs a guy like CJGJ so he doesn't have to roam center field and cover TEs.

It's not 0% on the defense. We were up 19-17 and they rather easily gave up a TD drive to lose. Is it more on the O? Definitely. Same ole O problems. But the D had the chance to make a stop to win and failed pretty badly

Seems like a lot of people saying AJ will be and should be traded. I’ve said multiple times that AJ is heavily on the downslope.

But this pass offense is horrible. What happens when you take a 1,000 yard receiver away from an already horrible passing offense?

You want to neglect the OL and draft a WR round 1? We can’t afford to buy one. Who the hell is going to be wr 2 on this already terrible passing offense?

It depends on how much we can actually benefit from a new OC. Or how much our QB holds us back from benefitting. Most offenses can function with far less at the skill positions. We had an incredible situation with Dotson and Metchie as 3 and 4, and Cooper 5 and we never used any of them and traded away Metchie.

Had we moved on from Brown, Smith, Dotson, and Metchie is a DAMN good WR corps still. Smith, Dotson, and Cooper is also probably good enough for a more than functional offense....

With a QB.

If we had that, I would be extremely confident in this WR corps without AJ Brown.

He can force his way out if he makes it untenable. They won’t let a guy hold the team hostage. We thought they couldn’t get rid of Wentz. Unlikely but not impossible.

Wentz wanted out. If AJ wants out, I'm pretty sure there's a way. Wanting out and maybe willing to modify his contract would be key though.

We scored 19 points when the 9ers had multiple PS level players starting on their defense.

Seriously, how is this so hard for people to see or admit? The offense stunk, but the defense had a chance to win the game and also failed. And 23 points allowed isn’t some crowning achievement against an offense without much at WR beyond Jennings that lost Kittle early in the game all while playing in windy conditions.

The offense takes 98% of the blame. D gave them 2 turnovers at midfield, a stop that yielded a terrible punt. 3 short fields and the offense scored 6 points. 1 td on any of those drives wins the game. The d did its job

No S, man, we all know the offense stunk. That doesn’t absolve the defense of giving up the lead with two long TD drives in the fourth quarter. Goodness gracious.

Despite all that it was the highest EPA by an offense against an Eagles defense coached by Fangio…

Wrong.

Half of those designed runs this year were maddening failures where he was too slow to get outside. Half were good- the only good ones were the draws.

I dont get why everyone is focused on called runs. Maybe because its cool to pick on Patullo's play calling.

The fact is, the bigger issue with the lack of running was Hurts decision to basically stop scrambling to pick up 1st downs this year. Thats the hardest thing to defend. Thats what he used to be so good at. Thats what really stresses a defense and changes the math on how they can defend you.

If they called more designed runs, thered have been a ton more wasted plays than we already had.

Who cares about the defense? It’s very obvious what our problem was last night, and they weren’t it. This is a team we should be dropping 40+ on and resting the offense heading into the 4th.

Sounding like KP will be back.

If Brown is willing to restructure so he's able to be traded, I'm pretty sure there's a way they can make it happen so that it works out for everyone involved.

Are there any salary cap experts that have insight on ways that it could work?

Phillips didn’t pass the eye test but the metrics love him. He’s ranked very highly in pressure rate and such. I think he could stay especially since they’re thin at edge.

You can argue he impacted the games more than Nolan Smith did down the stretch and his largest in game criticism from Miami was he struggled to finish plays. And it showed through. But a lot to like as a player

I'd rather have him back next year than other players who will be FAs - but the money can only go so far and OIL/TE seem to be more urgent needs than DE.

I sure as hell care that tue defense gave up two long scoring drives that gave up the lead in the fourth quarter. Just because the offense sucked doesn’t mean the defense is allowed to give up TDs instead of a FG. The game was there to be won by both sides of the ball and they both failed. It’s OK to admit that.

Would have loved more sakcs, but he pressured and probably overlooked by many he played the run well. Id for sure keep him.
