I wouldn't be surprised if they go the 5th year option route with him now until they are sure he is committed and in shape for a mega contract. This past season didn't bode well for him. The defense played well (even better in some regards) when he was sidelined and with Davis as the focus at DT. And that could be a red flag for the Eagles brass.

His talent is undeniable but it's whether he can get it all together and perform up to his talent level on a consistent basis - without side distractions, health issues etc etc - is what will likely determine his future here and future contract anywhere.

I will never understand the logic of promoting an internal coach to OC that has never called plays while the team is in a SB window. The starting offense only eclipsed 200 yards passing 8 times all season, and only twice did they go over 200 passing and 100 rushing.

This year was a waste because of Patuallo and Hurts. Next year will be a waste because of just Hurts.

Yeah that call made no sense. Should of been reversed had it mattered. Which makes me question the officiating even more.

It's going to be interesting to see what they do with Jake Elliott. This is the second year in a row he's struggled at stretches of the season. Like Graham, love him for being clutch in the 2 SB wins. But it's probably time to go. The issue is cutting him is over $6M in dead money. He's also pretty clearly one of the "franchise guys" on the team.

What they do with him might be a peek into what their off-season plan is. If they keep him around, it's probably going to be more of the same. If they move on from him, they might feel more of an overhaul is needed than just a tweak here and there.

My best guess is that they bring in competition at camp and likely won't make a decision until after.

Its time for Jake to go - no hard feelings, but he's no longer reliable enough that you can't find someone better and for less cap space. Harsh for an Eagles kicking ledge, but times up.

That McCaffery TD on Dean was a killer. He ran a perfect route and there was really nothing Dean could. They ran a little pick on Dean first and by the time Dean picks up McCaffery on the flat route, McCaffery cuts inside and makes the catch.

If they eat other money they might just decide to ride it out one more year. You could do better but you could do worse

I'd say hurts is painfully average, flirting the line with below average when he doesn't run. Yesterday his pocket presence was atrocious, there were a couple plays on the last drive where he bailed on a perfect pocket and Brady called him out on it.

The problem, as you said is the cap hit. Spotrac has us at ~22mm in offseason cap space (based on top 51), and cutting Michael Carter gets that to just under $31mm. Setting aside ~$5.7mm for the draft picks, we are left with $25.2 million. I think we can save ~$7.2mm by extending JD, so that gets you back to $32mm, and Howie will want to carry at least $5mm into the season, so back to $27mm. With that, we need a TE, CB, S and tons of depth (we have less than 40 players under contract next year). Trading AJ before June 1 is basically impossible -- it's ~$20.2mm in an incremental cap hit, and now you need another starting WR and only have ~$7mm in cap space. Even that $6mm hit for Jake is a problem unless you make him a post June 1 cut.

We have no cap flexibility to take dead money hits in 2026.

If you want to have a CEO coach, you need to have a pipeline in place of young, good offensive minds that you develop. Eagles have sucked at developing offensive coaches and you are seeing it now with the second failed, likely one and done internal promotion.

It's easier said than done, but it's possible. McVay and Shanahan while not CEO coaches, have developed coaching talent.
