EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Rational thinking would conclude that replacing the OC and O coaches while not making any cap killing decisions this year is the way to go. Can make bigger changes next year if things go south

He doesn't need to eclipse 1400 yards every year in order to be great. He's already a great player. He's still putting up over 1k and 7tds a year in a run first offense. It's hard to replace him and if you think a rookie is going to walk in and put those numbers up, you're crazy

Maybe we can trade him, and use that pick to draft the next Treylon Burks.

With Smitty on the other side?

A true team player - just as talented as AJ Brown - better hands, better flexibility - better route runner (without question).

No - Smitty is getting the ball - all day long. Undersized and questioned from the beginning - yet a Heisman and a Lombardi trophy later - still plays second fiddle to AJ Brown? Nope - Smitty gets his 1500 yards - AJ maybe 1k if he actually comes to work.

He's done it twice with Smith in the other side. Smith is my favorite player. He's never gone over 1200 yards in a season and you expect him to easily get 1400?

Outside Smith, Howie doesn't have the best track recorded drafting WRs

It’s like they never really self evaluate. wtf are they doing in practice?

Hot take question:

Is this roster so good that the better HC candidates out there could take over as HC and win? The roster as is, no changes to who is under contract. Like in a similar way to Barry Switzer taking over for Jimmy Johnson?

Dammit, I got an alert from the Eagles and I thought the deed was done. Unfortunately it was to announce futures contracts.

Calcaterra kind of reminds me of a dollar store Ertz. If they had Ertz block all the time, we’d hate his guts too.

Hope he goes somewhere and is used properly. I never want to see him play another down here.

That's the problem, he's not that great as a receiving TE, can't even make his blocks on the 2nd level against TEs and only makes catches when he's uncovered.

Which is why part of the blame is on Howie, he basically ran back the same offense as 2024, Bigsby the only addition, Cooper was a surprise then got injured, Wilson got injured, had to pick up Fred b/c his other OTs sucked.

Basically thought they could run the power game with big plays off play action that they did in 2024 so didn't need to upgrade depth or add versatility to the roster.

1) opposing DCs took away the big downfield throws more often

2) Lane out, Dickerson and Jurgens at 50% due to injuries (couldn't shut them down for half a season due to lack of depth, and lack of courage by HC, I would have taken my chances with Kendall and Toth)., So no inside run game.

3) If teams don't respect PA, and they stop the run early, you need an efficient short passing game, but both scheme and personnel didn't fit. If you go 2 TE, you have to throw to them on a regular basis underneath the deep shell to keep LBs honest. And if you line up TEs tight to LOS, they have to be able to block in-line when they have a DE on top of them, Goedert was meh and Calcaterra was dead meat in that situation.

The think that bothers me most about the Eagles offense this season isn't the ineptitude, it's the arrogance. The coaches have heard the criticisms. The fact that they see everything everyone else saw on film in these games and didn't change tells me more that they didn't think it needed to be changed rather than not knowing how to change it. Having dumb coaches is bad. Having egomaniacs as coaches is even worse. And I'm afraid we may have both. Dumb coaches who are too arrogant to change because they think they know better. That would piss me off more than anything if I'm Lurie.

I mean Devonta did.

900 and 5 tds anyway. Close.

I think what they would get for him in a trade would be worth more than what he would produce here next season. Because of the money he’s probably back anyway though unfortunately.

A little off topic but maybe we got some really dedicated Eagles today...there is a story of Niner lore from Steve Young when the Niners had just won the Super Bowl. In the early morning after the big game, Steve Young came to the facilities to gather some stuff. He looked out to the practice field and he saw Jerry Rice running routes and catching passes. I hope someone is so frustrated with the loss that a fire is already burning for next year...let the offseason begin...

Have to believe that while Howie was doing future contracts today on the PS players they want to retain as well as fishing off of others available (Latu about this time last year), he has his analytics staff putting together the reasons Patullo has to go. Difficult for Nick because of how long he and Patullo have been together, so Howie will have to make his case. Hell, I didn’t like Patullo as Passing Game Coordinator and I sure as hell didn’t like his playcalling this year. So get a new PGC along with a new OC. Didn’t see that Parks Frazier added anything this year.

Got to ask about other offensive coaches. Time to move on from Moorehead? He really hasn’t developed any WRs.

Also have to wonder why it appears Stout and Singleton regressed in the run game. Is it just the shape Dickerson and Jurgens and less Lane for half the season? Frankly, I think that was part of it but I also think a lot of it was the playcalling of Patullo.

Don’t know that a Loeffler should be secure. Didn’t really see much improvement by Hurts this year.

@LeanMeanGM and I have said this for a few years now. He really hasn’t done much except be given Aj brown and Smith. Almost all the wide receivers he’s asked to develop get worse over time and not better.

Never said anything of the sort.

But in all honesty - and be fair - do you not think DeVonta Smith as the #1 and a decent #2 - along with Goedert - could produce the passing yards they did this past season?

Come on, my man - be honest.

As the true #1?

Without question - with his eyes closed.

Well?

2026 to me is a major inflection point for Hurts. If a new innovative OC comes in and Hurts individually doesn't look any better than in 2025, I think you have to look to move on in 2027. He's not paying 50m per season QB right now. And I trust Howie to find another QB to develop somewhere.

Sure, I think HC & QB both have to be better next year or changes could be made. I think Sirriani is more likely to go if the O struggles again and Hurts is more likely to have 2 more seasons but such is life in the NFL. They could win the SB too

I was watching a 2027 NFL draft video on YouTube last night from Hail Mary Sports and we chose LaNorris Sellers...

What would you say are the years he improved? And not by winning (team stat). What years did Hurts improve as a QB?

Would replace Nick with Stefanski in a heartbeat. Can only hope that Lurie has the ball to look past the "optics”.

I’d take him as the OC but I don’t think they would ever do HC for the reason you mentioned
