EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

still don’t think he’s very good, but I do give him credit for last night. I thought he played maybe his best game this season. I think a great pass rush helped. But he actually made some plays and tackled.

He leaves early, but Lane is good at it.

JR could correct but I think Lane learned it from Peters. I remember Peters was a pro at it and when he got older is when it slowed and the false starts happened

Why we manage to win...

We are first in RZ offense and are 4th in RZ defense.

We are 8th in turnover margin and first in fewest giveaways.

Running QBs are a big advantage in tighter spaces in the red zone, not to mention the tush push benefit. Their them is getting to the red zone.

I have seen others say this and it doesn't matter. Hurts should have never been on the field. Siri should have yanked him and the rest of the offense off the field and put the punt team out there. WORST CASE the punt is a touch back and you force them to gain an additional 15 yards or so from where they ended up with the ball with very little time and no timeouts. Best case you pin them inside the 10 and barring a legit miracle the game is over. It was one of the worst decisions I have ever seen a coach make.

Listening to Siri’s press conference makes me think that Hurts went rogue, saw something at the line, and called the play to AJ on that 4th down. Nick isn’t going to throw anyone under the bus in front of the media so I think he was covering for him.

It’s hard to make blanket statements when we don’t know who is at fault. But they’re nothing wrong with trying to draw the defenses offsides there. If you can’t trust your qb to not run a play, he needs to be benched.

At some point they started allowing OL to be unset at the snap, and we wonder why refs have difficulty managing false starts. You got guys setting, relaxing their stance looking around, resetting, shooting their hands as part of the silent count. And in Lane’s case hanging one leg in the air at the snap.

"Rogue” was probably the wrong term on my end, but I think the intention was to try to get them to jump (which I agree with), Hurts saw something in the matchup he liked and checked to AJ. He has freedom at the line to do what he wants as we’ve seen in the past. It was probably a 90/10 call to try to draw versus running a play unless he was sure he got the look he wanted.

Still a stupid call and I’d be saying the same thing now if he completed it.

@Iggles_Phan was prophetic with "Nail biter, down to the final gun. I manage to stay awake until the end of the game."

It's true. I managed to stay awake for the whole game, even though I didn't sit down to watch it until nearly 11pm. (Fortunately I was able to fast forward through a lot of the nonsense... and finished the game in under 2 hours.).

Once again, you can't go from a dummy call to a valid play simply with gestures or checks at the line. That is not how it works. A pass play is an incredibly verbose call, it's not being made at the line if it wasn't called in the huddle. And it's not called in the huddle in that situation unless it came in on the headset.

When the defense is playing well, while the offense finds its way, you get ugly wins. A lot of times when the offense is playing well while the defense finds its way you get a lot of pretty losses. I'll take the ugly wins.

As usual I’m looking for progress, and we got it on one side of the ball. I wouldn’t say the offense regressed, it’s just another example of what they are over a larger sample size.

Substitute work for the word game and that sounds like most of my work days. If I could find a way to get an Ai bot to attend my Teams meetings I could be as efficient as you! 😂

I don’t buy the argument it should be banned because it’s tough to officiate but they really do such a bad job officiating it. I don’t mean the slow-mo replays of a guy jumping a half second early either. The two non-calls last night were really bad.

They were and that actually should be the end of the discussion. One was a standard QB sneak which has been run forever and which GB themselves used to win the NFL Championship back in the 60s at the end of the game in a play that goes down as an all time classic. The other was a tush push. Both essentially have the same issues with people lined up tight and trying to get a jump. Both plays also have the same challenge for the refs in trying to judge forward momentum. It is what it is, end of story.

It’s pretty blatant here. parsons has no chance on this play besides trying to trip. I don’t care if they don’t call it often. There’s stuff every year that rarely gets called but somehow manages to get called. Frankly rules that some fans don’t even know. they know the rules. Like if it wasn’t blatantly obvious, I would agree with you. But you could see it clear as day that Micah Parsons has no shot at making that tackle so just stick his leg out there. He’s lucky he didn’t hurt considering Barkley’s speed when running into it

Worth pointing out the weirdos on X that post and post about false starts on the shove, failed to notice the tripping. Almost like they have an agendawhistle

Once the (bad) decision to run a play is made, the throw to AJ is as good as any other option.

Totally agree. If it gets intercepted it can end up essentially being a very effective punt.

Bottom line - It should have been a punt.

They were defeated on all fronts this past off-season. Their new tact is they've stopped trying to officiate it so they can say it's impossible to officiate to get it banned on that premise. It's no more impossible than any QB sneak. The Refs PA taking on it's own agenda.

What sort of team are the Dolphins running down there? Phillips seems relieved to be out of there

The GB right guard or right tackle (?) was consistently getting off early. Not sure if this was mentioned on the telecast, but it was helping their run game early. The refs finally got it clamped down eventually with a false start.

What a dork 😆

I found it funny Skip and Shannon both said it at the time it happened. Most comments on their tweet was about false starts.

Of course these are his takes. More engagement bait.

Watching Endzone on Sunday, there were all sorts of false starts happening on plays that you'd consider normal. I think it was the RG that went early but funny how the Refs call it once, and the issie goes away.

The more I try to understand this team the more confused I get. Idk how a team that leads the league in 3 and outs is holding on to the one seed in the nfc. My eyes tell me something is fundamentally flawed but they keep winning and it’s against very good teams not scrubs. Gonna sound weird but this team is the "Jalen Hurts” of the NFL ‘ flawed but somehow wins.

We will see this Sunday whether they can weather another test. Detroit’s Offense isn’t going to put up only 7 points.

Interesting. People need to lighten up

However, that one play has broken so many people that I take it as light entertainment to scroll the comments and see bitter they are.

Stopped reading when I saw the but. They still have one of the best RB's in the league and Jordan Love is supposed to be an elite QB. The defense balled the F out, PERIOD, END OF STORY.

You make me smile! Life for you is a series of absolutes. Nothing grey in your black and white world. It has taken a while to get used to, but it’s a pleasure to behold.

That first tweet was typical ESP "big brain" fodder, this is why I've never taken him seriously.

I think we can all read between the lines on the Patullo tweet...
