Out of curiosity, what happens to these Howie contracts if a player retires early - does all of the dead money accelerate. or does it just play out as a player on the retired list?

It accelerates. They typically do it as a post June 1 transaction to spread it out over 2 years

Good news. I got an email back from VABeach_Eagle, he is ok. He has been tending to his mother's health as she's been in the hospital, and exhausted lately. He says he will be more available to log on

Accelerates. That’s why BG, Cox etc all wait to file retirement papers after 6/1 so they can spread it out over two years

Good question for @vikas83 and @LeanMeanGM they can answer it better than me

An add on question

What happened to our picks?

Goedert coming back this season might have been one of the most important decisions they could have made in the offseason. Imagine this TE room without him.

Agreed, and I think we will see that happen again in this coming offseason.

Got it - thanks!

This may make the board go nuts, but I would not rule out Hurts getting traded in the next year or two. Pittsburgh is my first thought if Tomlin remains the HC. Personally, I would not be shocked at all if there are "discussions" with them after this season.

Idk unless they truly believe McKee is a pro bowl caliber QB in the waiting or they know they can get someone like burrow (who’s an injury risk) i really don’t see it. I would’ve said not out of line if last year the eagles failed to get back to the Super Bowl and lost the packers or rams games due to passing offense.

I think a smart coach would see the Eagles OL is nowhere near what it was last year. That Calcaterra and Granson suck. That running Saquon 26 times for 83 yards is a detriment to the team.

Oh yeah our OC is Patullo and we’re gonna run the same crap every week no matter what

Everyone’s touting Jaelen Phillips as Howie’s big masterpiece trade this year, but Fred Johnson is not far behind

That was certainly a pleasant surprise. Even more than it wasn't just the 1 game

Imo it’s a better FA class this offseason. I kind of think they draft and sign one in FA.

Offense really relies on our talent is better than your talent. Eventually it’s going to wear you down or we will make a couple plays and beat you. Frankly if this play calling and scheming matched the talent, our offense is easily the best in the league

There were a couple of overthrown passes, especially the one to a wide open Barkley that would have been a TD. Was it the wind, was he rushed, just seems he was a bit off with throws.

He wasn’t just a bit off with throws. He was way off. The wind was enough of a factor that he couldn’t get into a rhythm.

Everyone healthy and a different playcaller/playdesign

I think we could go undefeated

Players who need to be paid either right after next season or prior to

Jalen Carter

Jordan Davis

Quinyon Mitchell

Cooper Dejean

Nakobe Dean

Jaelen Phillips

Dallas Goedert

Nolan Smith

Jalyx Hunt

Reed Blankenship

Moro Ojomo

Tank Bigsby

Players we’re definitely going to pay

Jalen Carter

Quinyon Mitchell

Every other name on the first list is completely up in the air

I think they are going to keep DeJean. He's as important to the defense as Quinyon. There pattern has been to keep elite players at each level. I think you also have to sort out who would be eligible next offseason vs. the 2027 offseason. In order of likelihood they will get re-signed, I would order them:

Definitely Want to Keep price is not an issue

  1. Jalen Carter

  2. Quinyon Mitchell

  3. Cooper DeJean

Want to Keep and will make FMV offer

  1. Jaelen Phillips

  2. Jalyx Hunt

Want to keep on a team friendly deal:

  1. Moro Ojomo

  2. Nolan Smith

  3. Jordan Davis

  4. Tank Bigsby

Have made a decision to move on from them but would keep:

  1. Reed Blankenship

  2. Dallas Goedert

  3. Nakobe Dean

That’s exactly what I saw. Lot of hand checking. Just like in roundball, never hand check on top of the arm as that keeps the player from moving the arm up and is a foul. AJ used absurd body movement to accentuate the blocked right arm so the ref couldn’t help but see that blocking move. Only gets called maybe 1 out of 3 times but it is PI.

Yup...I would not have called it but Brown was only able to get one arm up to catch the ball due to the defensive player's grab.

Tank is in that neighborhood.

With how the defense is playing right now, that’s probably true. The fact of the matter is if the Eagles can figure a way to scratch and claw to 24 points, they are likely going to win every game they play. Because with how the defense is playing right now. I’m not sure there’s a lot of teams that are gonna be able to put up more than 20 points. The Buffalo Bills might be able to do it if Josh Allen plays out of his mind. Even then i think our defense is more capable of shutting down their offensive weapon. The Rams might be able to do it if they play out of their mind but yesterday they played the Seahawks who gave them four turnovers (and in decent field position) and they barely managed to get 21 points.

If the Eagles offense can figure out ways to score 24 points on every game, they are gonna win every game left on the schedule. Only team that would have a punchers chance is Buffalo. That said who knows if we can consistently even with a lot of mediocre to bad defense left on the schedule.

I'm kind of disappointed that we traded away Metchie, as he was under contract next year like Tank due to missing a season.

Twitter’s up in arms about that penalty. But I thought it was pass interference that probably shouldn’t been called. Cause you weren’t really calling all game.

The penalty that people should’ve lost their mind about on Twitter was when AJ Brown fell over because he slipped. somehow they called him for a 15 yard penalty. That was BS. We’ve seen on  guys fall over and hit into somebody’s leg and it’s never called. Yet somehow they managed to call it on that? Heck we had parson’s blatantly throw his leg out there to trip someone and it’s not called

Eagles beat Packers and Lions so they are benching Hurts against Cowboys, right @mattwill ?

The defense beat the Packers and Lions while the offense got bailed out of their ineptitude

We run a few routes the majority of the time in Siri/KP scheme. Hitch, out and 9 route. It’s all we do. Rarely do we even run a slant route. It’s a travesty with this amount of talent that it’s wasted by such stupidity with this coaching staff. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s more of a hurts thing. But he’s shown glimpses of being a serviceable qb. The scheme is so bad and we don’t have the creative minds to fix it

I would love to see plays like the one the Lions ran where the right side WR motioned from the outside and when the ball was snapped cut between the TE and the RT continuing on a shallow crossing route. He was wide open and Goff hit him in stride.

I can’t see him retiring on his own volition personally. He’s one of those football is life types. After the JP lesson Howie learned, I’m fearful he might not finish his career in midnight green.

He's literally talked about retiring at the end of this contract for the last 2 seasons, I could've seen him pulling the pin if we won it all this year, but seeing the way it's going for him I could see him calling it a career anyway.
