@vikas83 what are the ramifications to cap, dead money and cash if Landon Dickerson retires

This is what Google AI is coming up with (below), but I’m pretty sure the retirement now would be like a pre June cut. A post June cut would be 15m dead money and -5m cap savings.

If Landon Dickerson were to retire today (specifically considering the start of the 2026 league year based on current, updated projections), the Philadelphia Eagles would face significant cap ramifications due to his recently signed contract extension.

  • Dead Cap (2026): If retiring/leaving in 2026, the dead cap value is $27,513,000.

  • Cap Savings (2026): The Eagles would not see immediate savings; rather, a retirement would accelerate his remaining signing bonus, resulting in a substantial hit.

  • Context: Dickerson is currently under contract through 2028 after signing a 4-year, $84 million extension that included a $20 million signing bonus and $50 million in guarantees.

  • Potential Out: The team has a more realistic "potential out" in 2027, where the dead cap hits drop to $12,130,000

Note: This information is based on contract projections for the 2026 league year, considering he is in the middle of his extension.

I don't see how they move Brown as well. That is a crap ton of dead space

We talked about this last week, I could see the Eagles viewing 2026 similar to 2021. Where they still think they’re gonna be competitive (that 2021 year i think they believed they were much better than the previous 4-11-1 team in 2020) but they’re truly not Super Bowl contenders. Where they are building in 2026 for a better future in 2027 and 2028. If that’s the path they decide to take I wouldn’t be totally shocked if that AJ Brown trade doesn’t go through until June 1 and they take a first round pick in 2027 compared to maybe taking lesser compensation in 2026 draft.

Do I think that is the most likely scenario? No, but I wouldn’t be entirely shocked if it happens lane and Dickerson retire, goedert leaves and aj wants out and they want to deal him.

If I could sign one outside free agent this year it’s Linderbaum. He’d take care of your center position for 5 years. But I think he either goes back to the Ravens or follows Harbaugh to the Giants. Eagles don’t have the cap space to outbid these teams and without Stoutland the Eagles are less of a destination for OL.

I don’t think it’s very likely at all. The Eagles don’t have a lot of cap space. I do think they could make it work if they want too as howie is creative. I’m not so sure he would come here unless they overpaid everybody. I kind of agree with you, I think he’s either going back to the ravens or is following Harbaugh to the Giants.

If Dickerson is going to retire wait and post June cut or ask him to retire after June, makes more financial sense.

He’s only 27!

I’m guessing that’s what happens if he does retire.

It didn't have to go down like this but Nick seems to have screwed it all up so yeah I guess they are going that way now

Asked Vikas but what would the ramifications cap, dead money and all that be if Dickerson retired

To quote Adam Caplan, it would be a fluid situation. His contract is structured in a unique way as it is and then If he retired the Eagles could go after all those bonuses. Not saying they would, but it’s possible and it would change cap and dead money.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they pulled a Bradberry. He wouldn’t technically retire but spend all of 2026 on PUP and then officially retire in 2027 post June 1st when it’s easier.

Why are the sixers always bad in the 3rd quarter. I swear every time i watch them their 3rd quarters they are just bad (4th quarter apparently even worse right now)

Becton’s knee is probably trashed at this point.

There’s no doubt that’s what would happen. Legends like Cox, Kelce and Graham all announced retirement in March but all they have to do is file the papers after June. Same thing would happen here.

I liked your idea of riding the season on PUP and retiring in ’27(post June). That saves 8m in cap with only 5m in dead money…Monster difference in total dollars.

Edit: Only bad thing is paying a guy 10m to ride PUP,

Gronk and AP are likely first ballot. I doubt Roethlisberger is. Sherman eventually but he’ll wait. The rest, meh.

It’s unfortunate that Brandon Brooks had the injuries that basically derailed his career. Nowhere close to a HOFer but if he stayed healthy and the longevity of Lane i think his play when he was healthy here was one of the best in the league at his position.

Brooks is one of my favorite Eagles of all time. He was great when healthy on the field but also great off the field bringing attention to mental health and anxiety at a time it wasn’t discussed much in the NFL. He’s just an all around likeable dude who had terrible injury luck.

Now he’s slumming it up with @vikas83 at Goldman Sachs and having lunch at Dorsia every Friday.

My wife and I will be visiting Thailand in November, with the current plan to retire to Southeast Asia permanently in 5 years. It will give us the option to retire at the same time (she’s significantly younger) and enjoy both a warmer climate and more relaxed pace.

So I've been looking at Central America. 20 years too late buying into Costa Rica but looking at Nicaragua, Panama and El Salvador. Panama probably right now......I surf and want to be somewhere warm with waves. And same here, I'm 57, wife is 38. I figure between investments and Social Security, I can generate around 200k annually in retirement income. People ask if I'm crazy thinking about Central America....I say hmmm....live on a beach, buy a house for 300k or 400k, be able to surf, have the Mrs running around in a bikini, and to top it off....where does 200k mean more....the US or Central America?

The only certainty we have on the OL right now, which has been a staple for years is Mailata. And even he isn’t a 100% certainty because he took a step back in 2025.

You already lost Stoutland

Lane may retire

Dickerson may retire

Who knows about Jurgens

Who knows about AJ

Who knows how good/bad Mannion will be

Who knows how Hurts will perform in a new scheme

Who knows how many free agents you can afford to keep

If any combination of these don’t go in the Eagles favor, the 2026 season could turn into a disaster season very quickly. It doesn’t take much in the NFL to turn an 11 win team into an 8 win team. Happens all the time.

And it’s not like any one of the questions about the team is some super long shot. Howie and Lurie better cross their fingers because this being an all time terrible offseason is absolutely a possibility.

One more thing about Mailata that I'm probably overthinking is his mental state now that Stoutland is gone. He was Stoutland's pride and joy and you can tell how much Mailata loved playing for him. It's incredible what he's become. Will he be the same player without Stoutland here? I'm probably making something out of nothing. He's shown no signs of not being able to handle adversity, but at the same time, the man who molded him into the player he is today is now gone.

We just throwing names out there now.

Cam Newton, Joe Haden, Ryan Kerrigan...what are we doing?

Dickerson retiring wouldn't surprise me one bit. I've been saying for some time now that it's probably time to move on from him, if not this year, then next. He's never going to be healthy again. It's amazing he's made it this far carrying that much weight on those knees and ankles. All the credit in the world for his toughness and ability to play through injuries, but we've reached a point where despite the effort, a hobbled Dickerson is creating a weak spot on the OL. We all saw what a difference just having a healthy Toth being able to move was an upgrade.

Not that players don't have lives outside of football or like it's taking away anything from his performance on the field, but he seems to be trying to build a social media personality with his home renovations. He seems to be really enjoying it and having fun with his wife doing that. He's already a "celebrity" so he has a leg up on anyone else trying to make it as "influencer".

If there ever was a year to draft an OG, it can't get as plug and play as Dunker. He's the kind of guy you draft, put in the lineup and forget about.

Reminded me of this for some reason lol

It's getting dangerously close to a tank year

Have you met with Thai immigration lawyers yet? If not, I suggest Siam Legal. The Elite (Privilege) visa is our choice. Just hope it's still available when we want to move there around the same timeline as yours. Suggest you stay away from the retirement visas. We are looking at Chiang Mai region for May-Dec then southwest along the gulf for Jan-April. Farmers burn their fields in the north from Jan- April and it can be a a bit smokey at that time.
