We get comp picks. I would rather have a GM that is aggressive in roster building.

roll You're claiming Howie isn't aggressive in roster building?

yeah thats the obvious elephant in the room. Now you need to repalce an edge. So keeping that comp pick will be tricky.

Chubb wouldn't count against the formula because he was released.

My guess is Chubb. Doubt Howie gives up another 3rd rd pick to get Greenard who wants a new deal

How much did his price just go up after JP

That makes Goedert pretty affordable doesnt it? Give him 30M of it guaranteed, 10M of salary spread over 3 years is only about 3.3M in cap space. Prorate his 30M bonus money over 3 years plus probably 2 void years so 5 years total, youre looking at minimal dead cap on the end of that deal as well.

I don't think they are really comparable

One is a young guy who was mostly depth but has some upside. The other is older and established.

I know people are upset that we've been quiet, but you're forgetting that we already made a splash. We're paying Aaron Donald money to an above average DT who plays 39 snaps a game!

Kidding aside, this is what happens when you have young, good players that need money. It might suck now, but it won't suck keeping Davis (already taken care of) Coop, Q, Carter, etc

With the cap going up some teams that suck have way too much money to screw it up for all the other teams

Yep, crazy money being spent...

He's trolling bro

Honestly this probably for the best. So many reasons on paper to re-sign Phillips, but deep down it felt like the wrong move

He also disappeared later on after making the big splash

Unless I struggle with reading comprehension that's exactly what he isn't saying

It's been an hour. When I saw the cap space rising that much the first thing I posted was dumb teams are going to screw it up for the rest of the league and they are. There isn't much he can do.

Fans are never happy.

They used to need to "make a splash" in free agency because they drafted poorly especially on defense.

Now: they've drafted so well they built a championship defense with young stud players and the "problem" is choosing which stud players to keep. The "splash" was the drafts over recent years, which is the right way to build a team. Free agency is a supplement, and occasionally you make a "splash" for the right player, not reach every year and overpay.

You want to see extensions for in house great players.

Simple use first pick on edge in an edge rusher draft. Go earn your paychecks

I kinda hate playing the comp pick game. I understand the value in it, but it seems so passive to avoid signing FAs just so maybe you get a decent trade chip a year from now

Howie banking on Davis to keep improving since he does contracts based on potential. Though Davis also disappeared during stretches of last season 🤷‍♂️

I think this one will bite him later on

Yeah...

but if they want Pitts at TE, or some sort of splash move.

I dont think Phillips day 1 signing is instantly going to change how Howie approaches this entire FA period. If theres a way to get better, hes not gonna stop himself because of that comp pick.

We may or may not lose Goedert, we will probably let Dean go. But we plan to re-sign a lot of our guys so its going to be hard to sign less free agents than we lose. And then, keep them all at bargain bin prices.

That's not true, I've been happy twice in almost 64 years

Keep in mind the comp picks give trade up ammo that in the past has been used for great players.

Maybe, but the point was that fans are going to complain that we aren't doing xyz, but by not doing so we can keep our own good/elite players.

He still can make moves it's been an hour. They should be getting a 3rd for JP next year, right? I have no problem losing the comp picks for Dean or Blank if they want to sign someone, which I think they need to, but this is proving more than ever most of your roster has to be built through the draft and the 2nd level FA vets. Howie is being smart.

That's it KC resign old travis

I believe the eagles planned on paying pretty good money to Phillips. Now that hes gone youre either gonna see a greenard trade, or theyll use that money to make a splash elsewhere.

Could be a CB, S, WR, TE...

I'm fine with walk away numbers but you need to get better at some point. Draft has good DEs but need OL too. Let's see. Howie will do something

I think that's a good way to look at it. The Eagles just got 20 million to spend on the secondary or TE or WR from players cut by other teams so they won't count against the comp

This is how I feel about guys already under contract that want more and hold out. What if you didn't play great and were getting a bag? Are you refunding any money? You agreed on a wage for the job, go do the job, then get your next contract.
