Who is going to be Vic's replacement for 2027? You know that has to be in Howie's mind. I'm not accusing Vic of being one of them, but some egomaniac coaches, for their legacy, almost prefer things fall apart after they step down. Ideally, they'll work well together to keep that going.

It's pretty clear that Woolen didn't get the money he wanted and figured this was the right environment for a prove-it season to get the money he wants. It's invaluable to be the destination for that sort of thing. That happens to be exactly what our offense is not right now....not sure any player on that side of the ball, especially a skill player, would want to be here for a 1 year prove-it deal unless they had no options.

OL is a major issue, but the starting 5 week 1 is set. That means he has draft flexibility. Ditto WR depth, where the starters are set and the depth likely comes via a deep draft with innumerable later picks.

S/TE/Edge will all see players added to the roster before the draft. Will they be good? Probably not, unless they bring Goedert back. They probably won't be upside plays either. It's probably going to be aging or injured guys who have played major snaps in the league and can safely be inserted into the lineup...but cheap enough to be transitioned out midseason by their premium rookies, deadline trades, June 1 cuts, etc.

Draft is for adding the real talent. FA is for filling holes with middling talent so that you have the flexibility to not miss out on real draft talent while hyper-focused on need.

Two of the most perversely helpful draft picks in franchise history were Danny Watkins and Marcus Smith. Danny Watkins is AR's fault, Marcus Smith Howie's.

They taught Howie the perils of drafting with tunnel vision for need.

They need AT LEAST one high level backup offensive lineman with starting experience, if not two. Their starting LG, C, and RT are all coming off of injury plagued seasons and it had a massive negative impact on the offense.

I'm not that concerned about WR but it certainly couldn't hurt to add someone since the only backups they have are Cooper, Wilson, and Covey, none of which are locks to make the team let alone be an adequate 3rd receiver.

If they don't add a legit edge rusher and starting TE it will be a major issue unless the absolute right guy falls to them at 23. They are probably going OL at 23 anyway. Regardless they tried this strategy last off-season at edge rusher in particular and what ended up happening? They needed to go out and trade a 3rd round pick for someone.

They can probably get by with Mukuba and a JAG at S since they now have Q, Coop, and Woolen which is probably the best CB trio in the league. That being said, right now Sydney Brown is a starter for this team and I don't want him on the roster at all. He is honestly one of the worst safeties I have seen on the Eagles in years.

It’s just covering their bases on depth. They have a blocking specialist and a receiving specialist.

Now they aren’t forced to go for a particular type of player.
