My spelling and grammar is pretty crap, but there is one thing that drives me nuts. People that don't know the f'ing difference between lose and loose. They are two completely different words with different pronunciations. How these mouthbreathers survive in society, I will never know

Warning, rant coming about the joys of home ownership (although some of you will likely take pleasure in my pain). I realize that many here have it much worse, so apologies in advance. Some years back, after an extremely heavy rainfall, there was rainwater all over the toilet and floor of our downstairs bathroom. The belief was that the heavy rain backed up behind some leaves on the roof high enough to flow over the edge of the vent cover on the roof. Leafs removed, freak occurrence, likely won't happen again. It did, but only once or twice, always during extremely heavy rains. Fast forward to early July, return from our week at Disney and the hardwood floor in the downstairs bathroom is buckling. Didn't rain at all while we were gone so we know it wasn't the rain, no sound of water behind the sink so it must be the toilet seal. Call the plumber who comes and removes the toilet, seals fine. He also listens for water behind the sink, nothing, maybe the humidity from the toilet water, coupled with the door being closed all week, caused the buckling. I look underneath the house and the subfloor is obviously wet but no sign of leaking water so it should dry. Fast forward a few days and I decide to pull the A/C vent cover out of the floor just to look at the edge of the subfloor to make sure it's drying. It's not. Not only that but there's actually standing water in the A/C duct, then we notice some water standing on the tile on the backside of the wall. Listen behind the sink again, water dripping. It's the hot water pipe leaking so I turn off the water at the hot water heater and it stops. OK, we'll have the plumber come fix it asap, turn the hot water back on and the fitting blows, water spraying everywhere behind the wall. Turn it back off, plumber comes the next day and fixes it. Problem solved. I wish. Next day wife is in a closet above that bathroom, pulls a box away from the wall and the wall behind it is wet and covered in mold. Pull more stuff away, more wet, more mold. Call contractor he goes on the roof, hole in roof water just draining in behind the wall everytime it rains. He fixes it. Couple more rains, walls not drying, call him back. He pulls siding off outside and there's been a problem ongoing for years, flashing not high enough, gutters not done right, f me. He fixes it all, I start to feel better about things. Wrong move. Come downstairs the next morning and there's a wetspot in the kitchen ceiling. Call the plumber and a fitting in the ceiling is leaking. We decide rather than keep replacing the fitting one at a time and have the plumber come replace them all at once, bad or not. They're here doing that right now. Also the contractor had to rip out the entire subfloor beneath the bathroom and replace that. They're finishing that up today as well. Of course while the guy was here putting the 2nd coat on the new hardwood yesterday I walked outside and there was a big wet spot underneath my Jeep. Turns out the power steering pump needs to be replaced. Then, after more heavy thunderstorms last night walk downstairs and there's water standing on another area of the kitchen floor. F me. Good thing the contractors already here.... :furious:

Which leads me to a secondary rant, homeowners insurance. We'll be in the house for 24 years next week, been paying homeowners insurance the entire time, never once used it. Called our broker to inquire about covering all of this, which of course they would (minus the deductible) but it would likely lead to higher rates or cancellation of policy once complete, so we've decided to pay out of pocket. Wtf good is insurance if, after 24 years of paying in, you're still going to get kicked in the nuts for finally deciding to file a claim?

F them, take the insurance money. Even if the raise rates it’ll maybe be a few hundred dollars a year? You have to he getting hit with $10,000+ for all this stuff?

Schmoopie got me riding again.  Doing the "discover your powerzones" program.

However I'm a bit behind.  I've been absolutely destroying my bathroom the last few days and it's been taking up all my time.

Anyone else have a sleep number mattress?  Just got one last week - took a couple days to get it dialed in but so far I'm really happy with it.  Got their pillows too, which have been great.

Curious how long they hold up, with the air chambers inside and what not.

We talked about it but ended up getting a helix mattress and an adjustable frame.

Problem is the controller unit in the adjustable frame was faulty so it would just change positions randomly, sometimes in the middle of the night.  Called the company.  "Oh, we are so sorry to hear that.  There is a known issue with the controller unit but the newer model doesn't have that problem" and shipped me a replacement.  It arrives, same model <_< .  F it, I installed it anyway.  Was good for 2-3 months and the issue just started again.

I just got a mattress and the pillows - no adjustable frame or anything - just kept our existing platform bed frame.  Didn't feel like we would get enough use out of the adjustable portion to make it worth it.

We're old with bad backs.  The zero-G mode is quite nice for watching TV before bed.  Having the head of the bed raised slightly has helped with my snoring.

You aren't that much older than me  (wife and I are 41 and 42).  I get it though - lower back and hip pain/tightness was the main driver for me making the switch.  I don't really have an issue with snoring except when I drink heavily, which isn't that often anymore.  We do read/watch stuff on our phones while laying in bed for a bit, but I typically just add a second pillow.

Still - only a week in - things could change over the next year, but for now I'm very pleased.  Going from the OG Casper mattress to this has been pretty amazing  it's pretty cool to wake up and see what your heart rate/HRV were and how often you tossed and turned.

So you are seeing a measurable difference (such as heart rate) with it?

Oh, one more feature on the adjustable frame that was an afterthought that I used this weekend: Massager.   You can set the head, foot or both  to vibrate and it does this up and down pulsating thing.  On Saturday I was swinging a hammer for about 5 hours busting up a tile floor and at the end of the day I was in pretty rough shape.  Turned it on and it definitely helped.

It also lights up underneath with the push of a button. Pointless I thought until I accidently dropped my phone at 2 am while battling insomnia.  Used it instead of turning on my bedside lamp and risk waking up schmoopie.
