There's no way Kyle Allen will be able to hold down the job. I wouldn't be surprised if Alex Smith gets some playing time at some point too.

Smith is actually now the #2. Haskins was demoted to third string. He's done there.

I dont know what Alex Smith is working with leg wise, but Alex Smith scares me. Haskins and Allen does nothing for me.

I like Smith.

Well Smith has been promoted to 2nd string. Haskins is 3rd. So he's one hit on the QB away from being the starter.

I'm really starting to like this guy.

I'm still working on my review of Mailata but I can say one thing for sure: he can get to the second level with effect about as well as anyone I've seen.

Looking forward to reading your review, JR.  Thanks for taking the time to do so.

The bubbles were for the playoffs, where you only had 2 or 3 games a day for the NHL and the NBA is a lot easier to play on any court at a complex such as Disney. The players were all locked down inside the bubble for 2 months.

The NHL had two bubbles, one for the western conference, and the other for the eastern conference. This made it much easier since all these teams were playing each other in the playoffs. The NHL even lost money while playing in the bubble and as of now are not planning to do that for next season which is expected to start January 1st.

The issue with the NFL is you have 32 NFL teams in different cities/states. Each city/state has different rules as far as how they are handling COVID. You have some NFL teams that are more lax about it, like Tennessee, and others that are more aggressive with it. It would be difficult to have a bubble like season + playoffs for the NFL. You would have to find an area that has at least 8 NFL quality fields in close proximity, and even then you would have to play 2+ games on the same field every week.

I would love for there to be a full season for the NFL, but with what is happening right now it is turning into a disaster pretty quickly. They are talking about how Tennessee would have to forfeit their game and give the Bills a free win, while the Steelers lost their bye week. Gilmore just tested positive and was playing in the game on Monday. Who know's how many from KC/Patriots will test positive over the next 5+ days. The NFL can still turn it around just like the MLB did, but they need to be much more strict and hammer teams that are not following the rules.

If the Titans were this dumb they absolutely deserve to forfeit.

indeed. On at least two plays he blocked two guys. Got out on a screen, too. Drove a guy about 10 yards downfield.

Watching the game, and now the highlights, he reminds me of  . . . a taller Jason Peters a decade ago.

What's amazing is a guy that size hitting LBs and DBs downfield, that's a tough block for experienced veterans, and shows you the tremendous athleticism that goes with his size.

Imagine when he grows up!

Well, one was the two-point conversion. That was certainly good. It's a work in progress, Bo.

Reich was better at this than Doug is.  Running plays: Remember how they used to bring the TE across the formation, set outside the tackle, the bring him back across post snap on running plays to block down on the DE so the tackle could pull?  The broadcasters would talk this up so much, show replays of it and how effective it was.  Id have to truly re-watch games to see if we are still doing this, but I don't see it pointed out at all.

Sometimes Frank would put 2 men in motion pre snap then have a WR coming across the formation and snapping so they have a running start.  Just gets the defense moving and thinking and making adjustments.

Most of this season I watch as defenses barely move at all.

I believe you are not allowed to have two men in motion at the same time. Illegal procedure. You are right about the TE; the problem is that neither Ertz nor Rodgers nor Butler can make that block. They're just not big enough. Sending a 225-pound guy to block a 260-pound (and up) guy is a good way to get him killed. Goedert is missed more on running plays than passing plays.

OTOH, there was at least one play where Mailata pulled and went across the formation with speed. It was an influence play, because the Eagle ran the read-option into the space that Mailata had vacated. A really neat play design. Mailata is so fast that I expect him to be running the power in the next week or two. usually we run it with Seumalo pulling. He's out of course, but having a tackle who can move like Mailata is clearly giving Stoutland ideas.

99% of discussion with the offensive struggles revolves around 3 things: poor personnel available, Wentz, and Doug's scheme/playcalling.  We can argue which came first (IMO, it's personnel) or which is the biggest problem (IMO, they have all dragged each other down at various points)...but let's take the 20,000' view and look at the synergy of all 3 for a second.  Through 4 games, the Eagles rank 32 of 32 teams in yards per pass attempt.  They rank 32 of 32 teams in team passer rating.

Now, you can dismiss all you want due to just a 4 week sample size in a COVID year, but ranking 32nd in anything is a big problem, especially when it is the pass, which the NFL has basically deliberately selected as the primary way to win championships.  But let's look way beyond 4 games; let's look at the last 3 years.  This will be the 3rd consecutive year in which the Eagles leading receiver, by both yards and receptions, averages 10 yards per catch or worse.

When the same thing happens for 3 consecutive years, it either means they are doing it by design, are not prioritizing it, or are too incompetent to fix it under the present leadership.  Not sure which of the 3 you want to call it, but this offense, overall, is here to stay.

And that's why we drafted him.

Not many guys who back for year 4 after 3 productive years, so that record may stand for a while.

Likely.  It'll likely need to be broken by a true freshman standout, that's forced to play 3 years before entering the NFL draft and he puts up crazy numbers all 3 years.

The NFL and the MLB are following similar protocols.  The difference is that the number of people involved in the NFL is more than double MLB.  That said, there hasn't been 'much' for the NFL.  The difference is that the NFL doesn't have the luxury of playing doubleheaders to make up missed games.  A missed game is a big deal in the NFL.  In MLB, it was a case of... "ok, we'll play two 7 inning games and call it good."  Could you imagine an NFL game being called at half-time and then a second game happens immediately after that and they play 2 30 minute 'games'?   What a nightmare.   At least MLB had the rain shortened games tradition of '5+ innings' is an official game rule to fall back on.  And to limit it, they also just had rain 'suspended' games rather than throwing away the 3 or 4 innings that might have been played before the rain hit... which is something that they should carry forward.   A team that has pitcher E throwing and gives up 8 runs in 2 innings needs to be penalized for it, not rewarded with the chance to start that game over with pitcher A starting the next game with a fresh slate.

Pre snap you can do 2 in motion, at snap only 1 and can't be moving forward.  The read option TD was a nice play.

All the TE has to do is get in the way of the DE, not a sustained block.

Amidst all the Mailata hype, I keep thinking about him at RT.  If Dillard can be salvaged, then Dillard/Mailata future bookends might be pretty good.

Lane Johnson's health and availability are starting to deteriorate.  It's easy to talk about trading guys like Desean, Malik, Ertz, and even Cox/Brooks for juicy picks.  And that's why they won't be traded; no one is giving up high picks for them and their contracts.  You aren't getting something for nothing.  If you actually want to get a really good draft pick and clear cap $$$ off the books, then you need to rip off a band-aid.  This offseason, after Lane comes back and plays at a high level, Lane might be a good nominee to be that band-aid to rip off.

1st play they bring the TE across to block the DT.

Is it the protocol or the apathy of players? What sucks is you can have the best precautions in place, but if people don’t give a sheet and spread it around, it’s all a moot (moo if @VaBeach_Eagle is reading this) point.

Pittsburgh is undefeated but they’ve faced 3 terrible teams for combined records of 1-11 (NYG, DEN, HOU) I think we get the job done again on Sunday

Eagles 27

Steelers 24

It was a nice play and Mailata sealed the DT on that side. It was not the play I was referring to where he pulled across the formation, though. That was five Eagle plays later. The same play with different line action. 10:52 in Second Quarter.

I remember when Reich/Defilip were here, two things happened...

once a game I went, Whoa... I never see that before, or that was cool

and 3-4 times a game we got a huge chunk play where the defense was absolutely lost.

Since they left I think, combined ive said those thing 7 times

I feel the same way.

I might, if Carson didn't get sacked eight times in the first game. Kind of limits the playbook if you don't want to get your QB killed.

I mean, 2018 they had zero run game led by Josh Adams and the top receivers were Ertz and Alshon who are not burners. 2019 your top receivers were two TE's and a RB. 2020 we have receivers catching TD's from schools I didn't even know had a football program.

The last 3 years has mostly been personnel problems, and that lies 100% on Howie for the roster he has built to help Wentz. Doug can't call plays if he doesn't have the personnel to execute them. Wentz can't throw for big plays when they don't have the personnel to get open deep. This is a Howie problem.
