Because everyone else in those position groups aren't as good. Which, for LBs, is really saying something.

I think it's more a matter of inexperience and an abbreviated offseason - guys like Taylor and Bradley aren't NFL ready right now, which shouldn't be a surprise. And Edwards is hurt.

Of course, and experience is a huge component to being good. I was referring to how good they are now, not commenting on how good they may be in a year or two.

Technically that mistake cost us 2 timeouts. The first to stop the clock after that 1st down play. The second after the 3rd and 1 to stop the clock when we had to hand it off to Sanders to pick up the first down (that Hightower should've picked up in the first place). Crucial mistake compounded by the awful effort in the end zone on the deep ball. He's getting way too many snaps for my liking.

Yup. Last week he led all Eagles WRs in snaps and had what 2 catches for 19 yards???

People always railing on jjaw for getting a ton of snaps and doing nothing or saying fulgham is only doing well because he's being force fed the ball yet hightower is playing a ton of snaps and doing very little with them.

I keep waiting for him to have a break out game or catch a bomb and maybe he will but so far he's looked like an overwhelmed overmatched rookie who without injuries probably wouldn't be playing as much.

Fitting that JJAW'S only reception he went to the ground in bounds with 0 time outs and less than 10 seconds on the clock right before halftime.

You mentioned it (I think) but I think he would be a better #3 than Ward. One thing I for sure think is that JJAW needs to be gone if that's what's needed to make room for Travis. Also I'm not sure why a lot of posters suddenly hate Hightower. Did I miss something yesterday?

Hightower failed to get out of bounds and cost us a critical timeout (that cost us a least 3 points). The lack of a timeout made Arcega-Whiteside-Whiteside's catch irrelevant. He also dropped a ball in the end zone (that cost us seven points).

Honestly, I have no interest in seeing Djax and Alshon come back for a few plays/games. It does nothing to help this team long term. Continue to play the young guys: Ward, Fulgham, Hightower, Watkins ETC. we need to know if we have something in them by end of year.

Similar with Oline: Mailata, Herbig, Driscoll and Dillard (when healthy)  Let em play, we aren't winning anything this year anyway. Let Lane, Brooks and Seumalu Get healthy before we insert them back into the lineup. Then next year you may have some good options you feel good about.

The defense? Still and utter mess- realize we are limited in DB's but how do you not make some changes to cover Claypool at halftime?

They did make changes they covered claypool with Gerry😒

That play where JJAW caught it and time ran out was more on Wentz.  Should have made a quicker throw to get the 1st then spike it instead of taking a deep shot with no TOs left.

But he is a rookie, he needs some time, I doubt the Eagles were planning on counting on him that much. This years seems like deja vu, old arse receivers hurt and nobody seems to know when any of them are coming back.

I'd like to see Fulgham and Ward get the lion's share of the snaps going forward. I'm not gonna even mention Desean or Alshon for obvious reasons, but when Reagor is back, I think we can manage with those 3, if we lean on the run game a bit more.

Always comes back to Wentz bashing in here.

Claypool is a rookie and he doesn't look lost.

The he's a rookie and had a shortened off season can only be used as an excuse for so long when week after week we see other rookie receivers with shortened off seasons playing well.

Hightower needs to be better if he's going to play as many snaps as he has.

I don't know how Hightower will perform in the future, but right now he is a detriment to the team.

Ertz is a far bigger detriment right now

He's a solid #3/#4 type guy who you can count on to catch the ball.  He's not the problem.

you need those guys. he also will make smart decisions and reliably catch punts

BTW  Production

Travis Fulgham   2  games      12   209    2 TD's

Djax -        2019-2020 -     19     270    2 TD

Alshon      2019-2020 -     43     490    4 TD

Reagor        2 games          5       96      0 TD

JJAW        20? games       11    206    1 TD

Hightower   5? Games        7     57       0 TD

Watkins   ........................   0      0         0 TD

Ward       14 games?         50     426     3 TD

 Burnette   ? games            6     72       0 TD

And we dont need reminded about how bad our drafting has been with WR.  Meanwhile Guys like Claypool, Metcalf, Mclaurin etc.    At least we may have found a gem in Fulgham.

Travis Fulgham proved to me yesterday, the main issues arent wentz. Yes he has some issues, but he isn't the problem.

Both those plays def hurt us.  However I am not writing off a 5th rd wr because of those. It does however highlight the level of WR play that this team is playing with, (and Wentz is trying to make work)

Depending on how the rest of this season plays out, and we still have some really tough games ahead, if we finish with a top 10-12 draft position then my off-season dream right now would be to draft Ja'Marr Chase.  Having a starting WR trio of Chase, Reagor and Fulgham could be pretty damn fun to watch.  You could rotate them among the 3 WR positions to create mismatches.  They could each play the slot or on the outside.  Of course having 1 creative OC in the ballpark of Reich instead of an OC committee would be more helpful to properly using such a trio, but we can dream.

Most definitely not.  With the lack of WRs and the terrible injuries on the OL what could one really expect?  Maybe a Brady could have done a lot more.  The key is to dumb down and simplify the O just like we did at the end of last year.

Positives for the game.

1.) Wentz looking a lot better

2.) Mailata

3.) Sanders

4.) Fulgham

5.) We hung in there with an undefeated team in their home and with a few less bad calls might have won.

My question on Mailata though is he fools gold kinda like Vaitai was when we won the Super Bowl? Is he getting a lot of help that was kinda not noticed by us? @justrelax

I was watching Mailata almost every O play to see how he was doing.  They did give him help sometimes, either a TE or RB with a chip block, but most of the time he was just left 1v1 with the DE/OLB.  He did get walked back at least 3-4 times where it collapsed the pocket some and allowed that late sack where the rusher just blew past him with speed, but other than that he snuffed out the rusher.  Where he got into trouble was allowing the rusher to get inside him, get under him a bit and get leverage on him.  Someone mentioned Stoutland prefers his OTs to sort of sit back and 'catch' the edge rusher and that's pretty much what it looked like Mailata was doing.  I'd like to see him extend his long arms and keep the rusher from getting into him and then he'd be hard as Hell to beat.  Think he also needs to keep the rusher from coming back inside after he steers him wide of the pocket.  That happened 2-3 times where he pushed the rusher wide then allowed him to slip past and come back inside for a lane towards the pocket.

Went in knowing the Eagles werent going to win. Eagles arent good this year. Bet on the Steelers to win, both on a teaser and on the points. so yesterday was a good day.

If you bet against your team and openly root against them, you aren’t a real fan.

Claypool is a rookie who had 4 TD's against the Eagles yesterday.  Do we want to go over the long list of rookie WR making contributions while the Eagles continue to get nothing out of theirs?  I know that Carson overthrew Hightower on one throw.  Hightower was open.  Hightower is playing the most snaps out of any WR we have on the team right now and producing nothing.

Again, not trying to be negative but it's completely and totally frustrating watching highlights of rookies all over making plays.  Something has to change with the way the Eagles evaluate and add WR talent.  We shouldn't be reliant on 5th and 6h round picks on top of UDFA guys to be making plays.

We can all pat Howie on the back for Greg Ward and Travis Fulgham but let's not pretend that they would be here if he didn't constantly miss on draft picks.

He played really well.  You saw what I saw.  Bull rushes are getting the best of him right now.  He's letting the DE get in to his body rather than extending his arms.  The good thing is that his brute strength has let him pretty much fight off those rushes.  Once he learns technique he could be special.

Eagles are fielding the JV O-Line and Fulgham and Ward are the two best WR's right now. That is a problem. That is a Howie problem.

The roster construction the last 2-3 years has been bad and leaves Wentz with nothing to work with. Howie needs to go, Schwartz needs to go too. I'm fine with keeping Doug for at least another season, but Howie has put us in a pretty bad position. We are $70mm over the cap next, and we are going to have to cut/restructure some big contracts.

Ertz has been the primary receiving threat the last 2 years, and for whatever reason he is not doing anything this year. Not sure if he just can't get over the fact he thinks he needs to paid top dollar or if he has hit a wall and is rapidly declining. Either way, it is not going to help his case. I'm all for moving on from Ertz. Yes, he has been a great player for the Eagles throughout his career, but Goedert is younger and cheaper and more than capable of starting.
