Its football. Of course its going to be the highest rated thing on TV since the last footbal game that was played. 

This doesn't mean that ratings aren't down. 

For example The Walking Dead had decreasing ratings for years and was still the highest rated cable program for a long time. 

It can simultaneously be wildly popular while hemorrhaging viewers.

 

That said,  I don't think it'll lose a much as the NBA. NBA was completely over the top abs in your face.  Not as much has been published about things the NFL is doing.  And it wasn't so in your face this weekend.  Also,  players stood.
