Lane was a top 3 OT, playing RT, in our SB year.  Also, and I don’t care what @justrelax says, Lane eclipsed Peters as a pass protector long before anyone will admit, yet the offense thrived with him at RT.

In this passing league, you want 2 stud OTs.  RT doesn’t need to be limited to an unathletic grinder.

If they still think Dillard can be the lightning quick slick lads protector they hoped for when he was drafted, then Mailata won’t be wasted at RT.  We’d have bookends first the future.

Mailata is a FA after the 2021 season. Usually you’d want to lock that up as quickly as possible, but with our cap, Lane’s contract and Dillard’s first-round status, that will make it difficult.

It’s great we get to see Mailata play and hold his own this year. Sure would have been nice to see Dillard do the same.

Driscoll has looked really good. I think the knock on him was his arm length, but it hasn't been an issue so far.

Yup Lane is a stud, the eagles record with him out of the lineup is pretty bad. Having said that seems he's always hurt. That ankle has been bugging him for years. When he's on the field he's a beast I think him and Mailata make formidable book ends, now Dillard I'm not sure he can play guard, I sure as heck wouldn't take Mailata off the field for dillard.

Mailata's emergence makes it a lot easier to move Dillard though.  (Who the hell is going to trade for a LT from a team that needs a LT?)  He's an easier sell when the narrative is that he was unexpectedly eclipsed by a unique talent.

Now, I'm not going to stop beating the RT drum for 2 reasons; I hate to write off yet another first round pick.  And two, I think this team cannot truly rise again until it is purged of its SB veterans on mega deals who can't stay healthy...and by this time next year, everyone will realize Lane Johnson is in that group.

Wasn't Lane drafted to replace Peters at LT?

This place may riot if they let Mailata walk lol

I think Herbig has looked better than driscoll, and herbig is nothing special but he's surprised me. Driscoll is a scrapper but he's clearly outmatched on the outside.

Having said that not sure who the poster is referencing as the" Young" OL as Mailata is still young and has been far and away the most impressive young lineman.

I thought the ankle injury was just recent

He's struggled with ankle sprains since the chip kelly days, ankle and knees, never anything super serious and this year he had surgery in the off-season to clean up that ankle and apparently it's a bit tender. He's gonna gut it out and I'm sure if the eagles had the luxury they'd let him rest a bit and get right. He was playing on one leg against the steelers , and a one legged johnson is still better than a lot of guys in two legs.

It would so huge for us if either Dillard or Mailata could be RT.

Both as bookends would be a nice future IMO.

Lane’s got plenty left in the tank. If Mailata turns out to be real we'reset for awhile.

Reading this kind of stuff from those Twitter "scouts" really grinds my gears sometimes. All these guys do is talk fast, throw around relevant and irrelevant football jargon, and generally just try to sound like the smartest guys in the room. Mailata has been better than Driscoll.

Not sure what Solak is watching, Mailata looks like starter to me

If dillard was slated to be a starter this year then Mailata looks like one as well. Mailata has already shown in 3 games more than dillard did last year.

Dismissing Mailata as just getting a way with things because of his size is negligent. His size is an asset why not take advantage of it?

I agree with that.  Not sure if he's saying that, as is, he looks more like a backup than a starter of if that's what he projects.  It's hard to watch Mailata right now, given his background, and say he only projects as a backup.

If you want to say he looks like a backup in there, as is, that's reasonable.

But I do agree that he needs work in pass protection.  That's why I'm not ready to anoint him our all-pro LT of the future.  When he gets it done, it's because he's so strong and so massive.  Obviously, the technique and quickness, given his athleticism, will improve...but I still want to see it rather than just project it.  And if he's going to be a massive, athletic, overpowering OL, with a little rawness kicking back, sometimes that is a better fit for RT than the blind side.

Lane Johnson when he plays is one of the 3 best RT in the NFL. Even with the ankle injury, that's been true this year. If he can get right, he's absolutely worth his price tag.

His GP statistic might suggest otherwise.

That’s how I read it. Obviously there’s a lot of projection and room for growth left for Mailata.

It’s not even that crazy of a take. It’s the same thing Tra Thomas and Todd Heremans said about him. But people are going to take it personal because it’s Solak

Not to mention Mailata is also a year younger than dillard.

Dillard was 23 when they drafted him, finished rookie year 24.  He'll turn 26 in his first season of real NFL action (assuming he gets that next year).

These things make a difference.  It's a lot easier to project that you can put 15 pounds of muscle and strength on a 21 year old than a 23 year old.

IMO, being that age is a major knock against a first round prospect.

For comparison, JuJu Smith Schuster is only 23 and he’s been in the league for 4 years. Anyone 23 and older should at minimum knock them down a round if not taken off the board completely

I’m guessing was part of the reason why he fell to within the eagles range.

Probably could get a 2nd for Dillard. 2 years on the rookie deal, plus the option for the last year. Don't know what the 2021 draft is looking like, but it might enable them to grab a highly ranked C.

Not a chance to get a 2nd fir Dillard right now.  After a year of solid play at tackle, maybe.

Lifted from a PFF fantasy football article about starts/sits for Eagles-Giants. Fulgham’s grade vs man coverage is awfully impressive...

"The targets should continue to come Fulgham’s way and, hopefully for his sake, Jackson’s presence will lessen the likelihood of shadow coverage from James Bradberry. He owns PFF’s fifth-highest coverage grade among CBs, but Fulgham has proved he won’t back down in tough matchups. The Eagles’ wide receiver owns the fourth-highest PFF receiving grade this season. Considering this matchup further, Bradberry has a 71.1 PFF grade in man coverage, so it slightly favors Fulgham based on his PFF grade versus man coverage (87.7).”
