Just wonder why with the China balloon they didn't use this strategy, instead they let it float across the US for days but harmless children's balloons get taken out immediately. None of these others were large enough to cause harm to those on the ground.

I believe they noticed the Chinese balloon much earlier than when it became public and they could have done something about it before it got to Alaska or even when it was over Alaska unless it was only over populated areas the entire time. I guess there isn't anywhere in the US where it was over an area that had 7 miles of empty space.
