February 22, 20241 yr GPU supply can't keep pace with demand. A lot of that is crypto mining though, not sure I'm seeing where all this demand for these vague "AI products" is coming from.

Isn't the architecture of a graphics chip better suited for AI than a tradition CPU?

Yes but pundits and investors throw around vague generalities about AI products without referring to any specifics on what that means. Like are we talking about third party devices using nvidia chipsets or just straight off-the-shelf GPUs in a PC or server to run AI software or something else entirely? The latter is very similar to crypto minnig but as a percentage of market share, I bet mining dwarfs AI applications. And obviously the PC enthusiast space is still alive and well, keeping demand healthy and stable.

I mean, I don't know much about Nvidias operations, but "products" could also refer to services, training and/or software as well as hardware. I dunno, I do know the company and AI have been in the news for months now, they are selling something lol.

I dont think they have much revenue tied to services or software, it's almost all harwdare from what I recall but I haven't paid much attention in the last year or so.

Any day now….

Starfield apparently blows donkey balls so I'm probably not gonna even bother with that, I played that avatar game for a few hours the weekend it released and haven't touched it since, STALKER 2 is supposed to release later this year but I bet it slips into Q1 '25, so besides that, what else is even out there worth sinking any time into? Frostpunk 2 whenever it comes out but RTS games usually don't need much horsepower to max out.

I didn't need real powerful PC for either of those things, but I've been playing a lot more lately and my old PC was showing its age. When I upgrade electronics I trend towards overkill because I hate being dissapointed by something brand new. Edit Madden is on Gamepass now, I haven't played any sports games in years but started playing that a bit.

And there are some mods for extreme realism that will make even a 4090 cook.

Oh for sure, I loved that game, played every single main quest and side quest to completion. Was hoping for more than just a single DLC, but I guess it's better than nothing.

I was thinking of trying this now that the wrinkles seem to have been ironed out. I also picked up one of those nice big curved monitors and wanted to play something eye candy-ish on it.

It got a ton of hate at launch because of how broken it was on consoles, but it was just fine for me on PC and I finished it within a month from when it released which is faster than I've finished any game in probably a decade. I played it almost every night for a solid 2 or 3 weeks, I liked it that much.
