Jalen Hurts - shoulder sprain injury; expected for playoffs

I fully expect Doug to finally change his offense to help Hurts out lol

It was hard to tell against the Packers, because you probably can't game plan that much when you're just throwing a rookie in like that.  But he was running for his life as well, since the O line was terrible.

But Reid used to do that:  pass heavy with the starter despite struggling and O line poor play.  Running the ball and simplifying things would help a struggling QB...and he would do that for the backup.

Wentz needs heavy run plays and to be rolled out more.  So that's what Doug will do for Hurts.

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

Well it should be interesting to see what happens out there.

Wentz calls a lot of audibles out there and it does make you wonder if he is moving out of run play into a pass play more often then not.

In all honesty, I really hate what situations like these does to our fanbase. We get at each other throats and stuff gets ugly. Unfortunately it has become a recurring cycle: McNabb/Kolb, Kolb/Vick, Vick/Foles, Wentz/Foles, and now Wentz/Hurts.

I really hope we can find a great and consistent performing QB that we can hitch our wagon to for a good decade plus and just support him as a united fanbase. I really thought Wentz was that guy, I really wanted him to be that guy, but it is what it is.

Yesterday when asked how Hurts played, Doug just said "ok."  Then pressed for more he said he gave them the spark.  He was also critical of Hurts and said there's plenty of blame to go around to other players and coaches as well.  I get the impression this is not Doug's decision and he wanted to stick with Wentz.

He also repeated over and over how it's his decision alone and he wasn't going to talk about it with any other coaches or team leadership, then said he doesn't "need to ask" anyone.  They always talk about collaboration.  So it seemed like he was going out of his way to say it was his decision.  Who knows.

I tend to think there is a lot of meddling in Doug's decisions as well. It's not a great way to run things.

For the record even though I think this is the right move, it doesn't mean I'm predicting Hurts will be good. Honestly I have no idea what he is. He might be good, he might be horrible. I think it benefits the team to try to find out rather than watching Wentz stink up the joint for the last 4 games.

I honestly have been very patient with Carson the last 3 seasons since the Super Bowl.  But I can't defend this season.  What I saw from Jalen in that limited time was very encouraging.  It's sad this had to happen but I understand Doug's decision.  Jalen is a Rookie so expectations should be kept guarded but I think he did show something being thrown into the Lambeau game.   I support this team no matter what.  If Doug feels Jalen gives us the best shot over these last 4 than let's go.

Who are you taking, Jalen Hurts or Derek Carr?

Let's see what he does against a top defense. The O Line is in big trouble.

Hurts blows.

I hope he kills the Saints and proves me wrong, but I don't see it. He's a one read and run type of player.

If he lights up the scoreboard and we win, I'll buy his jersey.

I expect he'll use a few more design runs but Doug has already said he was dialing up more bootlegs and such and Carson was opting out of it at the line. We'll see against the Saints but a mobile QB masks the abysmal line play to an extent.

Right, sensible people don't expect too much and know that they are looking for a spark and also probably to evaluate the young QB.  It's like political partisans that have some weird bias for their QB.

This reminds me of 2012 when people just wanted to see Foles play to see what he had.  We knew what they had in Vick, people just wanted to see Foles get playing time to evaluate him.  In a losing season, it's a good opportunity to get Hurts NFL reps and game film and experience to work with in the offseason and see how you go from there.

At this point yes. However, I will be fine with whatever decision the team makes. The year of covid with no fans in the stands is not real football. Carson was benched because he was inefficient. A good pass rush will do that. Look at Brady, and Mahomes, they lost games when they were pressured. Even a good QB will struggle in the face of constant pressure. Hurts can escape pressure with his speed. So he may be the best answer and in these meanlingless games he should proably start so the most sacked QB in the NFL can stay healthy for next season.

At some point though you have to prove that you can beat that pressure to back defenses off. That's what the greats/elites do. Wentz isn't the first QB to have OL troubles or lack of weapons. Frankly I expect more from someone of his caliber and those expectations are warranted given the resources we gave up for him and the resources we are paying him.

All of this points to Roseman's incompetence. They gave Wentz a huge guaranteed contract when he didn't deserve it. Then they realized their mistake and spent another high pick on a QB. He just doesn't know what he's doing.

This piece by Spuds makes it seem like it's only for the Saints game

Yeah. It sounds like it will be a week to week decision. Hurts first game is against the top ranked defense. It's going to be a long game. But at least one game off for Wentz should be beneficial.

I’ll take one read and run over:

”Is my tight end open? No?... how about now? Still no?... let me check my tight end again...*sack*”

The compounding injuries made this move look much worse. Sucks but if you're spending that much money it's to the sacrifice of the surrounding cast. Which means the QB is expected to carry the team a bit if you're allocating that much to the position. Well... here we are. Brady understood this which is why he took team friendly deals later on albeit much to his frustration when they stopped surrounding him with talent leading to his departure.

lol... he's only going to have time for 1 read. This is exactly what we need at this point lol.

I'm a saints fan and will be the first to say, hurts will most likely look like a hall of famer when he plays the saints,  quarterbacks in their first start always do but, i watched a little of some eagles games this year and I think this is the right move for your team. I watched a couple throws by Carson Sunday and immediately thought, what the hell was getting looking a6

It also makes it less likely that Wentz gets hurt in these garbage games if he is still the future

Don't you guys have a top defense??

Yup. When a reporter asked doug why Alshon was playing Pederson took a deep breath looked at the ceiling shook his head and said well we have 5 active WRs and they all play...

Just reading his body language one could tell he wanted to say, I didn't make the call to play jeffrey howie did, or something to the effect of that.

Doug looks done, he looks frustrated not with just the losing but that he's taking the brunt of the blame for it when he's not the one making the decisions that lead to it.

Both QBs are garbage. Cant believe these idiots drafted Jalen Hurts in the 2nd. This is why this team is where it is now cause of picks like this.

Judging Hurts before giving him a chance

If all of this is micro-management from above I feel sorry for Pederson. Nothing worse.

Honest question, did you watch him in college?

Can't be any worst than Wentz has been this year.

Seasons over let’s see who stays, who goes.
