Next day he came to the park and ran out on the field wearing sunglasses and a wig! Broke the ice and the fans loved it! There is a right way and a wrong way to Handle Philly fans....
October 4, 20222 yr I'm an Eagles fan, not really a "philly" fan, so I find Philly fans obnoxious at times lol. If it weren't for Cunningham, I would've been a Bears fan since I'm Chicago with everything else (white sox, blackhawks). Anyway, I think Donovan handled being booed well. He called out the fans for doing it, and there's nothing wrong with that. Andy Reid really screwed him over with bad picks, and then getting rid of him once he finally had decent WRs (Djax/Maclin) and a prime Shady.

A grown man actually is wearing that shirt .. on national television sitting in front of paintings of himself....that's beyond cringe worthy I thought it was hilarious, and these people bring it on themselves. Hurst hears the chatter; he knows the amount of unreasonable negativity spewed his way by the detractors. If that didn't exist, the hoodie wouldn't ring true. A+ troll job.

Again, if people weren't constantly throwing shade in his direction, there would be little compulsion to wave in their direction.

He is literally the opposite of his words constantly. Once he runs out of platitudes, he seems to be rather self centered and arrogant as hell.

I'm confused, because I thought great players were fueled by criticism. Why is that a bad thing with Hurts?

A lot of players do use it as motivation, and it can be powerful, but I think McNabb was obsessed with it to the point that it became a distraction in its own right. It affected his attitude and relationships in a negative way. This is an interesting place to have this conversation, because I think that so far, Hurts has shown the ability to walk the line of being fueled by the haters but not being so caught up in it that its making him lash out at the fans and force things on the field to the point that he wilts under the pressure.

Just about every interview he ever did, with increasing frequency during the later years of his career and in retirement, he never missed an opportunity to bring up being booed at the draft. Granted, he was often asked questions that brought it up, but he always fell for it, never deflecting or downplaying it and using it instead as opportunity to act aggrieved.

Brady has said in interviews that he was insulted by how late he was drafted and took it upon himself to make every team in the league regret not drafting him when he played them.
October 4, 20222 yr Brady literally did an entire documentary series about how much of a chip on his shoulder he had. Jordan’s entire career was fueled by what he internalized as outside criticism. Moss scorched Dallas every time for passing on him and made sure the world knew it. Lane still won’t shut up about the top 100. Our entire Super Bowl run was based on the outside world thinking the team wasn’t good enough. It’s what athletes do.

I think it's a unique case with McNabb because he was heavily criticized during his entire time here. I don't know why tbh, but it just seems like the city, and parts of the fanbase never fully embraced him. I can remember meeting a few random Eagles fans at bars, or just out and about that shared they weren't fans of McNabb. Every time I asked why they just said "I don't know, just something about him I don't like." I don't really think the negativity from fans affected his play, but I can see how it may have hurt his relationship with the fans.

This is a good example of the criticism I mentioned. I've never really seen him bring it up to act "aggrieved," but merely to show how "passionate" the fans can be. Even when he continually states that he loves the fans/city in the same breath, they still manage to zero in only on the fact that he brought up being booed, and scrutinize him for it.

Yeah, I can't say for sure if it affected his play on the field, but "choking" is often the result of pressing, of forcing the issue in tough situations and it coming back to bite you as an INT, stalled drive, etc. For some, this is just in their DNA, but I think it's reasonable to question whether frustration or anxiety over how he was treated or would be treated following a loss played some role in his poor performances. I mean, this is a guy who won a couple of bowl games with the spot light on him as one of the best NCAA QBs of his generation. He didn't get drafted over questions about his emotional fortitude and psychological makeup, but it would seem that playing in Philly somewhat broke him mentally.

I think his poor play at times was simply due to having poor weapons on offense. I won't even bother naming the scrubs lol. And to be fair, after seeing what Reid has done during his time in KC, I blame all of the big game "choke" jobs on him.

All 3 (actually 4) Super Bowl INTs were pretty awful and can be pretty squarely blamed on the QB, from what I recall.

But we went into NFC championship games with McNabb rushing back from injury, getting his ribs fractured in another, and not having Westbrook available in one. It's been a while, so I forget all of the circumstances, but I just know those losses weren't really all on Donovan, plus our "elite" defense played like trash in some of those games. The Super Bowl loss sucks because they were up at the half and lost. There were so many factors involved in that SB loss which lead to us being disappointed. Pinkston is having the game of his career and then sits out the entire 2nd half with cramps. All of the alleged cheating by the Patriots. Our defense playing like scrubs in the 2nd half. And yes, McNabb had his turnovers (although that last INT was all on LJ Smith).
October 4, 20222 yr The last INT was more about making his stats look worse. Even if LJ catches it, he’s tackled with 9 seconds, and no timeouts. Game was over either way.
