I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

I thought the owner wanted no competition at the QB position ?

If that were actually true a healthy Flacco would be the starter by Week 4

What they say and what they do are two totally different things. I said this before i don’t trust anything they say. Last year when they drafted Jalen Hurts and publicly came out and said Carson Wentz was on board and happy with it. There’s been numerous reports from Albert breer and Ian Rappaport saying that was a bunch of BS now. The Eagles love to control narratives

I love Dave but he is the ultimate spin master which is in his job description.

If flacco is here to compete for playing time then this team is worse than i imagined.

I didn’t know anyone loved Dave

Dave Spadaro is both unlikable and bad at his job.

Clearly i should replace Dave. I will then proceed to get fired in a week for every article that rips them. But it would be an amazing week

That’s not bad. Nice vet back up and also not Foles.

Yup

Yup

What I find fascinating is that Flacco played for 1.5m last year.   He was horrible.  He's now a year older.

And the Eagles more than double his salary??  Look...I don't care.  The team sucks anyway.  It's not my money.  $3.5m versus what we should have spent on a backup QB is a drop in our cap hell bucket.  But it just is more evidence that the lights are on and no one is home.

I don't understand what thought goes into what they do.  We've got a 2023 salary cap, of which an embarassingly high portion of our salary cap will be invested in a collection of (by then) completely non-functional players.

The owner also said that Nate Sudfeld is a good quarterback.

Seems like a good time to use this

I actively dislike the Joe Flacco signing. I don't like the process. I don't like the money. I don't like doing it now.

At the same time, Flacco was not "bad" last year. He was better than Sam Darnold last year with a worse offensive roster than what we have. If this team signed Flacco to this money last year and just drafted Chinn instead of Hurts, we'd be so much better off.

The Flyers stink.

Myers and Sanheim should be sent down to the Phantoms.

Giroux is MIA - again.

Yeah but we needed a cheap backup QB with no experience last year when we were expecting to compete for a division and had cap space....

If there was a QB you could compare Foles to, it’s Flacco. So perfect back up for BDN!

But in seriousness.... not sure why but this move makes it feel like they’re leaning towards moving Hurts. Which wouldn’t surprise me because I’m still convinced DP was the one pushing to draft him.

I don’t think anyone said "no competition.”  That’s really different from "build around Hurts.”

Need to trade away Giroux and JVR (I’d say voracek but no one wants that contract with the years left). If they were ok dealing Richards and Carter in their primes you should be ok doing those two considering this team is going nowhere and they have value as JVR is having a good year and only a couple years left on his deal and Giroux has one year left and could still be a top 2 line guy on a cup contender.

Makes zero sense. Trubisky, who is younger and a better QB than Flacco at this point, signed for $2.5 million. And there is seemingly no more demand for FA backup QBs right now.

I’m almost positive the tweet when they said go with hurts said lurie didn’t want a true  competition

I have no idea if he is bad at his job or not.  100% agreed on the unlikeable part.  He's not a journalist, despite identifying as one.  His job is media relations and fluff.  Since I completely ignore him, I'm not sure if he does that well or not.

My guess is that he was a bit ahead of the curve back in the mid/early 90's with Eagles digest, PE.com, the EMB, and camp highlight clips.  For all I know, all teams had the same offerings, but I recall the Eagles being a little ahead of the pack there.  Now with instagram, twitter, and a more centralized NFL with regards to social media/highlights/training camp, he's reduced to just a PR spin guy...not an easy job these days; I'll give him that.

I remember when he came under some heat for saying the Flyers are a guarantee to always choke.  That was their organizational MO in the 90's/early 2000's (not choking...degrading the other teams in the city.  Well, maybe choking too).  Lurie was once (still is?) of the belief that their primary competition is the Phillies/Flyers/Sixers, not the NFC-East.  Banner took the heat on that, as did Spadaro on the comment, but that stuff comes from the top.

Agreed.

I’m starting to question the coaching. The defense is so porous and turnovers are routine.

Hart has given up four goals but he did not have a chance on any of them.

If Flacco is winning the starting job then we have major problems.

I think this is a move to solidify Hurts as the starter.  Bring in an older guy who hasn’t started for a couple of years and is pretty much a journeyman at this point.

I do agree with your other point regarding Hurts, though — I’m also convinced it was a Doug pick, under the recommendation of Weidl

So if Flacco was able to get $3.5M, does that mean it’s possible to obtain perfectly cromulent backup QBs for less than a second-round pick?
