But we attached dummy years to other restructures just to waste money on Flacco. Either way, we’re robbing Peter to pay Flacco.

I'm gonna be mad to see the Cowboys strengthen safety when the Eagles still need help.  I really want Hooker here on a prove it deal.  He still has a ton of potential.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

This is why it feels Flacco may be the starter... his guaranteed $ more than tripled. Wtf he was the backup for a 2 win team and has declined each year for at least 4-5 years.

Actually it makes no sense even if they want to start him.

They literally review every contract and it’s structure and the salary cap implications. They know.

In any event, at the end of the day it’s not some earth shattering bad decision. It’s clearly uninspiring, and a puzzling choice of using limited resources, but it is what it is.

Well I can't blame him for wanting to go with Hurts going forward after last season with how awful Wentz was and how he would refuse to practice certian plays and blow off coaches critiques.

There’s also the multiple rumors that came out of Doug’s‘s camp saying that he was OK being let go and fired. Brett Favre also said Doug was OK being fired and felt disrespected. to the point doug was fine not being here after 2020 before the season started. Also Doug gives them a bad list of coaches to fix the issues that the eagles leak out. You don’t think it’s possible doug knew they wanted to go with wentz and play the hurts card if he really didn’t want to be here anymore after leaking out what they did with his coaching suggestions? It might not have gone down that way at all but I think that’s a possibility based off the information we have been given

Gannon was there with him. If he didn’t want Hooker, I’m inclined to trust him.

Assuming he got a say in the manner and voted against it, sure.

thats true. And yet, theres probably no other player signing for this amount of money that we would want to sign for a long term deal anyway. Its better that we just signed someone to a 1 year deal. Regardless of how we got that money. Regardless of what his salary is. The damage is being minimized right now with 1 year deals. This is the only way we will free up resources in the near future to begin a true rebuild.

We’re at the stage of FA where lots of players have to settle for that kind of money and who would like a one-year contract to re-enter FA in 2022. And I’d prefer to sign those types of guys than a backup QB. Flacco has no future here.

And this isn’t the NBA, where you sign a one-year placeholder contract and the money simply goes away. We can carry over that money. We’re already setting cap space on fire by restructuring players and adding voidable years. And we did it for what? To give Joe effing Flacco $3.5M? You don’t see how that’s absurd?

Flacco was coming off of neck surgery last year when he signed with the Jets. That's why he was worth less then.

They literally signed another safety he had experience. It’s clear he had a say.

So you really think he’s worth triple now?!

I don’t think $3.5M for Flacco is a bad contract for most teams. For us, it’s really dumb. And comparing it to Teubisky’s deal it’s even worse.

Did I say that? I'm providing information after a bunch of people ignored facts.

21 minutes ago, ManuManu said:

Not only that, but Flacco does little to help the on-field product and he doesn’t have a chance to be part of the next winning window.

It’s largely a waste of money for a team that admits it’s in a rebuild.

If we had $20M in cap space so be it. But we cleared cap space (by eating future cap space) to sign a backup QB.

I don’t mind the fact that they signed Joe Flacco. My biggest issue with them was last year they sold us on the fact they couldn’t afford a veteran back up quarterback when at that point in time they were trying to compete and win the division. They sold us this bill of goods that we don’t have the salary cap space to afford a veteran quarterback so we had to go to the draft and take one really high that was cheap and had multiple years.

So the next year when we have less Cap space and fully on board with a rebuild they decide we have the money to spend on a veteran back up quarterback.

like it would make more sense to me what they said last year and did that this year. went to the draft and took a back up quarterback relatively high since they don’t have the cap space and they’re in a rebuild.

Agreed. $3.5M is fine for Flacco. I'm not sure what value he really brings us. I guess if Hurts really stinks, he's insurance so you can at least evaluate the rest of the team. There are also a bunch of former Baltimore guys in our FO, so I'm sure Flacco has received a lot of support there.

Theres been NFLPA cap numbers released before and the eagles still do whatever the hell they want. People have had a blast with that in the past. Then, it eventually came time to pay the piper. Now, theyre working to regain cap space. Theyre not going to do anything too wild. 1 year deals for a sucky team with little cap space, is really nothing to complain about.

The Eagles were just dumb. They acted like it’s impossible to sign cheap backup QBs, which is a lie. Winston was cheap. Dalton was cheap (and just got the Cowboys a good comp pick).

Howie and Co acted like you have to pay $10M for a backup QB. It’s obvious you don’t.

That stance was never defensible.

Not a Flacco fan or the amount of his deal. But it does bring a veteran voice into the QB room, which may have been the point.

They pushed dead cap into the future to give Flacco this one-year deal. How does it make sense to eat away future cap space to pay Flacco today?

It seems they have more holes to fill than can be filled through he draft so they needed to borrow some space. And likely felt it was better not to have to draft another backup QB already.

I don’t even think it was that they were dumb. My personal belief is they use that as a narrative because they knew people would buy into it so they could then draft Jalen hurts. I am 100% still of them belief the Eagles drafted hurts because they saw him as a potential franchise quarterback given time and they didn’t know which Carson Wentz they were going to get going forward. To me my belief is they wanted an insurance plan and that was a good way of using a narrative to cover up for the true intensions of that hurts pick.

Sure. Sign Brian Hoyer for the minimum then. Problem solved.

If we have a team with too many holes that can be filled, does it make sense to steal future cap space for a backup QB?

There really is very little that supports the Eagles decision to sign Flacco, aside from token veteran QB for young QB.

Maybe he wanted both? I’m not going to pretend to know

Yeah but it’s a pointless fact. Flacco hasn’t been good in 4 or 5 years.

@Iggles_Phan

My Hatch pepper seeds and paprika pepper seeds should arrive tomorrow.  Will be my first time growing Hatch peppers but they are NM Hatch peppers.  Great flavor.  Decided to grab some paprika after not being able to find smoked paprika for weeks.  My plan is to sun ripen and then smoke like my chipotles and anchos. It’s March and I am out of both chipotle and ancho so I will be increasing my planting this year of both.
Have you ever grown Brussel sprouts?  First year for those too.

Just now, LeanMeanGM said:

I guess it’s possible, but I would doubt it. Hooker supposedly struggled a lot in two-high coverage. And if we’re going to play single high, obviously he isn’t a fit with Harris.

Could have also brought in josh mccown back in to be the backup for less if you just wanted the token veteran. And he wants to get into coaching so he likely would’ve been cheaper and been like an additional coach for the staff.
