Analytics have their place but should not be a deciding factor in choosing a coach. That's probably how you end up with all these "smartest guy in the room" picks

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

We won a Super Bowl using analytics.

If we get rewarded now for a minority going somewhere else in a bigger role then I really don't want Duce as a HC.  Let someone else hire him as HC so we can get a draft pick!

Now we get to use minorities as bargaining chips!!!  Wonderful, nothing to see here.

This also goes back to Duce...if he was such a great candidate, why do we not hear of just one other team interviewing him to be an OC let alone a HC.

Reich wasnt known at that time as a strong OC.  At least I don't remember the hire being that talked about.  I'm sure there were some fans that felt Reich was a bad hire.

Many thought is was a boring hire in terms of offense but stabilizing as he had been a head coach and would mentor Doug in a way.

1+1 tells me Mike Kafka would be a bad choice for HC. There, analytics.

why would Jeffrey see Kafka as anything different than what he just fired?

google kafkaesque

Well I heard Kafka likes chocolate soft serve ice cream.  Complete 180 from Doug.

He is also more about toppings than doug. Yay jimmies

or Kafka Trap

Of the names I've read so far, the ones I'm out on are Arthur Smith, Todd Bowles, and Duce.

I'm intrigued by Jerod Mayo. I wonder if they could pull Jerod Mayo and pry Aaron Glenn from the Saints as DC. Turn the offense over to a college coordinator with a veteran NFL QB coach with coordinator experience (Pep Hamilton?).

This scenario wouldn't be my first choice, but in my opinion a far better option than the above names.

And the Rays lost the world series because of them. Like I said, they have their place. But it should not be a deciding factor

Honest question about Duce....OK so players like and respect him.  What does he bring to the table?  How has he made the Eagles better?  Is he innovative?  I just don't see it.

I'm not worried about the HC selection, Lurie has had 4 HCs, Rhodes, AR, Chip and Pederson.

All won, Rhodes burned out, AR had a great run and if his son doesn't get himself killed, probably is still the HC, Chip had a great start until his arrogance undermined him, Pederson had a great run and a SB before the Peter Principle caught up to him. None were disasters, like say Garrett and the NY Giants since Parcells or the team that is not to be named.

So I have confidence that Lowie will make a good pick, maybe not a great pick, but not a total screw up either.

I'm actually kind of surprised that Jay Gruden's name isn't more popular for at least OC consideration. I think he got kind of a raw deal in Washington, and was a good offensive mind.

That’s not the point. He was a strong OC. There is no denying that.

And he also screwed D. Vermeil and the Eagles in the process.

Is he the best OC in franchise history?

I think he can make the case for sure.

Maybe so. I think the idea is absurd that Doug saw how good he was with Reich, a strong OC, and decided he didn’t want that anymore.

Must mean he will run the  in the 2nd half of games

Ego can make people do things that aren't in their best interests.

Are you sure he saw it that way, though?  The guy wrote a book to take a victory lap

I think with the coaching search, the past dictates a lot of future direction.  Think back to Andy getting fired.  A lot of that was because the team felt stale.  Needed a new voice, new energy, and new thinking.

And Chip really filled that void.

Now, Chip got fired more because he lacked emotional intelligence than anything else.  Howie and Jeffrey learned that no matter how brilliant or inventive a HC was, if he couldn't lead his team (coaches, players, staff) it wouldn't matter.

In comes Doug - brimming with the emotional intelligence, but I think the pendulum swung too far away from the other stuff.

This time around, I think they will be looking for a blend of the two - someone who is inventive enough to utilize the talent on the team and create new looks and mismatches but also has the emotional intelligence to lead and create buy-in.

I think that's why we are seeing a wider net and considering defensive HCs too (though I'm sure an offensive mind is their preference).

I'd guess they are looking for vision, inspiration, creativity, and a plan.  And I'd bet they are most willing to sacrifice experience in that mix.

In regards to Chip it wasn't just that he was an a-hole that hates people.  His so called brilliance and innovation disappeared after a season or two to the point where he was running the same handful of plays every game as the offense raced to see how fast they could go 3 and out in that up tempo offense.   That final season all the fans knew which plays were coming as did the defenses.

I have no doubt that he saw the collaborative process with a good OC and wanted to continue that. He’s from the Teid style of promote from within.

Doug got pushed around his entire tenure here. What makes you think he has some huge ego?

How so? How was he pushed around?
