How so? How was he pushed around?

He couldn’t even hire his own coaching staff without micromanagement. He announced guys were coming back and the next day they were fired, making Doug look like a damn fool.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

With Coaching staff, he agreed with that when he was hired, Example, We carried Stoutland and Duce over into his staff.  If he didn't like that, he should not have accepted the job on those terms.

Secondly knowing he did not have that control, why would he be stupid enough to announce that? If it wasn't in his power, you dont make that claim.

Man the high ceiling posters here have flipped when draft choices didn’t reach that high ceiling in one year, kind of an unlikely scenario, especially given the injury plague from this season.  Add to that a firmly held belief in here that Eagle coaches not named Stoutland cannot develop players and Doug and Jim’s allegiance to declining veterans.  So Reagor, with a shoulder injury and a thumb injury requiring surgery is a bust because he has not reached his high ceiling.  Now experienced back up QB,  Hurts, is a bust because he played like he did at Alabama and Oklahoma for 3 1/2 games and did not reach his ceiling under Press Taylor.  Taylor is a bust because we knew he was green and an Uber athlete but he did not reach his ceiling.  Wallace did not become an all pro S in backing up Mills in one season by reaching his ceiling.  Hightower and Watkins did not change from somewhat flawed but fast body catchers into Pro Bowl WRs in one season.   So much for the low floor/high ceiling arguments we saw when @Iggles_Phanand I proposed Jefferson because many saw him as a high floor/lower ceiling type last year. Now every lower floor but potentially higher ceiling prospect won’t make it but this one season and bust response, especially for a team that since Lurie has owned them likes a patient growth approach to developing talent, just seems a bit of an overreaction to me.

Just because they helped him with his initial staff doesn’t mean after winning the SB they would continue to have that same say.

I for one still like Reagor (even though the odds of him being as good as Jefferson showed are slim to none). Hurts and Taylor were dumb picks from the outset.

FWIW, I listened to the Brett Favre Hour on SiriusXM this morning on the commute and he was asked about his friend Doug Pederson losing his job.  Of course, Favre was flowery in his praise of Doug and not so much the Eagles.  He said it seems like Lurie chose Wentz over Pederson, and it’s his right to do that.

When he was asked about the Troy Aikman comments in his interview with Michael Irvin — where Aikman said he spoke with Pederson after the firing, and Doug said he wanted to go forward with Hurts, and Lurie disagreed because of the financial commitment to Wentz — Favre said he hadn’t spoken with Doug since the firing, but shortly before then, and his response regarding Aikman’s comments were "I agree with all that”

It seems to point in the direction that coaching staff wasn’t the only rift between Doug and Howie/Lurie — but QB as well

Its hard for me to feel strongly about any of these candidates.  To me it 100% depends on the organizational structure.

Hopefully Lurie and Howie have done some reflecting and realize they need to get back to allowing the HC to do his thing.

That aspect of the hire will matter much more than who they select, IMO.  Id be fine with a number of these guys given the right dynamic.

Maybe so. I think the idea is absurd that Doug saw how good he was with Reich, a strong OC, and decided he didn’t want that anymore.

Doug may have felt he had to prove himself since it seems like a lot of players have given a ton of credit to Reich, especially the QBs. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If that's the case then Doug deserved to be fired.  To hell with these national guys, they don't know ish from shinola.

I love how this narrative is formed where everyone has all these great ideas that benefit everyone but the Eagles

Totally agree.  The head coach needs to be strong enough to take control of the 53-man roster straight out of training camp.  The coaching staff dictates the depth chart of players and informs the GM where the deficiencies are.  It’s then the GM’s job to fill in the blanks by whatever means necessary.  The coaching staff, in turn, should be consulted on who gets signed/extended long term, but that is the GM’s territory.

No more trading for a Golden Tate when the OC doesn’t know how to use him

No more trading for a Genard Avery to have the DC bury him at the bottom of the depth chart

I’d add on caplan yesterday on his podcast said wentz and doug hadn’t been speaking to one another for about a month. Not that Carson is innocent in any of this but clearly doug went to aikman and favre told him who he wanted and more information and likely had to know they’d air this out. Find it curious doug went to aikman and favre and he knew that would get leaked and wentz hasn’t said a word about doug being fired.

Doug wanting to move forward with Jalen Hurts, but also wanting to promote Press Taylor as OC, makes so little sense.

I think doug wanted to get fired ans wanted out cause he knew he couldn’t do what he wanted and lurie wouldn’t be on board moving forward with hurts with the financial commitment to wentz. I would love to know what wentz truly thinks of doug. I tend to think he believes doug isn’t all that smart and needs someone that puts him in an offense best suited for his skill set. Whether he gets better in another offense and that part correct or not is going to be determined until he is actually in a new one.

If you read Aikmans statement he uses the words I believe that Doug wanted to stay with Hurts. As far as Favre he hasn't spoken to Doug so how would he know anything.

I want to say aikman also said in the entirety of  interview on 105.3 that he has talked to Doug. I forget the show i was listening to on my way to work but they also claimed he has talked to Doug. They could be wrong i haven’t listened to the entire interview.

And likely this is one of the reasons Wentz might want out of here. What else can we blame Wentz for? Covid, world hunger, wars?

He did but then he said it was his "belief" that Doug wanted to stay with Hurts.

I doubt we will ever hear publicly, but my theory is taking the only WR he had chemistry with (Fulgham) off of the field to put the guy who’d been trashing him back on the field (Jeffrey) created a big problem in Wentz’s eyes.  Then benching him for Hurts without actually telling him created another issue.

Doug said they spoke after that game and Wentz was told Hurts was starting the following week.

I’m not blaming wentz for doug being gone. Doug is gone cause he didn’t want to be here anymore and he wanted his voice heard and not be pushed around by howie and lurie. The underlining reasons are just other issues that stem from the bigger issue that he wanted to have more power and be able to make his choices and decisions. Lurie and howie were like nah

"Jeffrey Lurie has paid a lot of money to Carson Wentz, and they’re on the hook with him, and can’t get out of that contract right away,” Aikman told Irvin, his longtime friend and former Cowboys teammate. "It’s my belief that Doug Pederson felt that Jalen Hurts probably [should be] the quarterback going forward. But how does that mesh [with Wentz’s contract situation]? I believe it all came down to how they’re going to handle Carson Wentz.”

Not saying you do, but a lot of people do. I quoted Aikman's statement form the Carson Wenz thread

Possible theory. I also kind of think doug and wentz really didn’t see eye to eye even before this year. I think wentz and doug dealt with it better but when wentz played poorly it boiled over to the point where caplan says they didn’t even talk to each other or very rarely. I find it curious to see how wentz feels if what aikman said about lurie keeping him cause of the financials. That’s not exactly ringing endorsement that he could return to prominence as the reason he wanted to keep him.

Does it really matter if Doug was fired because he wanted Hurts or if he wanted Press. Doug sucked in the last 3 years. He deserved to be fired. Plain and simple. If it didnt happen this year it was going to happen next year and just one year longer we wasted.
