The problem with that narrative is that every republican administration in my lifetime blew up the debt and the deficit.

Of course they did, and everyone knows the political arrangement of the last half century or so has been that the GOP got military spending and the Dems for social spending. But there are other ways to improve the functioning of government. I’d point to the regulatory environment specifically as something the GOP tends to be infinitely better at than democrats, for instance.
September 15, 20224 yr Ya know what else the GOP is infinitely better at than Democrats? Convincing the dumbest and most mentally ill among us that elections are rigged only when they lose and that attempts at subverting democracy are okay and should be encouraged. They got the market cornered on that one.

September 15, 20224 yr We already know they're now the official party of conspiracy theories but we can also say they're the party of urban myths too. I can understand how these sorts of stories (like cow tipping, toilets flush in the opposite direction because of the equator, walking barefoot outside in the winter can give you pneumonia, etc) would be tough to dispel in the pre-internet age, but it's hilarious how pervasive some of these things still are when they can be so easily verified with a 5 minute google search.

Quote Pence, who harbors his own White House ambitions and who has made the pro-life cause his life’s work, insists there is more work to be done to restrict abortion. The Indiana Republican made that clear earlier in the day during an exclusive interview with RealClearPolitics. "I welcome any and all efforts to advance the cause of life in state capitals or in the nation’s capital,” Pence told RCP when asked about legislation to institute a federal abortion ban. "And I have every confidence that the next Republican president, whoever that may be, will stand for the right to life.”
