Yeah, it’s kind of funny what people got upset about in 2012. The 47% quote. The story Romney’s son told about the family dog riding on top of the car and then throwing up. Binders full of women... Romney would have been a hundred times better than Trump as Predident.

Maher made this point, as have others - the left’s hysterical and disgusting portrayals of McCain and Romney as the anti-Christ helped lead to Trump. Savaging decent men as racists and autocrats makes you the boy who cried wolf when the racist, authoritarian imbecile actually runs.

I think a lot of that went to Palin. But I was a somewhat more casual follower of politics then. Romney was pretty aggressively attacked. Mostly gotcha stuff, like the binders full of women, but definitely doesn't help foster a climate of unity. That said .... The attacks lobbed at Obama despite McCain and Romney themselves not being the source were pretty vicious. Kerry was swift boated. And Hillary, well...

Very much so yet anytime any little dig taken at the left for their part in this mess they throw a full blown hissy fit.
April 8, 20214 yr Idk... I felt Romney was treated worse by conservatives than Democrats. RINO. And his Mormon faith wasn’t Christian enough, or something. But child’s play compared to stuff Obama dealt with... Face it, the left wasn’t going to be convinced to vote Romney against Obama in 2012. They like Obama. Bush was attacked more severely by the left (more than any Republican recently, save Trump), as a war-monger and being futile as the economy went into the toilet. It’s not like the attacks against Trump were ignored, they were simply ineffective. His supporters know who he is but they don’t care. This is why they like him. They weren’t lied to. We don’t know anything they don’t.

April 14, 20214 yr POLITICO Playbook: ‘A gaslighting chamber of insanity’: Moderate Republicans seethe at Biden https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2021/04/14/a-gaslighting-chamber-of-insanity-moderate-republicans-seethe-at-biden-492469 Quote It starts with what they see as some hardwired media narratives they can’t shake: that Biden is a reasonable, deal-making moderate and that Republicans talk about compromise but really just want to obstruct. It’s a perception that has given the White House all the leverage. "Biden is a horrible villain for us,” said the G-10 staffer, meaning not that he was an actual villain but that he was difficult to villainize. "There are deeply entrenched narratives that have some truth but are no longer totally true. Reporters believe them despite all evidence to the contrary.” They see a White House "constantly rubbing dirt in the face of Republicans” over the party’s lack of interest in bipartisanship while "passing as many partisan bills as they possibly can through reconciliation before they lose the House in 2022.” "Everything they support is defined as either Covid relief or infrastructure, and everything they oppose is like … Jim Crow voter suppression and evil,” this G-10 aide said. "And you constantly just feel like you’re in this gaslighting chamber of insanity. But it’s working.” Our latest POLITICO/Morning Consult poll suggests that Biden continues to hit the sweet spot in terms of highlighting popular measures, even on fraught issues like gun control. No wonder Republicans are frustrated. Some toplines: Sixty-four percent of voters support stricter gun control laws in the United States. Sixty-three percent of voters support Biden’s executive order to limit the spread of "ghost guns.” A plurality of American voters somewhat or strongly support (46%; 28% oppose) Biden’s executive order to increase regulation of stabilizing braces, which can turn a pistol into a kind of rifle that ordinarily would require stricter government controls. Seventy-three percent of voters support employees’ right to bargain collectively for workplace conditions. Biden’s overall job approval is 60%. Toplines … Crosstabs Basically, old Republican tactics of obstructing and frightening Democrats into backing down from their agenda through public support/pressure aren't working. Trump broke the Republican Party and Biden wins by just being a sane person in comparison. And on top of that, Trump's still throwing bombs at his own party from afar.
