Ok, so what are we arguing about?  The U.S. has been a country of immigrants and will continue to be one.

Yes, but not never ending immigration and there are absolutely periods of time--like the current one--where immigration should be highly scrutinized and drastically scaled back

Kind of like 1986 when Ronald Regan gave them amnesty.

Why?

Are you seriously this naive? Do you not know who Stephen Miller is at all?

If you see a tweet that says Trump called a political opponent a juvenile name, are you likewise this incredulous until you see video evidence?

Seriously, it's like I'm arguing with a child.

So a "pause" is slightly different than how the crazy lady had framed it, right?

She made is seem like he was talking in general terms and not addressing the current, specific situation we find ourselves in

I never assume anything until I read or hear it for myself, and I suggest you do the same.

You think youre making a point but youre not.

Just as you keep framing it as being "scaled back"?

Yeah, sorry, but a pause literally means to stop, not scaling back. Go get your shine box.

Why would you want to limit immigration when there’s so many businesses that need workers?

If our unemployment wasnt out of control

lol whut? There's a shortage of workers. The service industry can't fill positions

There are signs at almost every service place looking for workers, offering bonuses, etc.

Youre seriously the most disingenuous poster. Every time youre caught making a nonsensical argument, you immediately flip the board game over and start posting other disingenuous nonsense.

A conversation with you is just perpetually clarifying previous posts that would be obvious to a middle schooler but for you theyre confusing

The "scaling back" comment is my opinion.  I didnt say thats what Stephen Miller said.

If he said it should be paused at the moment, I somewhat agree based on my previous points.

But my main point is that the tweet that was posted is almost as disingenuous as a WGB post.

If they are STEM or highly specialized workers, Im all for it. I want the best and brightest here

But we shouldn't be bringing in uneducated, unskilled labor with unemployment so high and so many people out of work.

Lol we havent even gotten back to Trump levels of unemployment

The "shortage" of workers is not due to a shortage of employable adults.  Its due to many factors not related to unemployment.

You and WGB should just go start a thread where you argue semantics all day

Yet unemployment is still near 6%.  Explain

6% of the labor force out of work, yet a "shortage" of workers.  Hmm

Your first post on the topic of Miller advocating against legal immigration was spearheaded with a strawman argument about a "polyanna romantic view of the nation where we can just take in endless numbers of immigrantz" but now you're gonna lecture us on disingenuous framing?

GTFO with this horseshit. Hopefully that shine box comes with a mirror, you toothless rube.

Got it. So you agree with Stephen Miller that you want to stop legal immigration altogether for some nebulous, indeterminate period of time. Thank you for finally saying what's been obvious to us the entire time despite the rest of your word vomit.

Its currently at 5.9%. It was 5.3% when Trump took office. So no that doesn't amount to "out of control unemployment"

People that are out of work are out of work because they choose to be. We are pretty much at full employment.

I absolutely agree we should not be allowing uneducated, unskilled immigration until our economy is recovered and we have reached some sort of plateau with COVID/unemployment

It would be nice to talk with adults in here

Yeah you're clearly the adult here after that self-own of yours on disingenuous framing

Yeah that's not what Miller said... at all.

Have you watched the video or are you just making declarative statements about what you imagine he said?

When Trump took office it was under 5%   And how about during Trumps term?    It was at 3.5% pre-pandemic.

It actually just ticked up again from the previous month, and does anyone believe we're in a period of stability right now??

Its not time to increase immigration except for skilled labor.  Its amazing Im having this argument with now-former libertarians

Self own?  Its hilarious you think so highly of yourself on here and you cant even track a conversation for more than 5 min

Dude go read the last page or so. It wasnt me who was "assuming" what he said.  I assumed the woman misquoted/misframed his argument and I was right.

She couldve included a link to the video in her tweet but didnt.  A dead giveaway that she was making ish up.

It's not that I think highly of myself, it's that I think you're really, really, stupid. That doesn't mean I think I'm really smart. I'm just not a bumbling backwoods moron like you.
