He is a microcosm of the current Democrat Party. Woke politics dominate everything they do now. Everything. And people Fing hate it. Of course it gets air play. You have school boards covering up a serial rapist because of a mental illness that Democrats have turned into a political crusade. I have no idea what was said in the VA gov’s race but national Dems talk constantly about policies that effect the poor and lower middle class. Pre-k, child tax credits and paid family leave are 100% for that demo and are what Dems are arguing over right now in Congress. Again, you’re preaching to the choir about the fruitless stupidity of woke nonsense but that’s what gets the airtime despite the majority of their message and policy push going towards programs that benefit the poor and working class. Republicans have a cultural message that resonates with the poor but Dems have the policies that actually help them.

Republicans have a cultural message that resonates with the poor but Dems have the policies that actually help them. There's a few problems with this. 1. The Democrats have no ability to curb their condescending nature. Instead of selling their policies to the working class, they mock them for being idiots and not understanding. Now...they are idiots. That's why they are poor. But coming off as condescending d-heads doesn't get you votes. 2. Democrats fundamentally misunderstand a basic tenet of the older working class (and I mean working here, not the entitled millennial morons) -- they don't all just want free stuff from daddy government. They want to advance and believe that is was based on their own merit. So messages about the game being rigged -- those resonate. Messages about making rich people pay their fair share so they can simply get a check won't work. People don't want to be told they need assistance because they hear it as having to admit failure. 3. The woke stuff is just too prevalent and dominates the rest. Especially when you involve their kids. Now this is all changing with the current generation of losers that is coming up, but the voting base is still made up of enough people who don't want to be told they need government to help them because they failed in life. The Democrats are pressing too hard -- their socialist dream is still 10-20 years away.

For average Joes, the dollar has weakened against consumer products. When someone says "the dollar is tanking" or "a weak dollar" I'm going to take it as exchange rates. Comparing inflation over 1 year is problematic right now because the market - especially fuel - was tanked 12 mos ago. If we take inflation from Jan 2020 through now, we're at 6%. That works out to be something just north of 3% / year, given that we still have 60 days or so left in the year. While higher than the 2% or so we'd been averaging before, it's not nearly as attention grabbing as a 5.4% annual number. And the majority of the reason inflation is rising recently is because supply is not keeping pace with demand. While inflation is always a concern, if you're going to have inflation because demand for goods and services is outpacing supply that's not the worst way to have it - especially if there is some confidence that the supply chain issues will eventually work themselves out. Not all inflation can be tied to these supply/demand issues, but the bulk is. I get that the average joe feels squeezed, and it's a concern. But I also get a bit incredulous when I see my blue-collar friends and acquaintances posting "let's go brandon!" about gas prices when I know demand for their services right now is through the roof. They are turning away jobs and charging a premium for the jobs they are able to take, and I know their income growth YoY is greatly outpacing inflation. Yet they complain about $3 gas and are willing to peg that on Biden without giving any credit for their station improving. That's not to say that I think Biden can be fully credited for the economic recovery such as it is, but it's disingenuous to blame him for gas prices he has little control over while not recognizing that you're going to be bringing in 15-20% more in income this year.

My wife ended up talking to a neighbor whose sister is a pharmacist, so we booked appts with her for tomorrow and cancelled our ones for next week. Huge sense of relief when I got the first booking confirmation this morning. I checked CVS earlier and they were booked out until the 29th. Now we'll be able to get both shots in before the end of the month.

Phil Murphy's decriminalization of underage drinking in NJ has to be the dumbest move of them all. I don't see a lot of politicians mocking poor people (except on the right, when they deride US cities as sheet holes). Late night comedians? Sure, but their job is to mock people. 2. I get your point here but I think Trump disproved this one. He bragged about hand-outs even to the point of sending a signed letter along with his government check. People have absolutely no problem excepting any opportunity to get ahead, whether that help comes from the government or otherwise. It just has to be wrapped in the right social package. 3. Agree on this one. Like I've said, the woke sheet is always stupid.
