December 17, 20214 yr Yet another week with only a minor increase in ICU patients and no increases in COVID deaths in Sweden. Confirmed cases are going up but again that can be explained with a huge increase in testing and much of the testing increase is being driven by a rampant flu season here. So, plenty of media hype here but so far we just haven't seen the same level of problem as the rest of Scandinavia and much of Europe with Omicron. I'd say we need another three to four weeks to see if we are going to get another huge wave or if we've burnt thru so much earlier that we will only see a minor one.

Seems like we may be seeing a decoupling between the two with this variant, but still too early to tell. But if you mean impact on healthcare system capacity then it depends on what you're comparing it to. Lower than Delta? Maybe. Lower than the original strain? Doesn't seem like it so far. Note the log scale and also a reminder that hospitalizations and deaths are lagging indicators.
