my only concerns are my dad and mother-in-law who both live with us and have underlying conditions. they both just started with the symptoms.

I wish.  Nah, there was a delay pulling back from the gate and somehow in that time she had a full meltdown including arguing with another passenger.  I was too far in the back to hear everything that happened though.

You expect anyone to believe you actually got on a plane?

Well I hope they pull through fine as well. Odds are in their favor.

Generally checked my mask/COVID hot takes at the door before coming in here but I just want to say this once...

We need to give up on the mask and mandate debates. We need to suffer the consequences of our actions. Society as a whole is no longer able to reach consensus. Debate no longer serves as a way to reach a shared understanding but, rather, to further fuel differences of opinion and the discourse from it. And speaking of difference of opinions... things that we once knew to be factual and true, like science, have been tossed in the trash.

It's time we reap the whirlwind for our growing stupidity as a human species. I'd rather do it now with a virus with a tolerable mortality rate. Because at some point there's going to be another virus that comes along which is much deadlier. And if we haven't learned any hard lessons from this pandemic then we're going to have to deal with the same arguments from the same stupid people about who reject science and reality.

So, yes, let people die. Let people's own stupidity kill them. 60% of the population doing the hard work for the other 40% of the idiots is only hurting us. If they don't want to wear a mask, let them not wear masks. If they want to believe vaccines are the tools of a demonic cabal, let them be unvaccinated. If they want to treat a virus with eating horse paste or by drinking urine, we should not only let them but encourage them. We're not doing ourselves any favors by trying to support these people against their wills.

This is where I am too.  I'm just getting through a household of Covid and it sucked (for my wife anyway) but it's not anything we're able to prevent at this point.  If the vaxxed are going to get sick for a week or so but not cross the hospitalization threshold (for the most part), then let the chips fall on this.  I'm not on here cheering for the death of the unvaxxed but there's nothing normal people can do for these lunatics and we need to get past trying.  Continue to mandate the vaccine for soldiers (for obvious reasons) and let businesses do their own vaccine mandates if they like and aside from that, get out of the way.  It's pretty dark, but in the long run the collective intelligence of the world will only benefit.

I'm not cheering on the hurt that's caused by unvaxxed people dying.

But, from a "advocacy of the longevity of the human race" point of view I'm 100% for the these people being held accountable for their own actions. We need it to. Because the words of serious people don't penetrate their bubbles anymore. So let them die. Each one of them that eats it will bring us that little bit closer to normal.

Poor petty tyrants. The world hasn't bowed the knee to their Mengele mandates.

The counterpoint here is hospitals being overrun to the point of both wearing down personnel and, more concerning, denying care for people that need it for non-Covid related reasons.  But in that case, we should be publicly investing in hospitals in a way we never have before.

That goes to the "lessons learned" point. An anti-vaxxer isn't going to be convinced by words that he should get vaccinated. But they just might if they needs to go to the hospital for something else and can't get cared for. And, yeah, that hurts normal people too. But I'd rather deal with that headache now before a more serious pandemic hits that takes a higher toll.

Exactly. Let the fraction of a percent that coronavirus kills just die off (even less for omicron) and let's move on with our lives. Save the big guns like super-effective cloth masks and tyrannical vaccine mandates for a virus that isn't so mild.

Yeah, I think a lot of doctors and nurses have reached their breaking point because of the high stakes of people’s ignorance

It's just not that mild.  I mean, I was all on your mild train for a while but Omicron is hospitalizing and killing plenty of people.  And for the unvaxxed, it's 10x more than the vaxxed.  Now, it's clearly not as harsh as previous versions which is great, but it's not, by any definition mild.  But, like Mayan is saying, who cares.  Those are the consequences of stupid decisions and we'll be better off in the long run if we allow them to face the consequences of their actions.
