October 7, 20205 yr 10/4/20 COVID-19 Update from the Doc https://www.nothingbutthetruthmd.com/2020/10/10420-covid-19-update.html MYTHICAL MAGIC COVID TEST - RECKLESS In my opinion, the statement attributed to Dr. Jeff Mjaanes, Head Team Physician at Northwestern University was reckless. There is no clinical evidence to support it. Some in the Big 10 may be pinning their hopes on a mythical magic covid test that does not exist. It is this type of misinformation which has so confused our society and made containing this virus more difficult. The 18 members (and counting) of the NFL Titans team who have tested positive for covid over the past seven days (despite daily testing) provide irrefutable proof that such a test does not exist. The NFL with its billions of dollars, layers of top notch medical specialists, and technology assisted protocols could not prevent the occurrence of an outbreak. DID THEY NOT KNOW OF THE MAGIC TEST? The spread of covid through the team over seven days clearly demonstrates that we do not know who is infectious before they test positive. The time period from inoculation to a positive test, referred to as the incubation period, remains elusive. It is the rapid spread of the virus that is so vexing. The good news is that none of their opponents players (Vikings) have tested positive despite the fact that two starters for the Titans were probably infectious during the game. It would not surprise me if the game tapes aren't being reviewed to determine how often these potentially positive players came into very close contact with other players. Further proof of the fallacy of the magic test is provided by the spread of the disease through the WHITE HOUSE CIRCLE. These individuals are tested daily and have some of the finest clinicians in the land tending to their health. If such a test existed, I am certain it would have been in use and we would not be witness to the disease spread through the close circle of White House staffers, the President, and the First Lady! Litigators will probably have the last words on this issue of testing efficacy. Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Findings in Competitive Athletes Recovering From Covid Infection S. Rapal JAMA 9-11-20 Interestingly, this study was performed on athletes at Ohio State University, a member school of the Big 10. Twenty six competitive athletes at Ohio State University were evaluated after a RT-PCR confirmatory test for Covid-19. Mild symptoms were seen in 26.9% of the student athletes, the rest were asymptomatic. Fifteen percent of the athletes exhibited evidence, on Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging of signs consistent with myocarditis. Further evaluation utilizing Late Gadolinium Enhancement on 1.5 T scanner showed evidence consistent with previous myocardial injury in 38% of the athletes. The importance of these findings are not known at this time. It would also be helpful if a matched set of non-athletes were evaluated in the same manner to determine a baseline pathology. I would not be happy if one of my sons had these findings. They certainly add to the concerns generated by the virus, and for me, make it harder to understand the statement on Covid testing by medical personnel associated with the Big 10. Symptom Characterization and Outcomes of Sailors in Isolation After a Covid-19 Outbreak on a US Aircraft Carrier G. Alvardo, DO JAMA 10-1-20 I wrote about this outbreak in April when it was first reported. This report offers a detailed follow up of this outbreak in young healthy individuals. Of the 4085 naval personnel on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt at the time, 736 tested positive to Covid-19 utilizing RT-PCR with a median age of 25. These sailors were placed in isolation on the Naval Base at Guam from March 31st to April 15th. During the observation period 80.2% became symptomatic and 19.8% remained asymptomatic during the observation period. Six of the sailors were hospitalized and one died. The article offers a complete breakdown of the various signs and symptoms exhibited during the observation period. The morbidity and mortality in this young group is difficult to ignore and is probably about what we are seeing in College Football. The difference between the two groups being that the sailors were performing an essential service to this Country and the other group is playing a very non-essential game. CONVERSATIONS WITH DR. HOWARD BAUCHNER, Editor of JAMA Guest - Dr. Anthony Fauci 9-25-20 1. Major concerns - wearing masks, distancing and doing as much as possible outdoors as opposed to indoors, is very concerned that our baseline number of cases is 40,000 cases per day as we go into the colder weather 2. believes that monoclonals will be a therapeutic bridge until vaccines are available (President Trump has received monoclonal antibodies) 3. mutations of RNA viruses (such as corona) are common and there apparently has already been a mutation of SARS-CoV-2 making it more transmissible but not more lethal (as of yet) 4. believes that aerosolization plays (small droplets that may stay suspended for hours instead of falling to the ground in minutes in the space of six feet) "some" role in indoor transmission, but will not quantitate "some" 5. believes we will have a 100 million doses of vaccine by January and 700 million doses by April NUMBERS Deaths - 209,399 Hospital bed utilization Nine states have seen an increase in bed utilization, up from five last week, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania are all up. New York, Wisconsin, Connecticut and Iowa for the second week in a row. Weekly new cases Seven states again have an increased number of new weekly cases; Illinois for the third week in a row Michigan for the second week in a row New Jersey for the SIXTH week in a row (wonder if anyone is paying attention) New York for the third week in a row, this week up 60% Ohio up 20% over last week Wisconsin up for the third week in a row, up 20% this week Enjoy the day Live safer Be Well

October 7, 20205 yr Thank Jesus that COVID is just the flu, affects virtually nobody and went away magically with the warm weather. Whatever you do, don't let it dominate your life. Instead, spread it to all your friends so we get that herd mentality going.

No, I was suggesting that an article I read was worth posting. I can type. If I have wanted to say something really Trump level stupid, I might have said: Quote The president should abdicate his role and let the doctors run the country.

October 8, 20205 yr https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/cdc-director-calls-redfield-reveal-trump-administration-missteps/story?id=73480591 Former CDC director calls on Redfield to reveal Trump administration missteps in pandemic response Quote In the letter, Foege called on Redfield to go on record about how the Trump administration has hurt CDC's reputation. "Don't shy away from the fact that this has been an unacceptable toll on our country," Foege wrote. "It's is a slaughter and not just a political dispute. You don't want to be seen, in the future, as forsaking your role as servant to the public in order to become servant to a corrupt president," he wrote. Foege is a renowned epidemiologist who led the CDC under both Republican President Ronald Reagan and Democratic President Jimmy Carter. He's credited with leading the strategy that led to the successful eradication of smallpox in the 1970s. He told ABC News his frustration with the response has been building for a while but he sent the letter because he realized the White House cornonavirus response task force wasn't going to change course.
