Do you think a restaurant should be allowed to be in business if they store their meats at room temperature, and allow for raw meat to touch vegetables and fruits that don’t get cooked? I mean, people can decide for themselves if they want to take the risk of frequenting this restaurant, right?

We must all obey government without hesitation. It's for the greater good! Maybe he should follow the guidelines that all other OPEN restaurants are following. Did you stop to think he could put 6 other restaurants out of business by running a free for all when the others are following the rules. I think Jim Carrey said it best.

If I believe that restaurants should adhere to basic food sanitation requirements, I also must believe that the government should be able to shut them down if a virus exists.
December 29, 20204 yr Honestly gyms being open doesn’t bother me, as does restaurants. I saw some data awhile ago that the overwhelming majority of transmissions happen at social gatherings. People go hang out together at someone’s house and then boom everyone has it.

You’re the one who made the claim that people should be free to decide for themselves if they want to frequent a business or not. I’m just holding you to your word is all. The reality is that you clearly do believe there are things that the government can shut a business down for and that you don’t believe that everyone should be free to decide which business they want to frequent when it comes to those things. It’s just that COVID isn’t something that you agree with being able to shut a business down for. And that’s fine and your opinion, but that’s a lot different than what you previously said.

Here are my thoughts, but I am clearly no medical expert: 1. Restaurants -- what we were doing in LA over the summer seemed to work fine. Masks and face shields for employees, tables six feet apart, everyone wears a mask when not seated at a table with your party. Limit party sizes to 6-8 people. The wife and I felt totally safe going out to dinner since we were really only maskless around each other. Now, it is hard for restaurants in places like NYC to operate with the required distancing given the need to pack people in, but I really don't get the drive to close sit down dining with reasonable precautions. It's not like people are walking from table to table. 2. Gyms -- this one is more difficult, and luckily the home gym means I don't have to think much about it. My wife's best friend owns gyms and has been crushed by this. It's harder since you have people exhaling vigorously. Maybe using every other machine and mandating people wear masks while exercising would do the trick. I wouldn't go to a gym that allowed people to work out next to me without a mask. 3. Bars -- bars just can't be safe with COVID, full stop. No chance in hell I want to be at a bar with people congregating while getting intoxicated. 4. Other large gatherings (concerts, sporting events, etc.) -- best to just go with no attendance, or mandate masks and distancing.

That includes any classes, for instance the HIIT class I do normally has 20 and now it's reduced to 8. Masks are mandated as is wiping machines and weights down with disinfectant after using them. I go at 5 AM to lift weights and its pretty much dead, maybe 10 people between 5 and 6. Everyone follows the guidelines that I have seen. Oh and they check your temp on the way in.

This makes sense to me. The frustrating part is politicians out in CA are more interested in covering their butts by shutting everything down than coming up with sensible solutions like this. The sad part is this just makes people rebel even more, attend private gatherings, and spread the disease faster.

Gyms are now closed here, but when they were open mine was appointment only. with only 2 allowed in the weight section at a time (it's a smaller YMCA) and had to keep 12 feet apart at all time. hour slots with 15 minutes in between sessions for staff to wipe everything down. treadmills/bikes were something similar but a few more slots since you're stationary. Same for the pool, 1 per lane and appointment only. It was a good set up. Unfortunately we turned into a giant hot spot so they shut it back down.
