At work, yes.  And if you dealt with what I dealt with, you would be shocked its not daily.

The residential and commercial glazing industry is more like an adult day care.  These guys are a bunch of baby's.

OK, calm down, no need to have a meltdown.

I just read that that the new strain that cropped up in CO may actually be a second UK mutation. Neat.

A good write up of the original mutation and implications.

A big thing we have in our advantage is that the part of the spike protein that most of the antibodies bind to doesn't seem to have mutated much yet, so we'll see.  The spike protein relies on a very specific configuration in order to open cell membranes, so there's only so much mutation that can occur within it while still allowing the virus to infect cells which works in the vaccine's favor.

Thanks, I'll check out the article. My worry, though, would be that the spike protein will eventually—and at this rate, relatively quickly—mutate to a point where the vaccines are rendered ineffective or significantly less effective.

The spike protein has mutated slightly.  Just not the area that we believe most of the antibodies target.  It is worth monitoring closely absolutely, but most articles I've read have been optimistic about vaccine efficacy against mutated strains.

I read an article today that was one LinkedIn - I forget the source now....but  basically said the spikes have spikes now.  There was a patient that that was carrying 17 mutations of the virus.  They called the latest one B.1.1.7 for the 17th mutation.  I think it’m might be the guy in Colorado? The doctors were saying they have never seen anything like it and it wasn’t what they would expect to see.  It did not paint an optimistic picture of the vaccine efficacy.   They’re saying that the newest mutation is 70% more contagious and the patients are sicker and its hitting younger people harder as well.  I’m getting very worried that this vaccine will be an epic fail!

Yes I have read about the new UK strain potentially being more virulent due to a more "open" configuration, but let's see what the data shows before panicking.  The spike protein itself can mutate all it wants but it will depend on the receptor binding domain of the protein, which is the area that most of the antibodies are formed against.  I haven't read much about the CO strain but at least the UK strain seems to have left that area mostly untouched which is part of the reason for optimism.

Doesn't matter exactly what the data shows, it will be used by democrats to impose more strict measures. You heard it here first!

Masks now recommended in Sweden when traveling on buses and subways during rush hour for everyone over the age of 15. That’s the first recommendation for the general public to use masks.

I even wear a mask and so do my kids when we are outside. Too many people around here have it, and they will walk right up on you

We (my family) has worn them in certain situations where we were in places that didn’t easily allow for distancing. Mostly we’ve been able to avoid being near others.

You mean like wolf did today?  Oh wait, he lifted restrictions.
Typical Republican you are, making up lies and believing in them so much that you have yourself fooled.

You’ll see.

All of the recent ones:

indoor dining is allowed, groups of 25 or more inside allowed, gyms open, bars open, no 14 day quarantine when entering state, etc.

to clarify when I say lifted I mean the current restrictions will expire on Jan 4th as scheduled.

I looked her up. Says she is living back in her hometown. She’s 37 now.

Don’t worry though. There are plenty of young 20 somethings here that look just like that. Head on over and we can take a gander.
