January 31, 20214 yr Interesting. Keep wearing your masks, folks. Quote Massachusetts Democratic congressman, vaccinated for Covid-19, tests positive for virus Democratic Rep. Stephen Lynch of Massachusetts, who has been vaccinated for Covid-19, tested positive for the virus on Friday afternoon and remains asymptomatic, according to his spokeswoman. "This afternoon U.S. Representative Stephen F. Lynch received a positive test result for COVID-19 after a staff member in the Congressman's Boston office had tested positive earlier in the week," Lynch's spokeswoman Molly Rose Tarpey said in a statement Friday. The Massachusetts Democrat plans to isolate and will vote by proxy in Congress over the coming week, according to Tarpey. The congressman had received a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine and had tested negative for Covid-19 before attending President Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20, Tarpey said. But she did not specify when Lynch received each dose of the vaccine. Covid-19 vaccines prevent illness, but do not necessarily prevent infection. If someone tests positive and doesn't get sick, the vaccine has worked as intended. If someone tests positive within a few weeks of receiving the second dose, it may be because the vaccine hasn't yet fully kicked in. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says building immunity to Covid-19 "typically takes a few weeks" after vaccination. Lynch is the latest member of Congress to test positive for the virus in recent months, as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to rage across the country. A few members of Congress and more than three dozen Capitol Police officers tested positive for Covid-19 after the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol. Experts consider the riot, which broke out as Congress was certifying the 2020 presidential election results, a likely super spreader event. Three Democrats earlier this month said they tested positive for Covid-19 after sheltering in place that day with other members of Congress who chose not to wear masks.https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/30/politics/stephen-lynch-tests-positive-covid/index.html
January 31, 20214 yr Takes two weeks for full protection after the second dose. Curious to see when that second dose was administered.

Yeah, which is normal, but it also seems to confirm that you could potentially spread the virus even if you've been vaccinated.

Potentially, but if exposure was mere days after the second dose, it's likely antibody levels weren't high enough yet to provide sterilizing immunity. In any case, we'll know more soon enough now that millions of people will also be getting their second dose in the weeks to come.

A guy got out of his car and asked the cops why they closed the gate. The gate was empty. And it looked like most of the protesters were on the side of the road. Not saying it's right because I think anti vaxxers are the dregs of society, but the police could have easily defused the situation and opened the gate back up.
February 1, 20214 yr Meanwhile the Trump plan did not seem to include keeping track of millions of doses of vaccine.

February 1, 20214 yr 18 minutes ago, Gannan said: You must be so much fun to be around at cocktail parties Joe is a bit dramatic, but it's true that we really haven't even turned the corner yet. Fareed Zakaria had a good take on the global situation yesterday. Quote But first here's my take. We can all now see the outlines of a post-pandemic world. With vaccinations ramping up in the U.S. and Britain, with Israel and the UAE racing toward herd immunity, it's easy to damage that a return to normalcy is just on the horizon. The only question seems to be, how long will it take? But we might be seeing a false dawn. Despite the amazing progress we've made with vaccines, the truth is that our current trajectory virtually guarantees that we will never really defeat the coronavirus. It will stay alive and keep mutating and surging across the globe. Years from now, countries could be facing new outbreaks that will force hard choices between new lockdowns or new waves of disease and death. The basic problem is in how the vaccine is being distributed around the world, not based on where there is the most need, but the most money. The richest countries have paid for hundreds of millions of doses, often far in excess of what they actually need. Canada, for example, has preordered enough to cover its 38 million residents five times over. Meanwhile, Nigeria's 200 million people have not received a single dose of the vaccine. Rich countries make up 16 percent of the world's population. Yet they have secured nearly 60 percent of the world's vaccine supply. In a recent "Foreign Affairs" article, Thomas Bollyky and Chad Bown pointed out Australia, Canada and Japan have less than 1 percent of the world's coronavirus cases, but they have locked up more doses of potential vaccines than all of Latin America and the Caribbean, a region with more than 17 percent of global coronavirus cases. Even though several African countries have been used for vaccine trials, almost no Sub-Saharan nation has received vaccines in any significant quantity, while more than 40 million doses have already been administered in rich countries. And Duke University researchers say many developing countries will not be fully vaccinated until 2024, which means that the virus will have years to spread and mutate. In their annual letter Bill and Melinda Gates note that low and middle-income countries will be able to vaccinate only one out of every five people over the next year. Like it or not, we're all in this together, they say. The problem goes well beyond public health. The International Chamber of Commerce has released a study showing that this lopsided vaccination of the world will cause global economic losses between $1.5 trillion and $9 trillion, of which half could be borne by the richest countries in the world. Looking at data from 35 industries and 65 countries, the study concluded that the world economy is so interconnected that having large areas still suffering from COVID-19 would produce bottlenecks, frictions and loss of demand that would affect everyone everywhere. Another study estimates that rich countries would get back $5 in economic output for every dollar they invest in vaccines for the developing world. Despite these realities, vaccine nationalism is actually rising as slow supplies and bureaucratic delays in rich countries have caused politicians to demand speedy action for their populations. European nations are threatening to restrict exports of vaccines and to take legal action against AstraZeneca because of suspicions that it has prioritized delivering vaccines to Britain over E.U. companies, which, by the way, the company denies. Dozens of countries have also restricted exports of medical supplies, which will seriously hamper efforts to eradicate COVID-19 worldwide. https://www.cnn.com/videos/tv/2021/01/31/exp-gps-0131-fareeds-take.cnn

February 2, 20214 yr Pa is ranked 49th in vaccine administration. 1.9m doses distributed; 856,000 given. Roughly 44%. That’s Fing pathetic. Wolf is garbage.
