Meh, eradication was never realistic in the short, term. That doesn't mean we can't start to return to a semblance of normalcy. Some media articles drift towards sensationalism or paint outcomes in a binary fashion with their headlines. We don't need to eradicate it to go on vacations again, eat in restaurants, congregate without masks, etc. We just need to get vaccinated to do those things. I'm not fearful of a cat and mouse game with variant strains, our new vaccine platforms will keep up. The only thing that would temper my optimism long-term would be if this thing finds refuge in animal reservoirs. That would allow it to remain more undetected ave drastically increase the likelihood that mutations could result in even more dangerous variants than what we currently have.

You're right, I just saw the headline and couldn't help but think of our resident Debbie Downer, haha.

"The virus is also zoonotic, meaning it can jump back and forth between animals and humans. Even if we managed to eradicate SARS-CoV-2 in humans, animals could reintroduce a similar infection to our population — perhaps with an even deadlier mutation"

Yes, we already know this. See Denmark's mink infections. How many mink farms do you have near you? Now if it hits bovine, swine, or avian populations, then you might want to get Houston on the horn.

There seems to be more paths to disaster than not

Many paths with very low likelihood.

Conversely, the path to normalcy has few paths of high likelihood. I'll take the latter.

Not that I had any first hand info but dr Conley is the brother of someone I know And who I saw that that Saturday after trump flew out of the WH with corona. It’s no surprise to me the report today that his blood ox was below 80?  That’s serious. We watched that 1st presser and we knew it was serious even though she could have no contact with her own brother during this time.  None. They took his personal cell.  Maybe I’ll live long enough to meet him again when he’s retired.  He’s a Dr, not a politician. Navy.   I was sad to see him forced into that position.  Thankfully Trump recovered. They saved his life.

Confusing. I thought you still had to wear mask and be socially distant.

Someone help me please. We are getting reports in the UK that social distancing and restrictions are to remain in place until the autumn or even the end of the year! And that's with our vaccine programme going really well. What is going on! If the vaccine isn't the route out of this then what is! I am starting to get in to a dark head space again where there is no end in sight and this is the rest of our lives.

As we've discussed in here the timeline is getting longer and longer.  In a nutshell, it will take much longer to vaccinate the population then what we've originally been advertising.

As always, just remember that you need to stop complaining or looking into any details here.  Just wear your damn mask and STFU.

edit: Did I mention that it is "very easy" and that there is "nothing to discuss"?

Just feels like there's nothing to look forward to anymore.

Lucky you, I’m giving up trying to get appt. This is what I get to see, every try. Rite aid site doesn’t work past the select location page.

You are both 1a?  I have a few friends that got called but aren’t 1a. I’m waiting my turn, not even trying.

Cuomo is f-d.

All of his daily self praise early on was a bit too much for me and I always felt like he was the opposite end of trump...but not in a good way.

It's only confusing if you don't know that quarantine requirements are different from social distancing and mask restrictions. We also are starting to get data that confirms the suspicions of vaccines providing sterilizing immunity.

Cuomo is literally a comic book level super-villain and the left praised him like he was a god. @DEagle7

Haven't heard that. I could see this being the case if b1.351 was emerging there but to my knowledge it's not. Can you provide a link to the reports? Could be that there will be partial restrictions left in place for the portion of the population that remains unvaccinated. I know the whole "immunity passport" gets people on edge here, but it's one way to make both sides of the fence happy in situations like this.

Never forget, the cowardice of politicians is responsible for this.

Yeah.  Schmoopie got in because she works for a school and I got in for work reasons as well.

Update on the vaccine front, the 3rd mRNA candidate (this one from curevac) is now under a rolling review by the EU's equivalent of the FDA. Should help alleviate supply issues as more of these gain approval. Though after this one, I'm not sure if there are many other promising candidates. The other ones were either a bit further behind in trials or had questionable efficacy based on phase I data. We might be left with just these 5 or 6 for a while.

UPDATE 1-EU regulator begins real-time review of CureVac's COVID-19 vaccine

You do, but it seems that the risk of transmission is low enough that the CDC is judging that quarantine isn't necessary, but basic precautions should still be followed.

Maybe not, but you got super butthurt when I suggested sending covid patients into nursing homes was an awful idea. I believe you said they were uniquely suited to handle coronavirus. That turned out to be epically wrong, of course.

Anyway, Walsh brings up a good point here. There's a solid chance the ships were kept empty for political purposes. Yes, the implications are that Cuomo would rather kill the elderly than accept help from Trump for political purposes:

If we had real media, this would be a huge scandal. But, you know, Cuomo's a democrat, so instead of criticism, he wins an Emmy. lmfao

I believe that the Wolfe administration should be investigated in a very similar manner because of the insane amounts of deaths in nursing homes.  Or is my TDS showing?

Second most deaths in the US next to California, but with HALF the positive cases of CA.  You really showed Trump, Cuomo!  Great job!
