Governors and presidents are flawed figureheads who may not have a deep understanding of every policy position down the line, because much of that is delegated to staff whose full-time job is to generate detailed policy guidelines based on the guidance from the executive. Cuomo is still popular because unlike Trump he at was at least engaged with the press, demonstrated that he was doing everything he thought was necessary to lead NY through the pandemic, and didn't just sit back and throw his hands up. He didn't demonstrate that he was only concerned with how it impacted the stock market, he showed that he did give a crap about how this was impacting people. If you're too stupid to understand the difference I don't know what to tell you.

The policy also only made it so facilities couldn't use COVID itself as a means of denying admission. They could however still deny patients if they didn't have proper isolation facilities, medical staff, cardiopulmonary monitoring, etc. And plenty did. Cuomo is an idiot who deserves plenty of criticism for this and other things he did during COVID. And if he lied about the numbers the double F him. But the sensationalization acting like he forced COVID patients into meemaws retirement home is just ignorant.

February 12, 20214 yr I must have missed all the pages where everyone in here talked about how great Cuomo is and started passing out Cuomo hats and attaching Cuomo flags to their trucks. No one gives an F about Cuomo in here one way or the other. If he was involved in some big coverup of data to manipulate the public, then of course he should be penalized, just as any politician should.

The actual policy, when read with context and knowledge of how these facilities are classified, was not actually unreasonable. There are a lot of nursing home facilities that are basically like mini-hospitals, and can meet certain thresholds for treating acute conditions that occur in nursing homes. There are a lot that are not. The idea was that for facilities that had the ability and capacity, it made sense to use those facilities if local hospitals were overrun. The goal was never to throw a bunch of COVID patients locked in a room with grandma. The goal was to try and leverage the full capabilities of the healthcare system, which included beds in some nursing homes that would be a better place to treat COVID patients than some tent in a parking garage.
February 12, 20214 yr cuomo is similar to cohen in that it was entertaining to see him rip cheeto...but he's also a turd.

Cuomo was vehemently defended in here when he was first criticized for his nursing home death strategy. On the national stage, he was praised profusely when NY's numbers dramatically dropped and even wrote a book patting himself on the back. He won an Emmy lmfao. It's just too funny to see the left's covid hero taking it on the chin the way he is. But yeah, it's a huge story, and is rightly being discussed in the coronavirus thread.

Right. I'm not going to defend him either, but it's a hell of a lot better than some leader (The President) suggesting to inject bleach!!!!

It's just too funny to see the left's covid hero taking it on the chin the way he is. The nursing home strategy is actually debatable it seems from my point of view as a person with no medical experience. Most people I know who are on "the left" despise Cuomo and have for years. True that Big Dem party moderates like the guy. I just dont recall this reverence for Cuomo in here that it seems you are saying existed. I don't even remember him being praised profusely nationally, maybe you watch too much CNN kz.
February 12, 20214 yr Voters are much more forgiving of mistakes made along the way when someone is acting in good faith. Regardless of the autistic screeching of the resident morons, the perception of Cuomo (fair or otherwise) among most voters is that he was earnest in his attempts to manage the crisis. Trump, not so much. So yeah, Cuomo will get more of a pass. Trump won't. Who knew words had consequences?

Schools here in Knoxville have been open since August, parents had the option to chose home schooling or in person at the beginning of fall semester and spring semester.

February 12, 20214 yr Whatever you think about Cuomo, I think we can all agree that Biden is absolutely nailing it on vaccinations and reversing the complete failure of the Trump administration. https://apnews.com/article/vaccine-biden-600-million-doses-july-b7845a7d0f709199265d9243598b629e Quote President Joe Biden said Thursday that the U.S. will have enough supply of the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of the summer to inoculate 300 million Americans. Biden announced on Thursday that the U.S. had secured contractual commitments from Moderna and Pfizer to deliver the 600 million doses of vaccine by the end of July — more than a month earlier than initially anticipated. "We’re now on track to have enough supply for 300 million Americans by the end of July,” he announced. We were vaccinating 900K a day when Biden took over. Now we're up to 1.6 million/per day. And expect that to keep climbing. Masterclass.
February 12, 20214 yr Not hard, when it was clear Trump and administration didn't give a crap about COVID.
February 12, 20214 yr Would hate to imagine where we would still be if he won. 3rd world here we come
February 12, 20214 yr 1 hour ago, NOTW said: Everyone was worried that the kids would be careless. They are actually little rule followers (at least the younger ages). They self-police, my son said a friend of his wasn't allowed to play at recess because he accidentally touched someone and the other kids said you're not being socially distant. They are religious about wearing their masks. If we go somewhere my son puts his mask on in the house and wears it in the car. I say you don't have to wear it yet, but he likes it. Kids like wearing super hero costumes and masks and stuff so he has Spider-Man and dinosaur masks and he thinks it's fun anyway. We got my son his own Baby Yoda themed hand sanitizer bottles as well. He's good about using it. This is the world these young kids know right now. Same experience here. Early on my mother in law would say at least once a week how it breaks her heart to see kids wearing masks and how awful it is. Which I would then have to say basically what you said, that they dont mind it so much and it just becomes part of what they do when they see everyone else doing it. I told her how my youngest didn't want to wear a backpack on her first day of preschool until we got to the school and she saw all the other kids with theirs and all the different styles and themes of them. From then on, it was no big deal suddenly, and she never complained about wearing it again. We take things for granted because they are cultural to us (i.e. making kids lug around heavy backpacks) but when we see something that's not cultural, we tend to freak out and react to it negatively. Kids, not knowing any different, will trust their parents to help them navigate the world. If parents make a big stink about how awful is it having to wear a mask, then the kids will be less likely to wear it when they should. We've unfortunately experienced this first-hand with some of the neighbors. The parents who just suck it up and wear it to set a good example, magically have kids who wear it with no issues.

Yeah, it's kind of relevant when someone's feigning ignorance on the amount of praise he's gotten for the handling of the pandemic. They're literally giving him awards.
