Hopefully they do the same for the covid vaccine in Fall '22

Lot of factors involved there but we'll see.  If it's still prevalent and the vaccine has been approved for kids at that point then I imagine it would be but who knows.

An uptick in vaccination may be another factor. The CDC stated that as of Dec. 4, 189.4 million flu vaccine doses were distributed throughout the nation, the highest ever recorded during a single influenza season.

What was it the year before and a normal year?  Are we talking 5 million more or 80 million?

Edit: Found it. Looks like it went up a bit, but not a great amount. 15 million.  (I wonder what caused the big spike (and then drop) in 2010-2011).  So that factor is negligible when talking about the drop in flu this year, IMO.

Up until a few years ago I never got the flu shot.  This year I made a point since it was (rumored?) that it helps alleviate COVID symptoms if you caught it.

Spike in 2010 was from H1N1.

I agree that vaccinations aren't as much of a factor as masks and distancing. We all expected a very mild flu season this winter, wasn't exactly a surprise to anyone except Dr. Drew.

I know this is your shtick but until it's been proven to infect someone vaccinated with the pfizer or moderna vaccine, I'm not too concerned.

Reality is what it is, by the summer you will be just as realistic , you won't have much choice

Fam, I'm gonna be vaccinated by then, and 6 deep laying by the pool. Summer can't get here fast enough.

The current vaccine is going to be useless by then, you don't think in a few months more variants that elude the  vaccine will be around?

The difference here is Trump was the loser trying to reverse things, right now the virus is the winner

Joe Shades is gonna be sitting on the pool steps, in his black jeans and black shirt, telling a 4 year old about how many people die in accidental drownings every year.

If he was standing by the pool unsupervised I would :o

I love the accidental drownings mention.  I remember TEW bringing this up non stop during the gun control debate years ago on the old board.

Thank god my kid is now doing school from home due to Covid, don't have to worry about rogue swimming pools showing up at school trying to drown her.

Most likely because of the H1N1 swine flu outbreak in 2009.  Scared people into getting it the following year, then everyone went back to normal behavior the year after. Just a guess though.

Scientists and data say you're wrong. I know these days it's tempting to go with "rando Debbie downer from the internet" over actual scientists and the data, but I'm gonna go the traditional route here.

Stay out of the deep end, little dude.

I found an even better avatar for @Joe Shades 73.  Eeyore is kinda passe.  Marvin the paranid android from Hitchhiker's  is better methinks.

CDC data shows more than 1,100 cases of the highly contagious B.1.1.7 variant -- first detected in the UK -- have been reported in the US. The agency has previously warned the strain will see rapid growth in early 2021 and will likely become the predominant variant by March.
"I think we should be assuming that the next wave of case growth, to the extent that we have it, is going to be with B.1.1.7, and that's something that I think everybody has to be even more cautious about," Andy Slavitt, White House Covid-19 senior adviser, said on MSNBC on Monday. "It's nice to see the numbers of cases drop, but it could be misleading."

Yes, and there absolutely nothing in your article that says the vaccines aren't effective against new strains of the virus. Don't go all zuker on me and not even read the stuff you post.
