Oh, that's a relief. I thought you were talking about pounding beers.

Pounding hobos is more like it.

I hope I am premature with this post.  Everyone wants everything yesterday. Get it done.  Just stop. Sometimes you have to take a hit. It’s coming. Trust me.  We are not getting our elderly vaccinated.  Do they not matter?  Do we realize how many there are living in an independent or even assisted living still not getting vaccinated?  But you are?   Our society has isolated them.  I’m glad my parents are dead. Stop jumping ahead in line  because you know somebody and think you’re going to be safe. Guess what?   You’re not.  You are all going to get old and die of something anyway.  F covid!   Huge black mark in our history.

My brother in law is 45 and in perfect health. He drives a school bus part time. He was vaccinated. My 85 year old father recovering from a heart attack can’t get one. The states set the order in "the line” but the logic is a bit bizarre.

I get it.  We must keep moving. Service oriented stuff needs done.  On a covid perspective I trust we will get there.  I’m just not so  good on a personal level. Sorry.   I’m pissed, sad, and working through a lifetime of ish.  It sucks. Do I want to just give up or keep going?  I ask myself this every damn day.   The rules have changed in my old age and what I thought would be is not what it is.  Suck. Suck.  Suck.  And I’m going to wake up tomorrow and do it all over again.

Wow this is even worse than I thought, Zero chance restrictions get lifted, you know there will be stories how a kid got sick and that will be the excuse to keep restrictions for years

"COVID-19 vaccines for children older than 12 years may be authorized by late spring or early summer, but it may be late 2021 or 2022 before vaccines are authorized for those younger than 12, the doctors said."

the wife spent a couple hours online & on the phone and was able to get appointments for her parents & for my mother. you have to call around and/or check online at all the locations offering the vaccine...at least get put on their waiting lists. then they'll call you back to schedule an appt. idk..maybe it varies depending where you live.

Are you trying to get an appt? It took some time to keep refreshing but I was able to get my dad scheduled at a rite-aid about 40 min from his house.

They were all snatched up pretty quick, but I have seen some appts pop up as they get more doses or as people cancel. Give it a shot and see if you can find anything.

As long as vaccinations levels are high among teens and young-teens by end of the year, we'll be good.

They're right in that it's a numbers game, I just disagree that elementary age kids are gonna be the obstacle to herd immunity when they are the most compliant when it comes to wearing a mask and following social distancing guidelines. But yes, let's look at the numbers,  it's mid-Feb and we're already at 5% of the country fully vaccinated, and rollout is improving. Projected to have 400M doses by early August so supply should not be constrained. Vaccination compliance should tick up as more people hop on the bandwagon. Those on the fence now will be far less likely to be nervous once the vast majority of people they personally know also get on board.

Could there be hiccups? Of course. Variants could emerge or become predominant, but we already have early indications that the mRNA vaccines are effective against them. The UK is actually about to conduct challenge trials which, questionable ethical issues aside, could potentially provide some further insight on sterilizing immunity. I know you'll forever choose to focus on the negative and block out anything else. Just the way your brain is wired. My approach is more data-driven. I defer to the modeled projections that show a high likelihood of herd immunity far sooner than you imply, which is not necessarily always a precondition of downgrading a pandemic to an epidemic.

We believe that herd immunity in the United States is still most likely in third or fourth quarter 2021, but that the chance of delay until first quarter 2022 or beyond has increased (Exhibit 2). There is relatively little chance of achieving herd immunity before then. Even later herd immunity remains possible if other challenges arise, especially vaccine safety concerns or ambivalence to vaccination following a transition toward normalcy. This potential delay represents a call to action for policy makers, both in terms of the pace of the vaccine rollout and how new strains are managed.

No, I'm waiting my turn.  I was just sad that a few of my friends are striking out trying to help out their parents. One of whom is in a independent living facility and no one there has gotten one.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam says some providers accidentally administered the second dose of the Moderna vaccine as the first dose.

The Department of Health says a total of 200,000 second doses of the Moderna vaccine were given out as first doses, this is an issue Beam and the legislative task force have been working on resolving.

"As the Department of Health continues to review and improve the complex processes necessary to get COVID-19 vaccine from the manufacturers into the arms of Pennsylvanians as quickly as possible, we discovered some providers inadvertently administered the Moderna vaccine shipped to them intended as second doses, as first doses,” Acting Secretary Beam said. "We are taking immediate action to remedy the situation and are committed to ensuring that second doses are available.

I know that some of the Rite Aids\Walgreens\etc tend to open up daily appointments between 4-6 am.  If you hit that window you may be able to find something.  And try branching your search to more populated areas like West Chester.

I will pass this 4-6am tip to my friend who is in West Chester trying to get her Mom in.  Thanks

You mean you can't just hit the local in Toughkenamon?

Not exactly sure what this means. As far as I know, Moderna's dosing requirements are the same regardless if it's the first or second shot. I think all this means is that they let these people walk out without having scheduled their second shot. Should be easily correctable once they track everyone down and get them scheduled. Unless they mean they budgeted supply under the assumption they wouldn't need a second dose for all these people. In which case, yeah they're gonna have to start cancelling appts for anyone else who hasn't gotten their first dose yet.

There's certainly a lot of finger pointing. The states are passing the buck to the counties, and the counties are passing the buck to the vaccination sites. Its all a big cluster F for sure.

Between the incompetence and just the impossibility to get everyone vaccinated quickly, how can anyone see this thing ending in the next few years if ever. It is almost guaranteed they tell everyone no gatherings for thanksgiving and christmas this year

To be fair, if it spares your family from having to hear you go on for 4 hours about SIDs or the Armenian Genocide, is it maybe worth it?
