March 29, 20214 yr My boss is out today. I remember him saying he had an appt this morning and would probably work remote after. Receptionist says his boss said he called out sick. Which is it? Guess I'll know tomorrow if he's not here. Also heard him on the phone last week talking to someone that was ill. My co worker offered up nothing which is unlike him. OH well, still covid paranoid. I wasn't too close to him, or anyone for longer than 15 minutes. My boss is definitely one that would catch it. Lives in the city, refs for a league, and goes out drinking after.

She reported body aches, head ache, fatigue, and slight nausea. She passed out hard for a few hours after a rough morning but appears to be coming around already. She just ate a full dinner, so it seems like she's having the typical 36-hr. ordeal. Personally, I'm feeling fine after knocking back a whole bottle of sauvignon blanc. They expect me to work two days this week I've heard similar from others. After my first shot I was just really, really groggy.

That will skew the numbers considering the other two are also known to have a lower efficacy against it. 1 hour ago, we_gotta_believe said: Yea I know, I read through the analysis and I compared just the US trial data. It's not apples to apples, but it's enough for preferential bias. Gimme dat good ish, fam. I haven't been tracking everything, but I recently read that they have done some preliminary tests with the mRNA vaccines vs. the variants, and they're still proving to be pretty damn effective against it, with Pfizer doing slightly better than Moderna. I don't think they've done similar studies with the J&J yet, but there's this: Quote What do we know about each vaccine’s ability to protect against the variants? We know more about how the J&J vaccine protects against the coronavirus variants because the trials were conducted in South Africa and Brazil when the new variants had become prevalent. In South Africa, some 95 percent of circulating virus was the B.1.351 variant and in Brazil, 69 percent of the circulating virus was a P1/P2 variant at the time of the trial. Although the J&J vaccine appeared to be less effective against mild and moderate disease in these regions, it remained strongly protective against severe disease, hospitalizations and deaths. "We cannot say definitively that the difference in efficacy in these regions is due to more variants, but it’s an assumption,” said Gandhi. In the U.S., where the prevalence of variants was low, the overall efficacy of 72 percent likely was not affected by the variants, said Gandhi. ... Including mild and moderate disease, the overall efficacy was 66 percent, but varied across the regions: 72 percent in the U.S., 64 percent in South Africa, and 61 percent in Brazil. "Mild and moderate outcomes” could include a range of illness, said Gandhi, and we won’t know the details until the full trial results are published, but we do know that everyone recovered without medical intervention. https://www.ucsf.edu/news/2021/03/420071/how-effective-johnson-johnson-covid-19-vaccine-heres-what-you-should-know My takeaway is that the numbers will ultimately bear that while, as expected, all of the vaccines have lower efficacy against the variants, the differences in efficacy between them will largely remain the same in a proportional sense.

I haven't seen any of those games for like 25 years but I still always look at the brackets and follow the tourney every year. When I was a kid we'd watch the District 1 games in SE PA and up in Philly at the Palestra and then we'd go out your way and watch some of the state games in places like the Farm Show Arena and Hershey Arena. My dad loved it. You might be interested in picking up PCN’s streaming service. For what you get it’s dirt cheap, plus you get to watch all the PIAA championships. 15 hours ago, EaglesRocker97 said: GF was reportedly feeling like crap this morning after getting her second Pfizer shot yesterday afternoon (full disclosure: She's a baby). The nurse actually did tell her that young people seem to get hit harder than older for some reason. Case in point, my mom got the same dose from the same place but didn't have any side effects other than her arm being sore. My GF's typical bouts of illness track similarly, though, in that she seems to get knocked on her ass pretty hard but is pretty much on the mend within 24-36 hrs.

I'll look into it. One problem is that a lot of the local websites/service just do a simple geo block. I can't access the local county type sites and not even Max Preps gives me access anymore. At some point I'm going to need a proxy.

The CDC director getting weird and emotional on camera... the "I'm going to go off script" as she clearly reads directly from a script. It's all just very strange and totally unprofessional. Does anyone still actually care what the CDC is saying about the virus anyway? I think everyone has kind of moved on with their lives at this point.

C'mon, it's totally the CDC Director's job to come on camera and tell us her personal feelings
