Mostly 3 days out of commission and loss of taste and smell in some cases. I'd be more concerned if the ones with comorbidities didn't have the opportunity to get vaccinated. Kids will be fine. It doesn't seem to phase them. My 13 year old nephew had it and was fine after a day or two. Reminder that we still really don't fully understand the pathology and potential long term effects of anyone who has been infected and seemingly recovered. A loss of taste or smell means the virus was able to bind to ACE2 receptors in your olfactory nerve and enter your CNS, and recent studies of neurological issues from long-haulers indicate the virus can also cross the blood-brain barrier to find even more ACE2 receptors. It's a respiratory pathogen, but it can cause far-ranging systemic issues.

My daughter had an even slighter fever one day. As soon as they are done they’re getting vaccinated. Side note: last night my blind wife brushed her teeth with my daughter’s toothbrush by mistake. She (my wife) is fully vaccinated, so this will be a good test to see how effective the Pfizer vaccine is. Despite concerns early on, it actually doesn't survive on surfaces for very long. There was a study where researchers in Europe tried to culture live virus from samples of various contaminated surfaces and they repeatedly failed. That's why the whole "wipe down your groceries" routine was ridiculous. Now if the toothbrush had fresh saliva on it from minutes earlier that's a bit more plausible.

I would suspect most of whatever was on the toothbrush would be either rinsed out or swallowed. maybe some residual would remain, I dunno if there have been studies on blind wives using the wrong toothbrush
May 14, 20214 yr It seems to me like the virus could survive a bit longer than usual in a moist environment, like a toothbrush in a bathroom. IDK

The enzymes in the saliva are suspected of being able to denature the the surface proteins (including the spike protein) fairly quickly.

I fully support the right of private businesses (airlines, restaurants, etc.) to demand proof of vaccination. 2. Those who aren't vaccinated because they can't be (e.g., kids) can protect themselves with masks. The data shows us that vaccinated people who get COVID don't get sick enough to spread it. 3. Darwin wins again. What I'm saying is that some adults and teens are waiting on second doses, and the 12-15s are only now just getting the chance for a jab. The fair thing in my mind is to let these last groups have a fair shot to get vaxxed before letting everyone roam maskless. Once everyone has had a fair shot, then I fully agree with your position. In terms of incentivizing the hesitant, I don't think this will move the needle much. Those who were hesitant will probably just feel like now they can drop their mask, claim they are vaccinated, and resume normal life. If they get sick and die, I don't care, but I do think we should let those around them acquire immunity first before allowing the morons to expose them.

But virtually all have mild or no symptoms. For the fully vaccinated, CDC is only recommending those who have symptoms to be tested. Yeah, been seeing that. 24 minutes ago, JohnSnowsHair said: oh, your wife is blind. that explains a lot. So far so good.
May 14, 20214 yr If I'm being totally selfish here, I hope this new guidance moves Hawaii to open the F up. I really don't want to have to get TWO covid tests for my vacation.

She was talking about her personal feelings due to cases rising again. Now is one of those times when I have to share the truth, and I have to hope and trust you will listen. I'm going to pause here. I'm going to lose the script, and I'm going to reflect on the recurring feeling I have of impending doom," Walensky said, appearing to tear up. Then went on to say We have so much to look forward to, so much promise and potential of where we are and so much reason for hope. But right now, I'm scared," Walensky said. "I know what it's like as a physician to stand in that patient room — gowned, gloved, masked, shielded — and to be the last person to touch someone else's loved one, because they are not able to be there What we've seen over the last week or so is a steady rise of cases," Walensky said. "I know that travel is up, and I just worry that we will see the surges that we saw over the summer and over the winter again

The director of the CDC said she felt impending doom over coronavirus at the end of March, fast forward less the two months later and we're declaring victory. It's a total joke, much like almost everything our government does.

May 14, 20214 yr It kinda was a stupid tweet. I understand what she was trying to do, but it wasn't a good look, and (as much as it pains me to say it) Kz kind of does have a point here. If your director is going push the "impending doom line" going from that to "no masks" in 6 weeks sort of a "wtf" moment. Regardless of how you personally feel about it, it does give fodder to the opposition.

The tweet is correct in pointing out just how idiotic the CDC's messaging has been all along, and that's why people generally roll their eyes and do a dismissive wanking gesture when anyone brings them up now.
May 14, 20214 yr Repugs: "Having children wear masks is child abuse. Masks don't work anyway!" Also Repugs: "It's fine that we're dropping masks while most kids aren't vaccinated. The kids can just keep wearing masks to stay protected!"

If she is a worrier, not biggie to me. Just like I don't let Joe Shades personal feelings and worries impact me. And people generally do not roll their eyes. Trumptards and anti vaxers may do that, sane people who trust science and medicine do not.
